Namaskar Uttarakhandi Bhai Bahino,

Uttarakhand Regional Films had started marking since 1980.
Jagwaal, Ghar Jawai, Megha Aaa etc movies were made between
1980-1990. But thereafter, the pace of making Uttarakhandi Cinema
got slower thereafter. However, Uttarakhandi Music albums market
has picked-up a bit. Now-a-days, a lot Uttarakhandi films are
being made but these films have not been able to impress upon the
viewers. There are various factors responsible behind this issue,
be it quality issue, technical issue, script issue etc etc.
However, one of the crucial issues is that we do not have a
Registered Film Industry even after 7 years of formation of State
due to which the standards of the UK"s films never came upto
the mark. Uttarakhand has rich potential of making films on
tourism sectors, culture and temples etc.

Mr R K Verma, a famous Filmologist, Journalist, Director has
joined us and who is also presently Chairman of Uttaranchal Film
Chamber of Commerce to start this project afresh. Dr Verma who
has vast experience  on this field. He had also directed and
produced a Hindi Movie "Ritu Aaye Ritu Jaaye" earlier. He
has been jury of many film films. His book "Filmography on
Silence Cinema has been acclaimed at national and international
levels. He born and brought-up in Dehradoon.

Like we all, Dr Verma has also a dream that Uttarakhand should
have a registered Regional Film Industry that the films of UK get
its due recognition at national and international level.

May we request you all to kindly give your views on this issue so
that we can take-up the matter with the Govt.  Here is the
link of the relevant thread but before that kindly get registered
to forum to give your views.

However, one of the crucial issues is that we do not have a
Registered Film Industry even after 7 years of formation of State
due to which the standards of the UKs films never came upto

He had also directed and
produced a Hindi Movie Ritu Aaye Ritu Jaaye earlier. He
has been jury of many film films. His book Filmography on
Silence Cinema has been acclaimed at national and international

Re: Survey on Arranged marriages Vs Love Marriages

Hi all,

Mrs CK Pandey is partially right, but I dare her to make a value judgement and say that arrange marriage is better than the love marriage.

She is also missing the main crux behind the love marriage. Love marriage stems from romanticism and physical attraction between two individuals. Of course, other variables may also be present when two individuals determine their partnership.

The essense of arranged marriage is that if two families are compatible on a range of variables then the boy and girl are bound to be compatible in all aspects.  Once upon a time this assumption did hold , as the main  aim of Hindu marriage was procreation not romantic love. After all where was the space for a couple to be by themselves as several people shared one room.

Several people still share a room in Indian metropolitin cities specially Delhi, I wonder when does a couple get time for themselves when all their children and sometimes in-laws including brother and sister in laws sleep in the same room.

Clearly, arranged marriage remains dominant in India and in particular Uttarakhand. As the families go nuclear and individuals take responsibility for themselves parental dtermination of marriage will continue.

Regards,
Mohan Negi

Dear Kamayani:

In my point of view arranged marriage is better because this bond is not only of 2 persons but of 2 families. If families of both boy and girl will agree then with permission and blessings of elders they can go for love cum arranged marriage. If the choice is good then sometime parents don't object. If the love is within community and choice is good, then parents will always agree to that.  Because in love marriage, if something bad will happen later on sufferer is either the boy or the girl and they cannot raise the voice also because this is their own choice. If the boy/girl is not of same community they have to adjust in each and every step of life ie. customs, food habits, clothing. Now a days children don't have patience to agree with the in-laws so they find it very difficult to adjust.

There are plenty of examples. There is one girl in my office also, who is punjabi and the boy is from U.P. and that poor girl is getting tortured within a short span of time of her marriage. She is not allowed to wear salwar kameez. She is just 24 years of age and they are asking her to cover the head and even saying to cover upto her eyes. Ridiculous, this can happened with educated girl and in love marriage. She is not allowed to go in front of her elders and to sit in front of relatives. Even for food, onion and garlic is not allowed. She is adjusting everywhere and here her husband also forcing her to do whatever his parents are saying as he is saying, his parents have permitted him to marry with her.

If it is arranged marriage, the parents and girl knows what are their customs so will not find it difficult to adjust. In love marriage, parents generally don't accept the girl or her family till end and treat her outsider.

Marriage require adjustments whether it is love or arranged marriage. But children should keep in mind the happiness of their parents also

God bless
Mrs. Pandey

finally passed CCIE Voice

Posted by: "Pushkar Bhatkoti" pushkarbhatkoti@yahoo.com   pushkarbhatkoti

Fri Jul 25, 2008 9:38 pm (PDT)

Just though that my personal achievement may help to other aspirants;

http://www.voiceie.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=24;t=000043

I finally got my shiny new number after studying hard for the past 9 months with my full time job.
Yeah, I passed my CCIE voice lab. I am one of those 800 people around the world who are certified in CCIE voice.

