Tribute to Prof. DD Pant..a great loss to scintific community n Utta

With deep hearted sorrow, i would like to convey my condolences to the Pant family. We have lost a distinguished physicist, former director education (UP), founder head
of Physics and former VC Kumaon University Nainital, yesterday the June 11, 2008 at Haldwani, where he had been putting up his post-retirement life. Shri Vijay Sharma brought this news and I am extremely sad to hear,&nbsp; I had many instances to talk to him over phone and strongly believe that he was a great physicist, moreover a great Uttarakhandi, could be counted on among the very few hard core Indian photo physicist.
Dear Professor, your vision in terms of UKD would always enlighten the society and your research work would always bring cutting edge transformations in physics.
Your publications in well known international journals like "Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology" ,&nbsp; "Journal of Luminescence", chemical physics and chemical physics letters etc, would always be referred with high citations.

untimely death of his younger son was a blow from which he never
recovered. He is survived by three daughters,son and wife. All those who

Good thought, I completely agree with you.����The price hike in such scenario is just inevitable.
All though I have little knowledge of the subject but still���� on the basis of what I've heard/discussed or read, I����would like to put forward my view points:
* Govt increases prices so that petroleum companies do not bleed, this according to me is just a masquraded move����to please millions of people working in these PSUs. Think, why can't govt ask����these companies����to stop pumping����money advertisisng, promotion, sponsorship of cricket players, cricket tournamenet etc? Advertisisng is done either to create the demand or to increase the demand, in this case both are not required. If these oil companies cut advertisnsg budget they can anyway save lot of money. Why would we need ads for oils...this is anyway going to sell. On the other side govt should invest some amount of money in educating and����providing platform to����people tosave fuel in realistsic & doeable way.
* ENA (Base accohol)����is mixed with petrol in some proportion (5-10%) which is actually considered as good for quality of petrol. Why can't govt take some measures to use ENA in mxing with fuel, either more ENA production can be encuraged (which is much easier then controlling inflation due to price hike) or increase price of alchohol to cut the demand (this will help in two ways..low consumption and eventually more availability of ENA)
* When we do calculation, we calculate only petrol cost on the basis of barrel price. We loose sight of the fact there are endless petroleum by-products which have great demand in the market. Like polymers...etc. PSU refiniers seems less efficient in driving this optium product benefit.
* India is diversified land with best of geographical presentation, its is hard to believe that to find petroleum products in stiff task. There are several small- countries where they have developed mechanism, resource to extract crude from their own land. I've not heard govt finding anything or deploying some budget towards exploration.
* Lastly, I have heard about german and japeness advancement of finding alternative source of energy. We have capabilities as fas as scientific/technological know-how is concerned, where are we heading? Is there is any news����about the expected time frame of findidng alternative source of energy? Any news about govt setting up some committe/institution to deal with this issue concretly and conclusiovely. I have heard that japanesee might be able to����generate����energy from hydrogen cell by 2020.
I know these paramteres to not big enough to deal with the issue, but small-small effirts make lot of difference. At the end of this I must say I support govt decision of price hike as that was the only option available. Till what time govt will keep passing this to end customers. There should be some serious ownership of responsibility. I also liked PM's request to all CMs and related beaurocrats to measure austerity. Isn't����it great move?

Add 3.50 towards transportation and another 18/- Rs per litre for refining paid to the refineries. That totals up to 58/- Rs before tax. Add 17/- Rs tax (all taxes) which makes it 75/- Rs per litre of petrol/diesel/ kerosene. One cylinder of gas costs 600/- Rs but we are getting at half the rate.This govt is crazy.

��������������������������� The price of petrol has gone up by 50 times whereas the number of vehicles has gone up by 100 times. do u know that We did not loose the war against China due to shortage of oil. that time govt. gave us much subsidy. govt. providing us many energy saver like solar,, we didn't use it, even we can use is easily. so we don't have right to say that it was not a good IDEA. can u know that, In Karnataka bus fare is about 75% costlier than train fare but people do travel.

Malaysia Rs 18 per litre
In India it����s Rs.59 per litre

Why is there a difference within India itself ? World Market CRUDE Oil is not the reason for this. It's all Gain for private owners? As we are the general public, or Common Man as R.K.Laxman wud have said, we have to raise our voice, let's raise thru Emails.

AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES.

which are poorly managed and almost running under severe loss. And you are right with Crores of donations received by the temple, i too wonder where all the money drains out. I see no development. Then the problem of Toilets is also very considerable and if given a priority i would rate it at highest.

Can we as a group could do something about it. Should we approach some NGOs (like greenpeace) or take the matter to the govt itself. But How? I would request the Pauri Garhwal Group to take up this issue in next meet & all the Garhwalis in concerned Political & Social organisations to get the Politicians and Beaurocrats to task.
Noone hears���  the plight of ordinary GARHWALI. Even roads were started to be built after 1962 China War. These roads are not built for us or for promoting tourism.
H N Bahugunaji was concerned about ALLAHBAD. N D Tiwariji did Great job for Kumaoun.
��� Chaar Dham Yatra is done by Helicopter by VIPs & current Chief Minister & his Cabinet.
They dont bother about this area as we are Docile , Non Violent and Patient . Facilities & Development are for Kashmir , Darjeeling (Nepalese) & other areas threatening our country. The Proud, Nationalist , PATRIOT Garhwali will remain like tht & no Politician or Political party is bothered about us.. Indira Gandhi was rather fuul against us. Mulayam Singh Butcherded us. They Know we have no will to fight.
Pl. forgive me for harsh words which is a reality. The young generation must unite & do something.It can start by arranging Photos & Information of wrong doings to be sent to MEDIA. I can help.

The next time you are holidaying in the hills of Garhwal and find yourself in the midst of trouble, dialing 108 for immediate help can prove beneficial and at times life saving.
When a group of five foreign tourists found themselves caught in an avalanche on their way to Gaumukh, the origin of river Ganga, early this month, they were surprised to see help arriving within hours at the dizzying elevation of 4255 metres in the Garhwal Himalayas.

In another incident, two persons critically injured when a landslide struck their house in a remote village of Pauri district were rushed to a nearby hospital in a matter of 30 minutes in the dead of the night on May 24.

In yet another case of instant action, a woman in labour pain in a remote village in Chamoli was provided immediate medical help and she delivered a healthy baby boy.

The new innovative 'dial 108 scheme', launched recently to provide relief to people in distress in Uttarakhand, a major tourist destination in north India, has attracted a lot of attention, with the government claiming that it has become very useful in the hill state having tough terrains and long serpentine roads.

The scheme was launched in collaboration with emergency management and research institute (EMRI), a private company, which will get Rs 16 crore as annual maintenance fees.

Under the scheme, EMRI, as the nodal agency, has been provided ambulances, equipped with paramedical staffs, police and fire brigade personnel, life saving drugs, oxygen cylinders and first-aid material.

"Keeping in view the tough terrain and vulnerability of the state for natural calamities and road accidents, where several people die due to inaccessibility to quick and timely medical aid, this service will prove a boon," said Health minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank. PTI
