Dear Abhijeet,

Why do you want to do MBA? This should be the first question you must
answer. And to yourself too? Because just an MBA degree won't help much
until you work out on your knowledge increment and personality. However, i
would suggest you to consider AIMA and IMT Ghaziabad for an MBA option.

See their websites for Info...

Dear B.S.Rawat Ji.

I would like to congratulate you for organising the pravasi uttarakhandis living in different parts of the country. The unity among the pravasi as well as aapravasi uttarakhandis has got paamount importance as unity is the demand of the hour.Unfortunately, wherever we tries to organise ourself some disgruntled elements comes forward and starts damaging the unity work. Some of our people have developed the bad habit of legpulling of fellow people, which is taking us towards selfdestruction. The time has come when enthusiastic young and old community people should be given a helping hand and this could only help us in taking our people towards progress and prosparity.
Extending all the best wishes for this holy work taken by Mr.B.S.Rawat and others,I am closing this letter.

Delayed speech

Respected Members,
I have a three and half year old son. He speaks very few words. Since childhood, his development was slow. At 15 months he used to crawl and by 2 years he has all teeth. Now I am very disturbed as most children of his age are speaking fluently.

I have already shown my son to paediatric doctor and as per various reports, the Doctor said child is normal and Doctor said that some child speaks late by 5-6 years. He has referred to speech therapist.

I have also shown my child to speech therapist. According to him, the child doesnt require speech therapist. He said my son is hyper active. According to him, this problem is known as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder . His tongue, hearing etc. is absolutely ok.

He suggested to modify our behaviour towards son. According to speech therapist, he emphasised for eye to eye contact/concentration and encouraging child to speak a lot.

If any one of you have any suggestion, please write me at my email id: mkkandpal@yahoo.co.uk

Respected Sir,

I don't know whether this will help and whether I am the right person to
give you advice because I am not mature enough(24 years old). But I want to
share my experience with you. Because I showed the same symptoms as you've
told. But the difference is I started talking at 3 and schooling around 5. I
was also hyper active though. But from 1st to 10 I was topper of my class. I
secured 97% in maths in 12th. After 12th I did engineering and currently
working in Bangalore. I am telling you all this to ensure that such symptoms
does not signify anything regarding what your child will turn in to. So I
think the doctors are right that everything is OK. But you'll have to take
care of your child as in my case my parents then gave me special attention.

First, my father started me teaching words by himself. In the same time
he also encouraged me to write in vicinity of my brothers. So my education
started by drawing irregular line on copy. And he also started teaching me
drawing patterns on papers. He the gave those patters a shape which later I
realized were alphabets. Although most of my relative thought I'll not be
good at studies but with my parents constant help and God's grace I proved
all of them wrong.:)...

So don't worry. Give your child as much time as you can and keep
consulting doctors. Because only they can tell what actually is going on.:)

Thanks and regards,
Atul Rawat

Children in Uttarakhand Village Work in Cannabis Fields..Reality Che

Posted by: "K.S. RAWAT" sooni_ksr00@hotmail.com

Sun Jun 29, 2008 11:20 pm (PDT)

In a shocking display of indifference by the authorities towards child labour, small children extracting contraband from 'bhang' (cannabis) leaves in the fields is a common sight in Matli Village in Uttarakhand.

Most of the children of Matli, many of them around ten years old, instead of being at school, are seen around cannabis fields extracting contraband for a meager amount to supplement paltry incomes of their poor families. The extraction from the leaves of the cannabis plant is smoked, chewed, eaten, or infused and drunk to obtain mild euphoria. "We squeeze bhang (cannabis) leaves and sell it. Most of the people buy it from us. We earn around 30-40 rupees in the process," said Anil, a child involved in the process of squeezing bhang leaves. Consequently, these children have not merely become child labourers but are involved in the drugs trade totally oblivious of the consequences. Shockingly, all this is happening with the willful consent and connivance of their parents who say that poverty and lack of employment opportunities in the area is the reason for sending their children for work in cannabis fields. "They go to study at school sometimes, and on other occasions they rub bhang (cannabis) and sell it off for around 10-20 rupees. We don't have any other source of employment. So, this is the way we earn our living," said Meera, mother of a child labour.

The Central and State Governments are deeply committed to universalisation of elementary education of satisfactory quality by 2010. But places like Matli seem to have to do nothing with it. While social activists partly hold the poverty responsible for it, they allege the lack of attention by the administration as the major cause for the children being involved in such a trade. "The children of the Sampera community are into this bhang (cannabis laeves) squeezing activity and this is how they earn their living. There are talks of the "education for all' scheme and most of the children here should be studying. However, these kids have nothing to do with school. They earn their living through selling bhang. They don't even get proper meals," said Himla Devi, a social activist. On being quizzed about the state of affairs, the authorities in their usual non-committal stand said that they would look into the matter. Statistics reveal that India has 17 million child labourers, the highest in the world. Over half of the working children (54 per cent) are in agriculture, and most others are employed either in construction (15.5 per cent) or in household work (18 per cent). About five per cent are in manufacturing jobs, and the remainder (about 8 per cent) are scattered across other forms of employment.