In
Oct, 2005 I started studying for R&S lab but after a few month of
preparation I though its not enough, end of the day its vendor cert.
I
decided to leave CCIE for a while and gain a Masters Degree in
"Networking" first. I took an admission in Charles Stuart University
Sydney and then finished it in a year & a month [jan 2006 to feb
2007].

Then I had nothing to do so I thought to go back and do
CCIE cert. I took a few months break from study and then thought
seriously about which CCIE track I go for. I finally made a decision do
the toughest exam first and then easier ones, so I hopped on CCIE voice
horse.

At the beginning I started studying 2-6 hours per week
for CCIE voice written after june2007. I passed the voice written exam
in august 2007. After that it was a real challenge for me to arrange
routers switches, servers and softwares for the home lab. It took 2
months to arrange routers, servers for unity, call manager etc.

I
started labbing from nov, 2007 and binded up my study on 20th of
July,2008 [ in 9 months]. I have logged about 1700+ hours of labbing
and studying. 80% labbing and 20% studying on the forums, workbook,
cisco.com/unvercd etc.

To be honest, I didn't sleep properly for
the last 4 months. I used to get back to home form work at 6pm, start
labbing until 3-4am. If I remember correctly I didn't sleep for more
than 3-4 hours per day, after that get up early morning7am, get ready
and go to work. I found it worked for me but the drawback of this is -
in middle of the week I used to collapse completely due to not enough
sleep.

but end of the day, hard work pays!

Thanks to everyone who've helped me.

Special
thanks to my boss, and my employer for supporting me - yes they paid
for my 4 attempts and about $30K for my lab gears [lucky me].

Oh
yeah, proctor at Sydney lab is very helpful [that doesn't mean that he
gives you the solutions]. I have read many threads on GS or other
forums saying that proctor changes config during lunch break or
something like that. Hey, the fact is that the proctor goes with you to
have his lunch as well so who is there to change the configs? all hoax!
Also, in Sydney lab proctor were very helpful in provide the DocCD docs
[the link which were not working]. Thanks Scott for your help and I
won't forgot those nice eggs sandwiches.

Now I will take a few weeks break before I start R&S track.

Here is the list of my study materials;
----------------------------------------

This forum [voiceie.com] was very helpful and was the main tool [along with cisco.com/univercd] for my study.

IM
study mates; this is a must tool for everyone, make your MSN/yahoo
study partner. This helps when u run into trouble and your available
resources gets short. U can instant ask the question to your study
mates. I had 2-3 good full time 24/7 study mates. without them I
couldn't have done it.

FYI, I never attended any bootcamps or
institute for VoIP training. I am working in IT for the past 8 years
[mainly in R&S, firwalls, iptel stuffs] so it was easy for me to
nail all topics of voice exam.

I have used a MOC lab from Robert Hockley [kiwi guy] http://www.ccievoice-assessor.com/
that
was helpful and I came across knowing many thing which I wouldn't have
normally picked up by myself. its was about $450 bucks but after I did
my 8 hours full lab, we [robert and I] went through all scenarios,
questions and discussed on the phone for more than 5 hours. WoW.... u
can ask him anything virtually..

Apart from above, I used
ccbootcamp's volume#1 and technology workbook. the technology workbook
was helpful when i was starting to study. so for new aspirant its good
to use ccbootcamp's technology workbook. Thanks Brad and Avner for such
a wonderful quick reference book.

COD – Fasial khans and Mark
snow/Vik's free online class. Take free online from these experts, its
worth. Specially Vik's IPMA tricks.

I also used ieMENTOR voice workbook as a reference and to simulate different scenario.

Also
bought a few books on call manager, gw/gatekeeper but found them
helpless. If you are thinking to buy one of those books, i would rather
advise to buy ccbootcamp's technology book.

Those books still on my self and badly need dusting. )

Remember, you've to come up with many scenarios as possible.

The
last thing is, never give up. If you fail ride on the horse again. I
used to have 1 week break and get back on the routine study. If time
permits, I will be on this forum and will contribute to other guys who
are still on the journey. Keep the hard work up and one day you all
will get your CCIE#.

