Subject: FW: [Foundation SHURWAAT] Flood & Landslide in Uttaranchal - Join Hand
for Relief
Dear friends,
I feel contributing to Chief minister relief fund may not
result the utmost use of contributed fund. Instead of that, if we locate any
organisation, who is physically present in Uttarakhand flood effected area
and distributing the relief items to the needy peoples. In this regard what is
the view of foundation shurwaat. do they have this much of volunteers in Delhi,
who can manage this task. locating the most effected area, means of tranport
etc is req to be workout effectively.

Help for landslide and rain affected people of Uttarakhand

Dear friends,
On 27th September 2010, Foundation Shurwaat has taken initiative to seek suggestion of our members about how we can help our peoples who badly affected due to recent landslikes and cloundbrust rain in Uttarakhand. After 12 days, we got some suggestions from our members which are given below:
· To contribute in chief minister disaster relife fund
· Contributing to Chief minister relief fund may not result the utmost use of contributed fund as well as it involved corruption situation.
· Contact our relative in various parts of Uttaranchal to know the actual situation of relief work
· To locate any organisation, who is physically present in Uttarakhand flood effected area and distributing the relief items to the needy peoples.
After discussion with some contacts in hilly Uttarakhand as well as personal visit to Kotdwara, Rishikesh and Dehradun, I found that relief work in progress but not in a full pace. The relief work running in city area only. However, remote area is still untouch for relief work either from Government side or NGO side due to non-connectivity with mainland. I observed the following:
· Today's priority is to connect remote area to mainland by repairing of roads. Because due to non-connection of road, the remote areas people is badly affecting as there is no foodgrain as well as gas, kerocine oil, sugar and other small day to day items which is necessary for living.
· There is no NGO working in remote area. NGO based Dehradun, Haldwani, Almora, Kotdwara, Haridwar, Nainital are working in their base area and touch some area near their base. Even they are no in a position to give basic stuffs to the affected people.
· Even UNICEF is working with Government for help. But UNICEF has not touch Uttarakhand for relief work. However, they are doing relief work in Uttar Pradesh. They had supplied tarpaulin sheets, jerry cans, water purification tablets and mosquito nets, among other items, to more than 8,000 displaced families in Uttar Pradesh. Even they had not open specific donation for Uttarakhand relief work.
On the basis of the fact and to know the geographical situation of Uttarakhand, I personally suggest it is better to us to donate Chief Minister Relief Fund. All members are requested to donate in FS account for relief work. We may wait for one month i.e. 8th November 2010. Thereafter if some NGO like Art of Living is doing relif work in Uttaranchal, we may give consolidated donation to that NGO otherwise we may donate it to Chief Minister Relief Fund.
This is my personal view hence anybody is free to choose the way through he want to help landslide affected people of Uttarakhand.
Regards
Deepak Chaudhary
