Dehradun, 6 July: The new audio-cassette of folk singer Narendra Negi highlights some of the grave issues prevailing in Uttarakhand. Writer Hari Dutt Bhatt 'Sailesh' released the audio 'Mayaku Mundaru' here on Sunday.
'Mayaku Mundaru' consists of eight songs. The debut cassette of Himalayan Films, the audio makes a sharp comment on inflation, the hydropower projects of Uttarakhand and the practice of political parties to manipulate voters by supplying liquor during elections.
Releasing the audio, Hari Dutt Bhatt 'Sailesh', praised Negi for his poetry and contribution to popularisation of Garhwali folk music. "I was stunned to see the mass participation of the public and their spirit at a folk performance by Narendra Negi in Mussoorie in 2006. The local administration had asked Negi not to perform due to pressure from some politicians. People came in large numbers to register their protest against the sudden move of the administration. The long queue of people standing in support of Narendra Negi proved the mass popularity of the artist. They watched the performance in the open and in rain."
'Mayaku Mundaru' is not a run of the mill audio-cassette. It provides a look into the happenings of the hills. 'Hathan whiskey pilayee, Ful na rum,' is a satirical comment on the political parties and their faith in manipulating voters by supplying liquor. Negi spares no party in this song. 'Dev bhoomi ko nau badli, bijli bhoomi karyali ji,' criticises the mass hydro-power projects in the hill state.
'Hey Delhiwalo' minutely paints the pain of a hill woman whose husband has got lost somewhere in the blazing lights of Delhi. Growing inflation and Negi narrates the problem through 'Aab bhari gari hwagi zindagi'.
'Mayaku Mundaru' offers something extra and music lovers are likely to accept it with open arms. Meena Rana and Jyothi Nainwal are the two female singers in the audio.
Folk artists of yester-year Mohini Sharma and Shiv Prasad Dabral have been felicitated for their contribution to Garhwali folk. Despite the rain, music lovers in large numbers participated in the release function.

Dehradun, 6 July: 'Himalayan Films' began its innings as a musical company on Sunday. It launched its first audio-cassette 'Mayaku Mundaru' by renowned folk singer Narendra Singh Negi in the market. The company is the brainchild of prominent Non-Resident Uttarakhandi Ravindra Lakhera and renowned folk singer Narendra Singh Negi.
The concept of forming a music company in Uttarakhand took shape last year when Lakhera invited Narendra Singh Negi to New Zealand. They decided to team up to promote Uttarakhandi folk music and set up Himalayan Films. MC Lakhera joined the Company as the Director. The Company has been registered and now it has come up with its first production.
Ravindra Lakhera is possibly the most successful Uttarakhandi hotelier abroad. He has established a chain of restaurants in New Zealand and is planning to expand his business in Australia. Lakhera hails from village Reknikhal in Pauri.
The company aims to work for the preservation and conservation of hill music. Himalayan Films intends to promote local talent. The move is considered a good sign for Uttarakhandi Folk as the company has an experienced artist like Narendra Negi on its board.
Himalayan Films is planning to release one album per month. The Company has signed up many young artists and is looking for new talent.
