Dear All

I am the Executive Director of PJKS- Parvatiya Jan Kalyan Sansthan with our offices at Dehradun, Srinagar and Ghansali. We are engaged in the developmental activities in Pauri and Tehri Garhwal for the last two decades. Our major projects are in the fieds of Watershed Development, Reproductive Child Health and Revival of Traditional System of Medicine.

Through our Garhwali Group I desire to diversify into other areas of developmental work for which we need national and international donors. This will go a long way in helping the people of Garhwal. We are even willing to consider the approprite consultancy fees to the fund-raisers.

We also need a receptionist for our Dehradun Office.

Dear Mr Rawat

Thanks a lot for such a nice post.

We need to spread awareness about hybrid seeds available in the market. Our people are getting trapped in to so called Hybrid- GM(Genetically Modified ) seeds. Now GM/Hybrid Sarson(mustard) is available and ready for trial. Multinational and western countries are seeing India as a big market, ruled by corrupt politicians, officials. They intend to fill the market with GM crops and we will loose our bio-diversity as well as entire generation in coming years.

Complete list of GM seeds, can be obtained from OXFAME website(need to check correct url.) Danger of GM food are not known to India yet. Europe has stopped feeding GM crop to their people and cattles because of health danger and birth defects. A sick generation is burden to entire nation. Guess who makes money? again multinationals enaged in health care business. Canada, US and Argentina are the biggest grower of GM crops.

I request you, please do not feed your kids GM food, do not give them snacks available in the market. We can take time from our busy schedules and make some home-made snacks for them, because its an investment too.

I also request, if you are planning to invest in residential property, just to make extra bucks, please invest in agricultural property.Investing in agricultural propery is win-win, good for us, good for enviornment.

I recommend one book- Stuffed and Starved, Author- Raj patel.

Regards

B Pandey

Dear all:

Organic farming an age old practice in Uttarakhand has been practiced in Uttarakhand agriculture since the Vedic period.  Farm is viewed as an economy and is primarily based on the principle: use of natural organic inputs and biological plant protection measures. Properly managed organic farming reduces or eliminates water pollution and helps conserve water and soil on the farm thereby enhances sustainability and agro-biodiversity.

Uttarakhand farmers have an inherent understanding of how to work closely with the nature, because now only 30 per cent of Uttarakhand' s total cultivable area is covered with fertilizers because of assured irrigation and the balance 70 per cent of arable land is mainly rain-fed with little or zero use of fertilizer. It isn't a profit oriented but social-profit oriented. Commitment to nature protection is a pre-requisite to organic farming. Uttarakhand has comparative advantage over many other Indian states because of the vast cultivated area, which has remained free of contamination from chemicals. Farmers in these areas often use organic manure as a source of nutrients that are readily available either in their own locality. Organic farming is based upon an integrated relationship among soil, minerals, water, plants, micro flora, insects, animals and human beings. It creates productive landscapes and successfully reconciles food production and
environmental conservation. Organic management relies on local human resources and knowledge to enhance natural resource processes, respecting ecological carrying capacities.

By reducing dependence on off-farm inputs and creating more balanced nutrient and energy flows, ecosystem resilience is strengthened, food security is increased and additional income are generated. Organic farming responds positively to all sustainable agriculture and rural development objectives and helps in maintaining soil fertility to improve crop production and socio-economic conditions of the farmers. One of the biggest rewards of organic farming is healthy soil that is alive with beneficial organisms. These healthy microbes, fungi and bacteria keep the harmful bacteria and fungi that cause diseases in check. Organic farmers, working with nature, build soil that protects their crops from diseases.
