Hi! Atul,

Its indeed a gr8 effort. Sure Delhi based Team will take up from here. But I still Favors the idea of testing the soil in Delhi not in Uttaranchal because of Its easy for us to take soil from fields during our visits and bring it to Delhi as team and our office is in Delhi, so coordination in Delhi will be easy. Taking that soil to Uttaranchal based institute will add cost, time and efforts.

Dear Foundation Members,

Here is a another example of contribution even from distance, Mr. Atul is in France and from there he found and coordinated with a institute which can test soil sample we collected during recent visit. Hope other will learn....

Now we need your support as we are not aware which tests are required in soil testing and which test would give us what.... so please if someone from Agriculture background can help us in identifying the required tests and their benefits... as a Raw person our requirement is to know what all we can grow in that soil and follow which pattern with what productivity level.... so that we can plan profitable farming with exact calculation for long term....

Hi All,

Though i am still in the process of taking foundation membership, I would like to know if i can do something in this. I am basically an Agriculture Engineer but moved to IT industry hence may not be an expert in this field anymore. I have contacted some of my friends  who r in Agri reasearch field to have some more details on type on test required.
As per my knowledge, each and evry test mentioned below is important as each element is important for diff type of crops. Based on the test results soil can be classified under a specific class or type. We can then easily find out which crops can give maximum yield in such type of soil.
I dont think we need anybody with soil sciences background to go ahead in this. Anybody can straight away visit the IARI at new delhi and get the tests done. Its like getting Blood test done at pathology.
I would like to know when we are planning to conduct these tests.
Pls let me know if i can be of any help, I can visit IARI at Delhi with any team member if required.I m presently based at Gurgaon but expecting to travel for a long term assignment by this monthend.
Meanwhile I'll try to find out some contact in the institute.

With Best Regards
Karan

Hi all memebers
it really a great idea which help we can do something regarding
Maximum yield in diff type of soil which is found in uttaranchal, even
i,m in touch with my some friends who are speciallising in this
field, even we need help of the people who are implementing this
process nd who have been gone through some problems, we need to take
suggestion of the local ppl who are implementing it in regular life,
we have to study the problems,nd find out the sollution haw to get
maximum yield,
just for example - one of my friend uncle having so much land in
uttaranchal itz between pauri and almora, its name is deghat, nobody
is useing that land, one One university is expetimenting with that
land by fish farming, they are doing extreemly good dere,
previously that land was nt in use,

even many things we don,t know abt that area we can only identify
with the help of Old local pple from dere,

as u all know abt kimode,
it is an medicine which is usefull in making eyedrops, many guys
exporting it illegally from diiffent areas of uttaranchal, so why we
can,t do it officially/ legally

i know many pple who are working with this, if anybody want
information please contact this id

Mr naveen joshi - naveen_bharat@yahoo.com

from a long time i,m nt in touch with this guys, previosuly he was
working in delhi as a teachor, naw he is lecthror in deghat,a nice
place between paurigarwal nd almora

i know one more name if anybody can contact him from delhi or from
uttaranchal he can guide or introduce u the right contact

Girish joshi - +919411056470 lect. in garhwal naw

his one of uncle Dr Gopal joshi, he is having very good knowledge of
herbs

so please try to contact these guys those who would be more fruitful
for us

u can never imagine many proffessional Dr are still staying in
uttaranchal instead of working or making lot of mony & helping to
their community

he is one of the great example of this -

so guys give ur inputs we have diamond in uttaranchal just we need to
search it

so please contact Mr girish get address of this Doctor he will help u

u can give my reffrence to mr girish still i,m in search of more
pple who are hiding their skills & we need great help of such people
get to know more information abt these all things

regards
chandresh joshi

Hi!