Posted by: "Pushp" Kumarpushp@hotmail.com   kumarpushp90

Thu Jul 24, 2008 10:03 am (PDT)

[UANA08] Uttarakhandis reverberated the Harvard & MIT The
Uttarakhand Association of North America (UANA) ™ held their annual
convention in grand style this Saturday (the July 19, 2008) at Boston,
Massachusetts. This was a whole day event with seminar scheduled in the
morning at Emerson Hall of the Harvard University. The evening program
comprising of General Body meeting and the Cultural-Program was held at
famed Kresge Auditorium of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
The attendees came from all over North America, from Canada, Virginia,
California, New Jersey, New York, New Hampshire, Rhode Island,
Connecticut, Texas, Missouri, North Carolina. There were attendees from
3month old infants to the 96 years old beloved Dr. J.P. Kukreti of Univ.
of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Highlights of the program included a
theatrical rendition of the Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra by New England
members of UANA, and various discussions on the state of Uttarakhand as
well as UANA itself.

The seminar program in the morning consisted of a presentation by Mr.
Manuj Pathak of Association for India's Development (AID). The
presentation involved discussion of AID SAATHI Malika Virdi's ongoing
project in the area of women empowerment in Munsiyari region of
Uttarakhand. Rajiv Rawat, a stalwart of the seminar series, presented on
both the Mountain Shepherds Initiative and his PhD dissertation topic.
For the second presentation, he decided to take a highly critical look
at the state, veering sharply away from the usual boosterism, to
critique the new state's policies and politics that he had heard
repeatedly in his travels through Uttarakhand over the last two years.
These issues were further highlighted by Dr. S.R. Hiramath who spoke on
"Nadi Bachaoo Andolan" and recent protest of environmentalist
and academician Dr. G.D. Agarwal for conservation of Bhagirathi river.

Kids coming from various state had a chance to visit Harvard and MIT
World famous university and also took a tour of Boston Childrens Museum

Despite Chief Minister Khanduri's last minute cancellation due to
illness of his spouse, other dignitaries from India including
Uttarakhand's youngest MLA, Mr. Pushpesh Tripathi, and Mr. Dhirender
Pratap, former spokesperson for Janata Dal and Congress, made the trip
to Boston. Other special guests included Parashar Gaur, the Garhwali
filmmaker from Toronto and community elders Dr. Prabhu Negi, the
original founder of UANA, Dr. Ramesh Pandey, and Dr. Basant Tariyal.
Professor Joshi from Department of Physics along with his wife Professor
Mrs Lata Joshi head of Chemistry Department of Kumaon University also
graced the occasion from India.

Greetings and wishes for Uttarakhand association of North America from
Uttarakhand Chief Minister BC Khanduri, Shri Harish Rawat, Mr. Ruskin
Bond, Mr. Victor Banerjee, Shri. Satyam Darmora, Shri. Narender Singh
Negi, Shri. Girish Tiwari (Girda), Dr. Shekar Pathak and Sri Chandan
Dangi from India, Dr. Shyam S Phartyal from Japan, Shri N S Bisht, from
Singapore Mansi and Mr. Deepak Dabral from London were received and
presented to all the convention participants.

The evening began with a Yoga demonstration by Yogiraj Om Prakash ji
Maharaj of Om Yog Sansthaan. The yoga demonstration was thoroughly
enjoyed and appreciated by all attendees. UANA Yr. 2008 Convention
Coordinator, Pushp Kumar, Mr. Vijay Sharma and Deepak Nautiyal thanked
the participants for their support and generosity in making this
convention possible. Deepak Nautiyal also spoke about the accomplishment
of Uttarakhand Association of North America. He mentioned how during
UANA 2007 convention UANA presented and honored the distinguished guests
and famous personalities of Uttarakhand –Narendra Singh Negi, Dr.
Sekhar Pathak, and Girda – for the first time in North America, and
felicitated them with "Lifetime Achievement Awards" for their
for their outstanding contribution to Uttarakhand society. Mr. Deepak
Nautiyal also spoke about how UANA has successfully conducted the UANA
Award for academic Excellence project that has made the name of this
association well respected within Uttarakhand, and the entire
Uttarakhandi community worldwide including North America.

Mr. Vijay Sharma felicitated distinguished guests Mr. Pushpesh Tripathi,
Mr. Dhirendra Pratap, Mr Parashar Gaur, Dr. Kukreti, Dr. PDS Negi, Dr.
Basant Tariyal, Dr Kailsah Joshi and
Dr. Ramesh Pandey on behalf of UANA. Dr Kailash Joshi of CA could not
attend the convention So he was honored by Mr. Sharma in his absence.

