Tribute to Legendary 'Girda'
Posted by: "Pushpender Gusain" psgusain2001@yahoo.co.in psgusain2001
Wed Sep 8, 2010 10:24 pm (PDT)
Dear Friends,
The September issue of the 'Yugwani', a well known and valued monthly published from Dehra Dun is dedicated to Girish Tiwari 'Girda', the legendary poet and cultural figure who breathed his last on August 22, 2010 at an age of 68.
The magazine contains six revealing articles about Girda by eminent cultural and literary personalities who have seen him from very close quarters and remained associated with Girda in various movements and creative activities. The editorial is also dedicated to Girda, it shows the stature Girda had attained in the psyche of Uttarakhandi 'jan manas' through his self less service and intellect.
Sh. Shekhar Pathak, the towering multi dimentional figure of Uttarakhand and who had 40 year long close association with 'Girda' reminisces about the life and various facets of Girda's personality in his well written piece, "Girda: Sabko Jorne Wala". He throws light about Girda's early years, initial struggle, literary life, service in song and drama division of Information and Broad casting Ministry, contribution to cultural arena and participation in various movements concerning the very survival of hill people and its economy. Similarly the contributions by Sh Shamsher Bisht, Rajiv Lochan Shah and Vyomesh Chandra Jugran draw attention towards the various facets of Girda's personality and his contribution to society.
I personally feel indebted to the contributors for enlightening about the various unknown work and characteristics of Girda.
Regards,
Pushpender Gusain

After reading this note from mr. Kukreti ji, what i understand is
that "pahadi kahi bhi rahe wo apni drink ki habit se sabko bata dete hain

We are pointing to people living in pahad for drinking habit but what about
who are living in cities, aren't they drinking?

Dear all,
There was initiation of MS Anita ji for alcohol consumption in Pahad and
members of various Uttarakhandi groups suggested many strategies. This is
good sign
I posted a Satire in this issue and now it is turning another discussion
The problem is not limited to hills but in cities too.
In Pardesh too, many bright guys lost progress opportunities in various
stages of professional life because of alcohol consumption .
Therefore, discussion is very essential in any forum and at all stages or
all the time

DEAR ALL
ALCOHOLISM IN PAHAD IS REALLY A ISSUE OF CONCERN. BUT HOW TO MAKE THEM UNDERSTAND. I THINK THERE ARE VERY FEW RE-HABLITATION CENTRES AND MOREOVER QUITE FAR AWAY FROM REMOTE VILLAGES. NOT EVEN NGOs TAKE INTEREST ABOUT THIS ISSUE. BECAUSE OF FEAR OR ?
90% PAHADI START THE ALCOHOL, TOBACCO AND OTHER DRUGS DURING THEIR VERY YOUNG AGE. AND PASSING THE TIME THEY BECOME ITS ADDICT.
YES THIS IS TRUE IN CITIES ALSO, PEOPLE CONSUME/ ADDICT OF ALCOHOL, BUT THE CONCERN, IN CITIES EARNINGS ARE VERY GOOD COMPARE TO LOCALS OF PAHAD. IN CITIES PEOPLE SPEND ATLEAST A SMALL OR HALF PORTION (25%) OF THEIR EARNINGS IN THIS BUT IN PAHAD THERE IS NO SUCH EARNING AND THIS ADDICTION NORMALLY RUNIED THE LIFE OF DEPENDENTS.
THIS IS THE ONLY REASON THE LIFE STANDARD OF PAHADIS IN VILLAGES ARE BPL. & THEY ARE STILL HAND TO MOUTH.
I KNOW THESE WORDS OF MINE MAY HURT MANY PAHADIS BUT THIS IS A HARD FACT WHICH WE MUST ACCEPT.
NOW THE QUESTION HOW TO OVERCOME FROM THIS ADDICTION, I REALLY FEEL HELPLESS IN THIS ISSUE. IF WE CONTRIBUTE MONEY FOR THIS CAUSE, I KNOW THIS WILL NOT GO IN RIGHT HANDS.

Dear all,
There was initiation of MS Anita ji for alcohol consumption in Pahad and members of various Uttarakhandi groups suggested many strategies. This is good sign
I posted a Satire in this issue and now it is turning another discussion
The problem is not limited to hills but in cities too.
In Pardesh too, many bright guys lost progress opportunities in various stages of professional life because of alcohol consumption .
Therefore, discussion is very essential in any forum and at all stages or all the time

Hi all,
After reading this note from mr. Kukreti ji, what i understand is that "pahadi kahi bhi rahe wo apni drink ki habit se sabko bata dete hain ki surya ast uttarakhandi mast chahe wo duniya ke kisi bhi kone mai rahe.
We are pointing to people living in pahad for drinking habit but what about who are living in cities, aren't they drinking?
Sorry if somebody hurt.