It is indeed a laudable effort on part of the Foundation SHURWAAT. It would be appropriate once the sale catches up to spread the collection of pahadi material like fresh vegetables & fruits (eg French beans and Gaderi and Karadi Kakod the type we dont get in plains), and Gauhad, Bhatt etc from all over Kumaon & Garhwal and sell it for NRUKs outside Uttarakhand. We have to depend on relatives and friends to bring us supplies of all these materials. Herbs like Jamboo have become arare commodity. Thus it is really creditable to plan such activites. We shud try to motivate our bretheren in plains to agree for cooperative shops at various centres like Lucknow, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai etc. Thru the site of Shurwaat and other forums we can give a wide publicity abt the location/contact numbers of the shops. It wud be further enterprise for the shopkeepers to arrange home delivery on cost to cost basis. The shops can apart fr selling these stuff shud also stock pahadi song casettes/CDs, various pattas used in Pujas, yagyopavit etc. All these have become almost exticnt. We shud revive it.

Best luck.
Vijay

lots of ideas over internet with you guys, did lots of visit, tried to
implement lots of ideas there, some got success results and some
didn't even click, we learned from mistakes and tried to overcome them
with few new ideas and innovation and Now in one Year we are through
with our structure and Master Plan. Please find the brief details:

interacted with Kids and found that they are too low in confidence and
information about future possibilities. So we decided to do that in