"Locals" angry at Agarwal for anti-dam fast?

Posted by: "Mrs. D Patwal" mrspatwal@yahoo.co.in   mrspatwal

Mon Jun 30, 2008 12:41 am (PDT)

Dehra Dun, June 22
Noted environmentalist G.D. Agarwal, who has been on a fast unto death since June 13 on the banks of Bhagirathi river at Uttarkashi, faced the ire of local residents forcing him to shift to the safety of a guesthouse last evening.

Local leaders of Uttarkashi belonging to all political parties today came out openly against the fast undertaken by Agarwal and did not allowed anti-dam activists to hold their proposed meeting to be addressed by Rajinder Singh also known as water man.

In a protest against the fast by Agarwal, locals also took out his funeral procession. The locals held a meeting at the same venue where Rajinder Singh was to address his supporters from all over the country and condemned outsiders for stalling the states development in the name of environment and religion.

The Congress legislator from Yamunotri, Kedar Singh Rawat, who led the locals, alleged that the fast undertaken by Agarwal was against the development of Uttarakhand and would harm local people.

It was all politically motivated. Agarwal should have initiated such a move at Kanpur to clean Ganga where he has taught all his life, he charged.

The locals tore the tents where Agarwal was sitting, forcing the police and the district administration to shift him to the safety of a local guesthouse. Agarwal left for New Delhi today, where he proposed to continue his fast.

He had demanded that there should not be any hydro-electric projects on river Ganga between Gangotri, the origin of the river, and Uttarkashi, a distance of 150 km. His fast was supported by large number of environmentalists, social and political activists.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad and saints belonging to the Sangh Parivar at its Marg Darshak meeting held at Hardwar on June 15 and 16 also extended support to the cause of Ganga and put pressure on the BJP state government to shelve the 480 MW Pala Maneri and 600 MW Bhairon Ghati power projects.

Agarwal had announced that he would continue his fast in New Delhi from June 23 to put pressure on the Union government to abandon Lohari Nagpala project being built by National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), a central government undertaking.

Uttarakhand Congress had termed the agitation by Agarwal as a political gimmick by Sangh Parivar to rake up the issue of Ganga before 2009 Lok Sabha elections. If the Sangh Parivar saints are sincere towards Ganga, they should as a first step stop throwing the sewerage of their ashrams at Rishikesh and Hardwar into Ganga, Suryakant Dhasmana, a senior Congress leader said.

Activists against dams on Ganga forced to wind up protest(Lead)
June 22nd, 2008 - 12:47 am ICT by IANS - Email This Post
Dehradun, June 21 (IANS) Noted environmentalist G.D. Agarwal and fellow activists, on a hunger strike since June 13 to protest construction of dams on the river Ganga, had to wind up their agitation Saturday evening after a crowd of 400 people shouted slogans against them. The demonstrators were virtually gheraoed (cricled) by the crowd who claimed themselves to be locals and said stoppage of the dams would harm their interests and of the people of the hill state, Vyomesh Chitranvansh, a spokesperson for the fasting activists, told IANS on phone.

The crowd reportedly consisted of former Uttarakhand chief minister Bhagat Singh Koshiyaris supporters.

The demonstrators would leave for Delhi Sunday morning. But the agitation would continue and Agarwal says he will continue his fast in the national capital though his health had deteriorated, he said.

The incident followed a media statement by the former chief minister that the suspension of work on two dams as announced by the Uttarakhand government Thursday evening, in the wake of Agarwals protest, was not in the interest of the people of the state.

Agarwal, 76, an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and former secretary general to the Central Pollution Control Board, launched his hunger strike against plans to construct six dams over the Ganga in a 100-km stretch from Gangotri, the source of the river, and Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand.

He was accompanied by 10 environmentalists, lawyers and rights activists, while many others joined in the demonstrations every day. They believe that damming of the Ganga would restrict the rivers natural flow and this would have serious environmental repercussions.

Chitravansh said Koshiyari issued his statement after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state Thursday night announced, following Agarwals protest, that two of the dams on the Ganga would be suspended.

Koshiyari, also from the BJP, said the governments decision was not in the interest of the people of the hill state.

Today evening, some 300 to 400 people claiming to be locals came to the Manikanika Ghat in Uttarkashi where Agarwal and others were on fast and gheraoed them. They shouted slogans against him asking him to go back, he said.

The police soon arrived on the scene and asked Agarwal and others to pack up before things slipped out of hands. All of them had to leave the place and they reached Kuriyal Bhawan at the office of the Ganga Mukti Abhiyan, Chitravansh said.