Loosing Sleep in Mumbai Over Alcohol Consumptions in Uttarakhand
Bhishma Kukreti
My Uttarakhandi friend, who stays in a skyscraper tower in Mumbai, has two worries. The first and foremost worry is to settle in America and another worry is development in rural Uttarakhand.
Whenever he gets free time, he called the renowned Uttarakhandi social workers of Mumbai and discuss with them in details about development in Uttarakhand. Nearly after tow years he got free time and he called ten current super stars in Uttarakhandi social circle to discuss an extremely worrying and very important issue .
Since, the meeting was just a discussion and there was no fear of responsibility or action for any social worker, every body reached in time sharp at 6PM at my friend's six thousand square feet duplex flat.
My friend who is real lover of rural Uttarakhand explained his agenda of the meet," I am too much worried about increasing alcohol consumptions in villages of my motherland."
The meeting ran for two hours but no body could talk seriously about how to stop alcohol consumption in rural Uttarakhand and how to bring to a halt," Sury Ast Uttarakhandi Mast"
At sharp 8PM, my Uttarakhand devotee friend declared," I think no body is able to offer us innovative idea for stopping alcohol consumption in Uttarakhand, Therefore, let us go to my bar"
Taking us to his latest bar , he informed," Famous 'Aerostudio Architect in Caba San Lucas, Mexico designed my bar and no body has this type of bar in India."
After taking seats and getting first glass of starting drink of 'SweetKiss Cocktail" , every social worker felt that new ideas are emerging in their minds for stopping alcohol consumption in Uttarakhand.
After finishing first peg within a minute and sipping second cocktail named 'Drunken Grandma' by mixing Tequila and Vodka' , the oldest social worker told," The government should stop providing quotas to ex-army men of Uttarakhand. These ex- army men are the biggest culprits in increasing the alcoholic consumption in villages"
Taking another fresh peg of cocktail named 'Absinthe Liquor' made from Bacardi, my Uttarakhandi aficionado rich friend said," I totally agree with you that ex-army people are one of the culprits making young people habitual of alcoholic consumption"
Gulping in one shot the third cocktail drink named 'Madman's First Love' made by mixing Marie Brizard Banana liquor with Cognac, another seasoned social worker advised," The state government should establish anti alcoholic squad in every village"
Relishing Coquito Bueno drink , my rich friend encouraged," You are absolutely right"
Guzzling a peg of Cranberry Cordial made by light rum, the young social worker recommended," I strongly advocate that teaching community should be given extra responsibility for counseling and preaching the rural community"
Getting extra pleasure from the Italian Limoncello peg, my affluent friend clapped and said," Oh! Ground breaking idea! From the young generation"
Finishing fourth peg of Sangria Liqueur Classic, lawyer by profession and legal advisor of all Uttarakhandi social organizations in Mumbai give his opinion, " There is a strong need of reformation in prohibition laws in Uttarakhand"
Savoring Bastardized Screwdriver peg, my moneyed friend commented " Definitely, I will also write a letter to all ministers in Uttarakhand for reforming prohibition laws immediately"
Like that the discussion ran for many hours till next morning .My extra prosperous friend concluded the meeting with sipping 'GoodKnitght Kiss' wine cocktail, "This was excellent intellectual discussion and our brothers sisters will definitely get good help from our ideas in stopping alcohol consumption in rural Uttarakhand"
Everybody applauded.
At the end of the meet , my friend asked me," Send the gist of this splendid discussion to all newspapers in Uttarakhand and copies to each M.L.A and M.P. of Uttarakhand."
I answered delightfully," Yesterday afternoon, I have already posted the gist of meeting to all newspapers in Uttarakhand and copies to all legislator."
Surprisingly , he asked," How come ?"
I explained," For decades, we Uttarakhandi social workers in Mumbai, invariably, in each cocktail party, discuss the matter of worries for increasing alcohol consumption and in each cocktail party, we discuss the same solutions to stop alcohol consumption in rural Uttarakhand"
He was more delighted," It means we are very serious about our motherland "
I supported him and said," Yes! We Uttarakhandis of Mumbai and other cities are always worried about Uttarakhand , specially , when we are drunk"

The point raised by Kukretiji, if I understand it, against the attitude of
Mumbaites or Delhites who want to solve the problem in their drawing rooms
over drinks discussing the same problems and making same suggestions evry
time thye meet. Alcohol Addiction is a problem for all rich or poor, in
hills or plains. It is a matter of discretion. People not engaged in full
time employment have lot of time to kill. People frustrated with thier life
find an escape rout in alcohol or drugs. The only solution is to engage them
in full time gainful employmnet na d councelling.
Alcohol consuption evrywhere is increasing and in itself alcohol is not bad.
Excess of everthing is bad.