empowerment. And this will be revenue generator for other social well
fare overhead. When full functional then co-operative earning will be
used for social welfare activities and FS fund will be used in new
areas. During our visits we studied their Land, Agri Patterns,
Marketing and found that they were more into cash crops and not able
to market their stuff properly due to far markets, no transportation
and less awareness on marketing. We decided to form cooperative and
plan their agriculture on Syara, Ukhad and Sgwada as per market
demand. We found local native stuff is required among local
uttaranchali migrants in Delhi , Mumbai and Lucknow where they are 8
Mn total. So if Farmers go for native stuff thru collective farming
then bulk quantities can be marketed to These cities in Low cost and a
effective supply chain with less dealers can make cost effective
supplies to these
> cities. For the same we formed cooperative, purchased 22 products
and participated in Trade fair to study Market… 10000 Foot falls at
our stall.. 1350 were interested to buy… 87% interested in Gaith… 84%
interested in Madwa, 78% in Bhatt and 73% sukse… means as per our
calculation 60000 Tons of stuff will be required per year among the
Uttaranchali Migrants… so in that process for 16000 Uttaranchali
village we will opening 1000 Cooperatives in whole uttaranchal and
will be their crop planner, harvesting planner, new methods consultant
as well as marketing front-end. First cooperative has been formed with
3 Villages Kaligaad Talla, Rauta and Rautakholi… 25 Farmers signed and
3 Tons of grains and stuff are expected in Nov with our gurantee to
them if crop fails then FS will provide compensation. 6 more villages
will be joining this cooperative in Oct-Nov and we are expecting 12
Tons of Grains Next April. We will go for Processed food,
> Fruits/Vegetables, Juices and Herbs in next phase.
> 4) Micro Financing of Self employment: Without interests loans
will be given to the guys who wanna start small scale business in
village itself and they have to return the amount is small
installment. Till now no success but we have plan to take Knitting /
Sewing / Processed food trainers with us during our visit and give
training to females. After then each one of them will be given
equipments and we will market their production. Same industry will be
part of Village Co-operative.
> 5) Local Tourism: This is another way to get economic
empowerment. Uttaranchal Tourism is already promoted by UA govt. but
same is not inline with development of locals and passing the benefit
of locals as all investor are not local and they take benefit of that
tourism. We Plan to make one tourism pkg in each location where we
will launch the project… Villagers will be trained to take care of
Tourist… and they will convert their houses in low cost temp guest
houses… each set will have tracking, fishing, climbing, Camp Stay,
Site visits, Jungle stay, Local food as well as other foods and
Saraya/Jhumelo/ MasuBaaj Show….. First such track has been identified,
Team has been prepared with 6 guys to take care of tourist but waiting
for 1st booking. Each booking will be done in 5K INR per pax for 7 Day
6 Night and will pass 1.5K INR benefit to Villagers per Pax.
> 6) Business opportunities for members: We will have following
business opportunities to offer first to our members else to any
investors:
> a. 105 retails stores need to be opened in Delhi , Mumbai and
Lucknow .
> b. Transport required to ship stuff from cooperative to Stores.
> c. Cold Storages near by co-operative locations.
> d. Tour agents who can provide us booking for our tour pkgs.
> e. Printers who can print our stationery/pamphlet s/banners/
DisplayBoards.
> f. Herbs dealers who can buy herbs produced by cooperatives.
> g. Processed food R&D
> 7) Personality development/ Moral Education School in Villages:
We are not Running that school as normal school.... we wanna teach
kids those portions which they are not getting in their
regular school... Like Practical and Spoken English through Poems and
usual words/sentences. ... Calculation thru nice stories and Quiz...
Moral edu to tell them what's good and whats bad since childhood...
Games to improve personality and analytical power.... and same can't
be found in any one book.. We need to design this course keeping kids
mentality in mind.. One such school we already started in Kaligaad
Talla Village , teacher has been appointed from Local Village itself
and paid monthly by us. Course designing is still going on.
> 8) Nirashrit Pension and Help Program: This is typical NGO type
program has following activities:
> a. Monthly Pension to old guys( above 60) who don't ve anyone
to look after them, same guys can be adopted by any member for pension.
> b. If any Org want to distribute Blankets of household stuff in
rural area then we extend our village network to them.
> c. If anyone want to go for Med Camp in rural area then we
extend our village network to them.
> d. If any one want to donate money to any poor family for their
Girls marriage then we provide contacts from our village network with
verification.
> 9) Oldies Education Program: we appointed one Teacher in each
village to teach oldies and we give salary to them along with bonus if
one oldies start reading.
> 10) Birth Day Plant: At few places our Hills are without Trees…..
to stop them from more degradation and to preserve Watar/Soil we need
to plant Trees…. "Banjh" / "Akhroot" tree would be the good for this
Cause…. So when ever anyone has his BDay and wanna plant few trees…
He/She may give the cost for Trees and Plantation …. And Some Yearly
amount to Students for watering and taking care of those Tree… we will
assign one kid from the village or School to plant trees and take care
of them… he/she will send you yearly report about those trees… and due
to all activity will be at common place so when ever we will visit the
place we will bring snaps for u…
> 11) Hire and get the thing done: This is our learning, earlier we
tried to perform all task thru volunteers but didn't get success. Now
what ever task comes to us, we try to do the same with Volunteer, if
not getting volunteer or he is delaying the result… we go for "hire
and get the things done" model. Where we already employed one Guy for
Delhi Office and monthly visits, second guy in Village for monitoring
and collecting inputs. Same way if not getting any stuff thru
donation then we will purchase that, if any service is required like
translation or training den we can go for paid model in place of
waiting for volunteer. Actually our idea is to get the things done at
any cost, we can't delay the project due to low or no resources.
> 12) Replication of Above all: This is the Man Key of the Project,
we are currently doing the project is one Gram Shabha and target is to
cover whole Uttaranchal. So we will go for replication model. Actually
we will do all experiment in hardest possible location and den
implement the same in other location once proved success. We will go
by following approach:
> a. First Phase we will add more villages to this Cooperative
bcoz they can c example infront of them
> b. Then will launch second project in Kumaun region.
> c. We will launch 11 more projects in each District with
different project managers for each district.
> d. Now second set of 13 co-operative (one more in each
district) will be open in very near location to existing cooperative.
As that will work as example for them and we would need to put less
efforts and resources.
> e. Similarly next set of cooperatives/ projects will be launched.
>
> Hope now new and old members would have got clear picture about
Project SHURWAAT… Your comments and suggestions are most welcome.