The cultural program was yet another illustrious affair with the New
England chapter leading the way with an array of songs and dance
numbers. While the Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra was by far the most
elaborate production, enormous efforts were made by various youth,
encouraged in their work by Pushp Kumar, coordinator of the UANA Yr.
2008 Convention organizing committee. All the participants of the Nanda
Devi Yatra thoroughly enjoyed the experience of simulating this
centuries old tradition on stage. Meenu and Manish Tiwari of
Massachusetts while performing the Holy Nanda Devi yatra experienced the
most amazing spiritual experience. Susheel Tiwari, who was a participant
of the year 2000 Nanda Devi Raj Jaat yatra shared his experience via
power point presentation. Preparation for the Nanda Devi yatra item
brought all Uttarakhandi families from New Englad area together, as they
spent every weekend of the last 3 months preparing for it. Many thanks
to Susheel, Alka and Pramod Pandey, Kamla Adhikari, Sunita Badola,
Lokesh & Navneet Negi, Meenu Tiwari ,and Seema and Biren Manchikalapati
for making this possible. Also, heartfelt thanks to Deepak pant of New
Hampshire and Lokesh and Navneet Negi of Rhode Island for traveling long
distance to join families from Masachusetts every weekend to participate
in practice sessions. Tapan and Ruchi Tiwari also made sure to be there
for every practice. Mansiha and Narender and Susheel and Seema Tiwari
are recently blessed with baby and those little infants were also the
part of practices. Although Girish Pathak could not make to practices so
he contributed by donations for the convention.
Special applaud for our hero Manan Pandey who missed several of his
soccer games to come to practice and took the lead role of Khadu "RAM"
As per Mrs Pushp Kumar, the joint effort of handful of pahadi families
contributed 100% towards the success of the convention. Nanda lok jaat
yatra was conceived and choreographed by young talented Sanju Pahari,
who is a scientist by profession and a true and most committed pahadi by
nature. Mamta Tripathi, an attendee from New Jersey commented that the
whole show was just awe inspiring and jaw dropping, the music, costumes,
performance, commentary and everything was just superb. Every one could
not stop praising the musical yatra. Professor Nautiyal of BHU also
commented that he has not seen such a show that made every person
present deeply involved in it.

In the foyer, the works of Mohini Rawat, a California-based artist, were
displayed. Jyoti Kandpal, a talented versatile singer was also among the
attendees and congratulated all the participants for putting a grand
show. As per her, this show has superbly showcased our culture as it had
all different folk music and dance of pahad like Cholia, chanchari,
jagar, jhoda etc.

Another attraction was the Tabla performance and Fusion on the song Bedu
pako. Probably it was first time when bedu pako was played as a fusion
by various instruments together, piano, violin, tabla and guitar etc.
This was an excellent presentation by kids. Kudos to Yash Adhikari,
Akshat Pandey, Natasha Kumar and Kriti Badola for their flawless
performance. Other attractions were performance on some Bollywood songs
and some pahadi songs including bedu pako.

Evening ended with sumptuous pahadi cuisine as dinner. All the
participants had only good things to remember for this educative and
memorable day of celebrating Uttarakhand Art, Culture and Heritage
together as a united, strong, and vibrant community of Uttarakhand
Association of North America at Boston.

Posted by: "Pushp" kumarpushp90@yahoo.com   kumarpushp90

Re: Survey on Arranged marriages Vs Love Marriages

Dear Kamayani,

As far as I am involved, I would say arranged marriages are better. Being a girl, I would say it's a fair deal. Today every young boy or girl is busy either working or studying. Don't have time to find compatible partner for ourselves. We can take our parents into confidence and tell them what our criteria is for our partners. I feel no parents would like to see their child's future in trouble. And they would put their best efforts to find a perfect one for their child.

As for failures and successes of marriages is concerned, I would say there are a no. of cases for success and failure of Arranged marriages as well as love marriages. Actually it depends upon husband and wife both how they manage their married life. Either it's an arranged one or it's a love marriage, adjustments have to be made on both the parts. Only then it would be a success.

Finally i would mention that in our society, love marriages within only our religion, community and caste are acceptable. So, to stay on safer side either
a)      tell your parents your criterias, and they would find a suitable one; or
b)      ask your parents their criteria, and find your love accordingly.
Seems to be funny, but is the best way to make a balance between arranged and love marriage.
 With Thanks & regards
Kiran Parmar

Uttarakhandis Reverberated the Harvard & MIT

Posted by: "Pushp" kumarpushp90@yahoo.com   kumarpushp90

Thu Jul 24, 2008 10:54 pm (PDT)

In the foyer, the works of Mohini Rawat, a California-based artist, were
displayed. Jyoti Kandpal, a talented versatile singer was also among the
attendees and congratulated all the participants for putting a grand
show. As per her, this show has superbly showcased our culture as it had
all different folk music and dance of pahad like Cholia, chanchari,

participants had only good things to remember for this educative and
memorable day of celebrating Uttarakhand Art, Culture and Heritage

I forward the mail bcz I don't have much information in this matter. So, I send the mail to the people who can at least give some information in this matter. Thanks that u reply the mail.

