Namaskar Sathiyon,

Don't know about the politics or other reasons behind this, but one thought
comes to me - has it got anything to do with Bus Lobby in the region
(Haldwani or around) ?

Well, to clear my position - I am sitting in Bangalore & don't travel the
route Delhi-Haldwani (in whichver order); once in a while I go on
Delhi-Ramnagar-Delhi route and yes, that's on train !!

Similar was the situation in Bangalore sometime back (for more than 15 years
!!!), when trains on Mangalore-Bangalore track were stopped due to gauge
conversion. However long the distance be, it cannot take 15years to
complete!!
People have been accusing bus operators lobby for their clout for such a
slow pace of work.
It's just a thought !!!

Baki fir.
Vikas
PS: Hope our friends responding to Mr. Pant's mail won't make it about
Kumaun vs Garhwal & will stick to the main "theme" of the discussion.

Dear Group Members,

Namskar.

Inspired by the provoking ( I mean thought provoking ) post initiated by Arvind Da and agreed upon by Dangi Ji and Kamal Da, I thought to provoke my mind ( although some poeple say I'm mindless ;) ) and write something which may provoke others to write.

Let's start with stats:

Going from Delhi to Uttarakhand by Train:

Delhi to Dehradun - 7 trains, out of which 2 are Shatabdis. Any one who wants to visit Massourie / Haridwar/ Rishikesh can do it very well, and even return back on the same day. I love to take NZM AC spl on saturday night, reach Haridwar sunday morning at 4, take a dip, have mohanji ki puri aaloo, go to rishikesh, and then enough time to spend thre...

Delhi to Haldwani - only 2 trains, only one (Ranikhet Exp) has relevance for people who want to travel onwards to farther places, because the other, Sampark Kranti reaches at least by 2245 at Kathgodam, one has no option but to stay and plan journey next day.

Nearest clean reservation available:
to Dehradun - you would get a decent AC/ non Ac reservation within next 2-3 days

to Haldwani/Kathgodam -
3rd AC - not available even a single seat in 90 days !!!!!
Sleeper - 7th April
1st Ac on 29th March - only one seat.
2nd AC - 8th April - 2 seats

So , those are the stats, basis Indian Railways' website.

Now, the quetions , you great knowlegeable members have to brainstrom on:

1. Is this a result of "hoarding" by travel agents.
2. Though Dehradun is capital of our state ( the so called temporary capital, issue of permanent capital still lingering on since long in the babudome), we can not forget that as Dehradun for Garhwal, Haldwani for Kumaon. Still there are only 2 trains for Kumaon???
3. Railways has gifted UP with 10 new trains, is our state beurocracy sleeping??

Formal personal statement to end the mail " please forgive if this mail has hurt the statement of anybody. it has nothing to do with our regions, it is just to express why there is so signifcant difference when both the regions have similar commercial and social reasons"

Hi,,

Just to inform you,

There is one more train called puja special which leaves delhi in the morning somewhere around 5 and ends at lalkuan at about 10.30
It leaves lalkua at 3.30 and reaches delhi at around 9.30
this train is always empty.

I think the primary reason of not having as many trains for haldwani is that the traffic from delhi upto moradabad/rampur/barielly is very high. There are more then 10 trains from delhi to rampur every day. more then 20 for moradabad.

if you have observed, ranikhet is the only train which has a high percentage of people for haldwani . sampark kranti is more then 1/2 empty at rampur and more then 3/4 th empty at rudrapur. I think it is not viable at present to have more trains considering the passenger flow.

I guess what is required is a special quota for passenger upto haldwani/kathgodam.

Sorry Friends,

I am retracting my previous, subject line.
Mailing a small thought that had entered my mind , and the sort of response to that, means , that the group is fully alive in hearts.
Seeing no mail for a very long time ,just mafde me think aloud.
Getting information on the going ons in the home land, may not be of much relevance to many who are very near or can go there in short notice ,but for many of us who are far off due to their personal or professional commitments ,any information is always welcome.

Dear Himanshu(Dubai)

Just yesterday evening ,we had a Pahari holi gayan at my place .Hemant Pant,an upcoming promising singer, from Haldwani, enchanted everyone with his Gayiki.Incidentally, your parents too joined us,whom we met after 30 years since our Mukteshwar days.

Awaiting some more action in KG group.

Boss, all those who have mailed the group in reponse to my mail,I feel ,will help the group in some relevant mails so that we can take this group back to its glory.
I dont think any body is that busy that he cannot mail even one mail a fortnight.
Lets make it our duty.

Dear Upreti ji and Other Members,

You always seem to wake us up with your constructive criticism. Thanks for the same.

As a founder and sleeping moderator of  KG  group I am partially agreeing with your point.

Yes the kind of vibrating and thought provoking atmosphere we used to have earlier is surely missing BUT still I feel the KG group has lot of relevance left.

Being busy is one of the excuse but as I tend to believe we are lacking a person who can take the lead role. I used to play that role initially later on Anubhav and Dangi ji took the lead but after that we could not find the same passion among other members.

I would request YOU to take that role and guide us all. I hope with your experience and vision we would be able to rejuvenate the KG group. Please take that role to revive the old spirit.

Regards and Thanks

Kamal Karnatak

Hi! Friends,

I totally agree with Himanshu... we need to follow/revive/adopt our cultural and traditional Indian-ness atleast sometime... not only to pass the heritage to second generation but to make our-self also feel like carrying the haritage and feel of Indian-ness ...

On the same line here is UAE we formed a Uttaranchali forum and decided to wear Uttaranchali traditional dresses on 19th March on the occasion of "Holi Milan" at AbuDhabi Airport Garden. That's a way of knowing our diverse culture/dress and passing it to second generation.

I request our UAE based friends to join us for the same and lets cover all possible dresses from Uttaranchal on that day to know our culture & tell our culture....

Dear Friends,

It is good to see so many old stalwarts of this group sending emails today. I am still waiting for the comments from Ram Prasad ji, Angrez Baba (Dan) ji, Pangti sahab, KK Pandey ji, KC Pant ji and others .

I met Kiran Tiwari ji and Deepak Dhyani ji here. Dangi ji visited my house in Haldwani after we interacted here in this group, to meet my family. Thanks to this group. Therefore, instead of making several small decentralized groups let us channelize our enegry and effort in making one unified group.

Indian, anyone? This is a very thought provoking article I read today, which I felt like sharing with you. Kindly find the link below.

http://www.hindu. com/mag/2009/ 12/27/stories/ 2009122750290700 .htm

Due to our professional commitments many of us are not wearing our Indian attire every day. We are wearing Suits, Trousers and Shirts/T-shirts every day. Kurta Payjama is only for the special occassions. We are loosing our cultural distinctness, which makes us unique. May be we would like to adopt it during the weekends where we live by ourselves not by company policies.

With best regards,
