Greetings!
It is with great honor and pleasure that I invite you to join us on
Saturday, July 19th, 2008 for UANA's Annual convention at Harvard
University n Boston. Last year over 500 people from across North America
attended the convention in New Jersey.
Uttarakhand* Association of North America (UANA) brings together people
of Uttarakhand origin from all over North America. Our convention
promotes our mission, which is to:
* Promote awareness of Uttarakhandi ethnic identity and its cultural
and spiritual heritage. * Plan and host periodic conferences and
meetings to allow members to learn and share experiences for personal
and career development. * Organize seminars and symposia involving
Uttarakhandi youth, as well as youths of other Indian origin, with their
American counterparts to discuss the assimilation of the first and
second-generation immigrants within the American mainstream. *
Organize events to raise funds for the relief of distress and other
charitable causes. * Organize cultural events involving Uttarakhandi
and other Indian traditional and contemporary songs, drama and dance.
This years morning Seminar session will be held at Harvard University
and teh evening cultural session will be held at MIT

UANA Convention Organizing Committee 2008
* Uttarakhand (formerly known as Uttaranchal), is a state located in
the northern part of India. It became the 27th state of the Republic of
India on November 9, 2000. It borders Tibet to the north, Nepal to the
east, and the states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh (of which it
formed a part before 2000) in the west and south respectively.
** Nanda Devi Lok Jat is a Hindu pilgrimage stretching 280 km through
the Central Himalayas. Held in the months of August/September every 12
years, it starts in the middle Himalayas and traverses alpine meadows
finally ending in the Himalayan Tundra region. Nanda as a maternal
figure is intricately intertwined into the socio-cultural fabric of
Uttarakhand

Dear All,
Yesterday evening 4 member team (Mr. Deepak Chaudhary, Mr. Akhilesh Gusian, Mr. Suman Sardwal and Mr. Naresh) left for Kaligaad gram sabha. Except Mr. Naresh rest members will be back by Monday Morning. Mr. Naresh and our Village office employee Mr. Vinay Lakhera will try to finish remaining task with in one week. Team is due to complete following tasks:
G.I.C., Kulanikhal
1) General Awareness and Motivation Session
2) A Small Brief of most possible Professions for them.
3) Debate/Speech Competition
4) Quiz Competition
5) Folk Dance and Folk Song (Best Dance performer and Singer can be invited in Delhi for Our Mega Programme in November, 2008)
7) Display and Hand Over of Chart papers/Calender of Science, Home Science, Geography, Swing Machine and other home science stuff and sports goods.
8) Encouragement for Plantation in the school. Tell them about Birth Day Plant scheme and ask them who are ready to take care of plant and where they will plant the same.
9) Distribution of Books and Gifts to the Students
10) One to One discussion with Kids who has been given scholarship last year to check their progress and improvement.
11) One to One discussion with Kids who were not able to attend the interview in April for this year list.
12) One to one discussion with all 12th Pass Kids to know what they wanna do and what help they need.
13) Meeting with Principal and Teachers for progress.
14) Volleyball Match to see the progress.
15) Visit Library and to see the stock register.
16) GK and IQ test will be taken by Naresh Next Day.
Kaligaad Gram Sabha
1) Meeting in Kaligaad Talla
2) Meeting in Rauta/Rautakholi
3) Meeting in Kaligaad Malla
4) Meeting in Manjyadi
5) During the meeting Cooperative issues will be discussed, What they are doing and what is their future plan and team will tell again tell our plans.
6) Field visit for seeing plants of Soyabin, Geheth, Urad and other which farmers ve promised to grow.
7) One to one meeting with Cooperative Members to know their personal views and problems.
8) One to one meeting with all the families to know if they are interested in some self employment and what they need for that as we will purchase what ever they will make, and also to check How the migrated member of their family will come back.
9) Visit to Village School and Check progress report, attendance.
10) One to one talk with Nirashrit Pension beneficiaries and Young one will be discontinued for Pension and Self Employment will be offered to them with Guarantee of buying by us.
11) One to one talk with the people who are covered in Sarva Siksha Abhiyaan
12) Training Session of Employee (Vinay, and Two Teacher, Naresh) - How to work in future.
13) Handover of next two months course for personality development and English education to teacher
14) To check possibility of Plantation work under Birthday Plant
15) Room for Office in Village
16) Vinay shall take Subhash Nath for eye check Up.
17) Salaries will give given to employees.
18) If possible then Team will make small small clip of one to one discussion with Nirashrit Pensioner and clip of meeting with Cooperatives and school students.

As you know results of 10th and 12th Has been declared, Please find the details of all the kids who passed 10th or 12th this year. Come forward to support them and tell us which Kid you want to support. You can help is following manner:
1) Taking the responsibility to mentor the kid.
2) Taking responsibility of his further all education.
3) Taking responsibility of his books for next year.
4) Taking responsibility of his fee and other expanses.
5) Taking his Summer vacation course.
6) Taking his responsibility to get him in some job.
7) Taking responsibility to teach him English.

Hi! Dear all,
As you all know we employed Mr. Naresh for future Project Site Visits and implementation of the Ideas. Last time he visited with me and this month he visited alone. This visit was done on 7th June and he was there till 11th June and covered 3 Gram Sabha for various Tasks:
1) Met cooperative members and took estimation about crop to be grown by them. Please find the deatils in attached Sheet.
2) Collected 3 Soil samples. Members who have contact in some institute who can check the soil for us, please come forward and help us.
3) Visited fields to verify commitments.
4) Informed villagers about July visit of FS members. Interested members please give comfirmation in Polls section of group.
5) Visited another Gram Sabha and conducted a meeting for cooperative extension.
6) Visited Village personality development School & verified school progress and found +ve but teachers were asking for course. Members please help us in desigining Basic English and Personality development lessons.
7) Met 4 old women who are learning How to write and read Hindi , progress was ok.
8) Verified that Door has been constructed by villagers for village school with the fund we gave to them.
9) Distributed Oldies pensions and Teachers/Village Staff salaries.
10) Visited Medical case (Subhash Nath) and found that primary checkup of kid has not been conducted so recovered the 500 INR from the guy who was suppose to take kid for first checkup.
11) Visited Kaligaad Talla Village and collected Family Data from 26 Houses regarding Family members/edu/ income/where abouts/fieldsrelated things. For rest of families Sheets has been given to Village-Staff.
12) Informed teachers and Village staff to maintain Log books for daily work and progress, else salary will not be processed from Next Month.
Doing the same, he found problem in Stay and food. So we decided to rent a Room in Kaligaad tall Village and set up his temporary home and Office, where he can prepare food for himself and stay without any problem.
Please find few pages of his Village Visit Log book, to check his work.