But if the statement made by Chagavala are true then also can we support the deal????

Please try to understand the mentality the most developed country...US..

1. They never care about others. They are taking their own decision and we the other  undeveloped countries allows them to take any action against any country.
2. US top IT and others organisations are controlled by our people. They know the talent of India and that the reason they want to know more about our research specially in nuclear field.
3. Is there any prove that this US has stopped making nuclear weapons??
4. And India is a country that brings the message of peace to others from long past. But it does not mean that we should stop making weapons for our own protection.
5.I agree we have several draw back but I believe we will be able to make our India much more developed without the help of any other  and it is true that  we are developing.

Again we should believe our representative ie our leaders, they are also our people and hope they know better about the deal and they will not allow any one to enter our kitchen room.

Thanks

Good story to show by Mr. Gaorav Chagavala,
He never explained that the what was the source of his information.
I am surprised that the drafts of agreements which has never been made public or even never brought to the house of parliament, and Mr. Gaourav managed to arrange a copy and made it publicJ. The drafts of the well known CTBT which was not being accepted by India during the last many years only because the reason was we wanted to develop our atomic war power status. Now when we have achieved this it was a demand of time that we join the union of most developed nations. Can you see any of the country destroyed because of signing the treaty and I can say there are countries like south Korea who are younger then us and the Japan not much elder then us and I don¢t need to type it here that whether they are more stronger and developed then us.
It is better to join the union of Developed nations rather then having an atom bomb and let our peoples drive some thing better then just a  luna for the rest of life.

DEAR,

Did you know ?

What is 123 (N deal) Agreement?

Nuclear Agreement between India - USA :MUST READ BY EVERY INDIAN

There are lot of talks about 1 2 3 Agreement between India & USA and it
almost led to the topple of Central Government. In this mail I am trying

to explain the commercial & technical aspects relating to this Agreement
which I have read and sharing with you.

What is 123 Agreement?

This is called 123 Agreement because this comes under USA's Atomic Power
Act Section 123.
Let's see how India's (Indians?) Sovereinty & Independence are
pledged...

(1) After this Agreement USA will supply all fuel, machinery / equipment
& technology to India for producing Nuclear Power.

(2) All these days from about 22 Nuclear Power Plants, India is
producing power as well as Atom.  It's a high security / secret that
from where which is produced, how much is produced, where it is
supplied, what research is being done with that, etc. to anybody.  But
if we sign this Agreement, we have to disclose these secrets and also
agree to 14 of our Nuclear Power Plants to be under the scanner of
International Atomic Power Organization.

(3) The fuel utilized to produce Atomic Power can be recycled for reuse
and this plant will be under direct supervision of IAPO.

If India does nuclear test, this agreement gets cancelled.  But

(1) USA will take back all the machinery / equipments / technology
supplied to India thus far.

(2) Those 14 plants will continue to be under scanner irrespective of
the status of the agreement.

On the other hand, if any of the commitments given by USA is breached by
them, then there is no clause for cancelling this agreement.

The agreement is apparently like this... USA can either hug India or
slap India.  India will not ask why are we hugged or why are we slapped.

On the other hand, India cannot hug or slap USA for breach of agreement.

This is only capsule so that easy to read and digest.

Subject: India Pledged.... Part 2

Requirement of Power

The most important requirement for India's Economic Growth in the coming
years will be the power & infrastructure. The argument put forth
favoring the 123 Agreement says that we need Nuclear Power Production
to be increased to meet the demand.

Power Production in India

Presently following are the figures:

Thermal Power        66%

Hydel Power           26%

Solar & Wind Power  5% - Presently Rs.600 Crores are spent for producing
this power.

Nuclear Power           3% - If this is to be increased to 6%, it
requires additional Rs.50,000 Crores.

Naturally it will be wise to increase other 3 modes of power production
rather than the expensive & dangerous Nuclear Power. Isn't??

