State Govt:-- Systematically  Destroying Tourism Potential of Uttara

Posted by: "sims_uttaranchal" sims_uttaranchal@yahoo.co.in   sims_uttaranchal

Sun Jun 8, 2008 8:42 pm (PDT)

The report of from Manoj Shukla and Himanshu is indeed shocking for
everyone in Uttarakhand. Is it not very Unfortunate for the people who
all look at our leaders with Trust and Hope believing that Bureaucrats
in charge of affairs are doing good work and would make our Uttarakhand
one of the Prime and most Sought-after Tourist Location on the World
Map..?

There is no doubt today that Slow and Sleepy attitude of the
Bureaucrats, Lack of Vision and Inefficiency of the powers that be in
charge of matters, Non -Professional very casual mind-set of officials
of the Tourism Department and an Overall Sluggish & Slow, much Below
the Average capability of the officials has made the matters worse,
coupled with the fact that we are one of the Most Corrupt State in India
!

What a shame on us that we all look at our leaders with Trust and Hope
believing that the state is in the hands of our own people and
development programs being pushed would help make people of Uttarakhand
live in better economic conditions for them. But just the opposite is
happening.

Like it or not; pattern is same as we have witnessed all across India.
Top Leaders and Bureucrats are seen in a hurry to sell the country to
vested interests and framed policies and programs that do not help our
people. Likewise, in our Uttarakhand also, slowly but certainly, a stage
is being reached when all this business of Privatization would be rolled
out like a B'day gift to secretly selected and most favored Companies
from elsewhere by our very Government and none of the Youth from
Uttarakhand would be involved in the Privatization of Tourism which
might is being negotiated and pushed by the Corrupt Government officials
to favor their selected Masters from the backdoors !

Still there may be some hope ! But where is the Youth of Uttarakhand,
Capable and willing to take matters in their own hands and make it
better..???.

When we adopt an attitude of Co-operative sharing and pool our telents
in spirit of One-ness Together-ness..we can really make this state a
wonderful place or for sure better than even Switzerland ! I very much
wish and believe that it is possible to retain entire Tourism Related
Business within the Uttarakhand State itself which can be profitably
managed and run by a large State-wide Tourism Co-operative drawing at
least one young member from each of our 18000 villages. !

I assure you that there would not be any lack and we can manifest such a
Vision for Uttarakhand and this may truly happen !

Loveful regards

Ashok Sharma

receiving great tourist flock. However, i tell you more than a 1/3
tourist is from Uttarakhand only. And majority from South India and
Kolkatta. It has two fold reason: One, the idea of pilgrimage and Two,
vacations. In recent times, the tourism overall is down in Uttarakhand.
I don't know about Himachal, but yes, here in Uttarakhand it is half
percent down than the previous year's figure. Some reasons that i was
told are - Exorbitant hike in tarrifs, Bad conditions of road and
transporation (read as connectivity) and overly priced food articles
that's too bad on taste and hygeine. Infact, you would agree that
percentage of foreign tourist even has decreased severely. The tourist
though willing to pay a little higher over for things but of course seek
comfort (for bedding), quality (of food) and smooth journey (through
swift roads). The fact seems very true that tourist are being
> cheated and so no tourist then returns back to these places and to the
places where they have encountered these petty thieves in the form of
shops, hotels and of course the transportation. The goverment has
demonstarted its incapability to provide security and comfort to the
tourist. Infact very much people of Uttarakhand have suffered these
conditions. I have been told by a Hotel owner in Ukhimath last month,
that this is season time and these 4 months (May-Aug) weÂ
receive heavy rush. He continued that i accomodated a Bengali family
in my kitchen and charged a 1000 Rs. all i had served them was
tea. This example and many e.gs like this display that this tourist
is facing problems of inconvenience, and being cheated. Infact i
was told by an Old couple from Kumaon region, that they were denied room
in a lodge and then later given to some other tourist. The reason, the
Uttarakhandis (locals), they don't pay as much a family from
Delhi could
> pay.  Recently in Nainital, i was told the tourist traffic
is much lesser this year than pervious ones due to same problems. No
tourist even wants to recommend these places to fellow tourists.
Same i have heard in Mukteshwar. GMVN/KMVN they have increased tariffs
upto 20 percent but have these improved upon the facilities that they
provide. NO! The goverment has no regulations and even if they have
its only on papers. So who'll listen to the tourist. Already the
Uttarakhand based Nigams are making losses. Look at their food quality
and serving timings. I have experienced this personally. The
situation is so worse that now most of PWD and Forrest Guest Houses have
started denying the tourist which they judge based on tourists
appearence and paying capablity (otherwise refuse on the terms that DM
permission is necessary). How many of us actually no that a common man
seek shelter at PWDs and Forrest houses if its available at a moderate
cost which
> goes to the state govt. and the caretaker has to give but...
> Â
> Tourism is in bad taste in Uttarakhand. The goverment is sleeping with
eyes open and ears closed. Tourist is suffering with a promise not to
return back. Common man has loss of employment. And above all,Â
nobody is bothered.... Well what for... until we have our stomachs
filled and morals that have rusted inside us.

shrine of Hemkunt Sahib or the Valley of Flowers.

situation every day," said Mr. Dwivedi.

Re: Uttarakhand bus operators not to raise fare !!

CM Shri Khanduriji has given an apt reply. I hope his concerns would be
evaluated by the Centre in right perspectives.

For every Litre of Petrol and Diesel, nearly Rs. 21 is levied as Central
Excise and other taxes. Why should not Central Government reduce much of
that part to give a breather to the states. ??

The issue has been politicised by political parties .centre has done the
needful. If Mr khanduri can not reduce taxes on both petrol and diesel, he
should at least reduce taxes on diesel. Above all, it is the poor
uttarakhandies who are suffering and not Mr Khanduri or for that matter any
central minister! Grow up guys and see the right angle. Petrol prices have
gone up not because of any action or inaction of the Govt. but by factors
beyond its power.