URANIUM

We used to import Uranium from various other countries.  After the
Pokran Test, we are not getting it. To augment the supply, we need to
sign the 123 Agreement to get Uranium from USA.  But we will have to
declare to USA from which power plant India takes raw material for
producing Atom Bomb.  Why should we disclose our internal secrets to
those  rascals  ? Will any one allow an outsider to continuously monitor
what's happening in your Hall & Kitchen of your house?   Other study
reveals that Uranium is available in India aplenty. Only hurdle is the
acquisition of land. To produce Atomic Power & Bomb in the next 40
years, the requirement of Uranium is 25,000 MT whereas the availability
is 78,000 MT across India.

PLUTONIUM

Presently 35% of Plutonium is used to produce Atomic Bombs. After
signing the Agreement, we will be allowed to use only 10%. Who are those
rascals to restrict the usage of our natural resource ?  That is though
you are capable of cooking & eating 10 idlis as your breakfast, you are
allowed only 3 idlis henceforth. How can it be?  Why should we accept
this?

THORIUM

As told by Dr.APJ, we have abundant Thorium. In fact we are the 2nd
largest producer of Thorium next only to Australia.  India has to
explore this further for producing power.  For your information, in
South India - particularly around Kanyakumari, the availability of
Thorium is abundant.

INDIA-IRAN-CHINA

USA does not like the amicable relationship between India-Iran and also
India-China.  If India-China relationship gets stronger, then both these
can rule the Eastern Part of the Globe which USA wants to break as per
their divide & rule.

By signing this agreement, USA wants India to depend on it for producing
power which is going to be a crucial factor in future. There is a talk
of bringing Natural Gas from Iran to India with a big pipeline project.
USA doesn't like this proposal.

Atomic Power Technology

Whether power is produced or Bomb is produced, using Atomic power
without spoiling the infrastructure and without allowing the radiation
is always under threat. Moreover preserving the wastes coming out of
Atomic Power Plants is expensive & unsafe.

There was an accident in Three Miles Island in USA. To close this plant
nearly USD 200 Crores spent with tons & tons of concrete but yet to be
fully closed.

In an another accident at Soviet Union's Serbia Plant, even the next
generation child are affected due to the radiation.

It will be very very expensive to defuse & close down an Atomic Power
Plant than its construction cost.

France

France has got 56 Nuclear Power stations producing 73% of the country's
total power requirement.  They are catching up the problem of
eliminating the wastes / emissions from out of those plants at the same
time increase the power production capacity.  Government of France is
now thinking how to reduce the power consumption in the country.

Conclusion

In view of the above danger, rather than signing the agreement and
pledging India to USA, it will be prudent to increase the Solar & Wind
Energy and more importantly Hyder Power Production can be increased by
linking all rivers across India and by constructing DAMS.

The whole process of this Agreement started in the year 2005 when
Manmohan visited USA. In a span of just 2 years a major decision of
signing this agreement has taken place with political motive.  On the
contrary, neither this Government nor any other earlier Central
Government could not amend the Constitution thereby nationalise the
rivers across the country thereby effectively utilise the water
resources for both Agriculture purpose and producing Hydel Power. What
an irony?

Whenever someone is helping the needy, you can't expect the TERMS AND
CONDITIONS BETWEEN THE needy and the helper to be EQUAL???  BUT

(1) the helper's ulterior motive should be seen with broad eye because
he is capable of digging a grave behind you and

(2) better to be self-sufficient and explore new avenues with available
resources.

INDIA-CHINA-USA

India is very rich in Culture, follow Religions, Value Ethics, Level of
Education is Very Good.

China is also rich in Culture, follow Religion, better disciplined.

USA does not have Culture, does not have Ethics, only want power over
others.  Particularly wants a firm footing in South Asia.  Remember the
introduction EURO by European Countries and it is stronger than Dollar?
So their "DAL" cannot be boiled at "EUROPE".  They are trying in India
as already Pakistan is in their clutches.

Regards,

PG GROUP TEAM IS SET TO VISIT GOVERNMENT INTER COLLEGE, MASI, ALMORA, UTTARAKHAND ON 25TH JULY, 2008. THERE ARE TOTAL 10 MEMBERS IN THE TEAM.

----------------------------------------------------------
While running 10 kilometres in the hilly terrain to beat the first bell in a remote village in Uttarakhand during his school days, he never thought those early workouts will fetch a ticket to the Beijing Olympics.

Meet Surendra Singh who will become the first Indian, after Harichand in the 1976 Montreal Games, to race in the Olympics 10,000 metres race. The unassuming soldier, one of the top wards of Belarussian coach Dr Nikolai Snesariev, is now eyeing a top-10 finish in the 25-lap race.

"From class XI to XII, I had to run 10 kms to reach my school and I think it helped me a lot as I stood first in the Army recruitment rally and then in the daily cross-country races at the unit,'' said the 30-year-old Libran, who hails from Chamoli district.

It was this raw talent that forced the authorities to pick the Naik Subedar of Garwal Rifles for advanced training in November 2003. There was no big waiting for the results as Singh dominated the national cross country scene from the very next year winning a hat-trick of titles.

For one year he trained at the Army Sports Institute in Pune before Snesariev took him under his fold in 2006. The result of all the hard work paid off during his recent 45-day training and competition trip to Europe.

First he broke Bahadur Singh's long standing record in 3,000m and within 10 days-on June 15-smashed Hari Chand's 32-year-old record in 10,000m at the Nike BMC Grand Prix at Watford, England.

But even the record breaking performance was not enough to qualify for Beijing but Singh says he was confident of making
the grade. His dream came true on July 13 as he raced past the 'B' mark while finishing fourth in the Spanish Olympic trials at Vigo, when he again reset the national mark at 28 minutes, 02.89 seconds. "The field was good and the tough competition helped me,'' he said.

Singh, who will race alongside some of the legends in distance running, now eyes a great kick in Beijing. "The Asian athletes will be familiar with the hot conditions while the Europeans may struggle. My aim is a top-10 finish,'' he said.

And once the curtain falls on Olympics, Surendra Singh can look forward to get back home and share some Olympic tales with his fellow villagers considering that his last homestay was way back in December 2006.

For your information please.

A new scheme has been proposed by the Khanduri Government for providing MBBS education at an annual fee of Rs.15,000 to students who are willing to serve for five years in the remote areas of the state after completion of the course.
State Principal Secretary for Medical Education, Vijendra Pal said, "The new scheme has been proposed to ensure medical facility at or near the remote areas where doctors generally do not prefer to do a job or setup private practice centres."

"Students who are willing to enroll out of the five-year service bond will have to pay Rs.35 lakhs to the Government", added Pal.

Selling off Uttarakhand's Hydro-Power houses is plunging a knife int

Posted by: "devesh pant" deveshpant2002@yahoo.co.in   deveshpant2002

Editor,
The Garhwal Post,
Via Email

Sir,

Today's front page news should arouse every Uttarakhandi. Selling off Uttarakhand's Hydro-Power houses is putting a knife into our very hearts so to say. Cheap power was the gift which these Power Stations have presented to Uttarakhandis. These were the perpetual gold-mines, which have benefited Uttarakhandis because of their very low generation cost @ 29 Paise or so.

It is incrdible that a sane Government can think of privatising them. Cheap power will dissappear the moment private parties grab these stations.

This smacks of Grand Larceny - a colossal conspiracy to steal our precious resources. A public-spirited  drive to prevent this happening spearheaded by The Garhwal Post is URGENTLY called for. I am sure a PIL could be filed to prevent this and simultaneously the present Government  must be brought to account.

These form the heart of our economy from the time of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Dr. KL Rao. Such a cheap and perpetual source of power cannot be found anywhere in the country.

There is no doubt the Khanduri Government must be held to account. There must be interested private parties lobbying for this sell-off so it is a task for Garhwal Post to undertake investigative journalism. Mr. Arun Pratap Singh must go around UJVNL offices to find out more about the machinations.

These Hydro-Power Stations were the result of meticulous planning and diligent upkeep from the past so any attempt to sell them off for so-called refurbishment has to be thoroughly investigated. Every aspect of such a move must be scanned by experts. If the Khanduri Government is hell-bent on doing so it is also time the Congress stepped in to examine every aspect. Congress big-wigs must go deep into this.

If this sell-off is done it will be good -bye forever to Uttarakhan'd cheap power.Garhwal Post had published scathingly critical articles of Pro Bone Publico on the present Government's so-called 'New power Policy' sometimes in mid-December 2007. These must be read for insight into the machinations that prevail.

As a retired engineer I can say that this present move stinks of corrupt practices.  It is nothing short of gross betrayal of our aspirations by this Government or what passes for it.

Yours faithfully,
Devesh 'Darshan' Pant,

This is indeed a shocking news. Selling off public onwed assets to private companies has no sound basis at all. While, the government provides services and facilities to the people without the profit as a motive, private companies  on the other hand, thrive on the business of profit making. No wonder, in future they might even create artificial shortages to boost up the price of power per unit. I mean, how can we sell of these assets, which belong to the people of the states to private parties? There is a huge epic of corruption being written in Uttarakhand with BC Khanduri at the helm.

Khanduri recently laid the foundation stone for Chief Minister Residence in Dehradun, that would cost 18 crore to the state exchequer. Now, when the issue of state capital is still under consideration, can our state bear such enormous expenses? How about establishing new primary schools, high schools, degree colleges, upgradation of hospitals, introduction of ambulance helicopters for each district head quarter or atleast getting the issue of permanent capital fixed.  No, Khanduri has a limited understanding of these issues, but he knows his politics too well.

I was never an admirer of Khanduri and never even once I had this doubt in my mind, that he is the most incapable and incompetent person to hold the CM's chair in Uttarakhand, because for me, he chose his way around the political corridors by sucking up to the higher ups in the party. His erstwhile designation as Union Minister for Transport and now as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, despite not fighting the state assembly elections, points to this fact.

God bless
Mrs. Pandey

Dear Vijay,

Thanks for your mail and beautiful feeling that created more interest in visiting Binsar. Thanks for the info that you gave. We shall start from Thailisain and try coming out of Sarai Khet route. Lets see i have been to Thalisain earlier but that was some 7 yrs back now most of things would have changed.

I have been to Diba and Gujru Garhi some 4 yrs back... indeed it is one of the fantastic places i have ever been too... though it is scary and surrounded with thick jungles but it has all the beauty.

Thanks for writing back... Hope you had liked the blog also and the pics...

Hi Group,

Any member who has done the Doodhatoli trek near Thailisain. I shall be interested in knowing how much exactly the distance is for trek from Thailisain and what is the scope of accomodation. Also, how much long Binsar would be from this place. I have taken the information from internet to some extent but i shall be interested in live experince (of someone who has done this trek).
We are also looking at the option of starting trek from Thailisain and comeback via Saraikhet route but we are yet to figure that out if that is quite possible.

We are 4 trekkers from Delhi interested in doing the trek between 14-18 August in the age group of 26-28. Likeminded fellows are invited to join.

Our purpose is to highlight travel destinations in Uttarakhand and bring them to public's notice via Internet. We are looking forward to launch 'Project-Promote Uttarakhand' later sometimes in September for highlighting lesser known destinations and treks in our regions like Gujru-gadhi, Diba Danda but we need groups contribution to know hidden places that only is known to them but not outside the Uttaranchal overall. We shall prmote places by writing travelogues on these places and posting them on major travel sites and through our own site.

Enthusiast travellers can check some of the work on www.bugshead.blogspot.com and www.flickr.com/myth_drinker

Some facts about Calorie we consume

Posted by: "Pratibimba" barthwal.pratibimba@yahoo.co.uk   pratibimba.barthwal

Tue Jul 22, 2008 8:47 pm (PDT)

Hi following article is just for you ppl to have some information's on
calorie in food serving.. It might be a help you to u keep you healthy.
Thx
Pratibimba Barthwal
Abu Dhabi, UAE

If you really want to know how nutritious your breakfast cereal or
microwaveable dinner is, then check out the food label. But you'd better
read carefully, or you could wind up consuming more calories and fat than
you think.
"The biggest mistake people make is not looking at the serving size," says
nutritionist Robin Vitetta-Miller. "They say, 'Oh wow, this only has 100
calories' and they eat the whole thing, and it turns out to serve four."
The serving size is listed directly under the nutrition facts on the food
packaging. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the
serving size is the first place to look because it influences all the
nutrient amounts listed below it.
Serving sizes are supposed to be based on the amount of food people
typically eat. But when looking at the serving size, you should compare that
to how much you actually eat. Take Vitetta-Miller's "favorite food," which
is a Tootsie Roll bar (not the tiny bite-sized ones). You might not consider
sharing that. But inside that wrapper, there are actually two servings.
"Breakfast cereal is another great example," Vitetta-Miller says.
Three-quarters cup or one-half cup is one serving for some brands, yet most
bowls holds two cups."
Food labels are broken into two parts: what you should limit (total fat,
cholesterol, sodium, total carbohydrates and protein) and what you should
get enough of (vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium and iron).
What's that about the fat?
Consumers often get stumped by labeling data on fat content. Vitetta-Miller
says it can get very confusing when trying to figure out the percentage of
calories you get from fat. "Don't look at that. It's just confusing to
figure out how much fat you're getting overall. Just try to keep your fat
grams down. Less than 30 percent of your total calories should come from fat
"
Just what is the difference between fat-free, reduced fat and low-fat?
According to the FDA:
Fat-free is less than one-half gram of fat per serving.
Low-fat is 3 grams of fat or less per serving.
Reduced fat is 25 percent less of the specific nutrient or calories than the
usual product.
Light is one-third fewer calories or one-half the fat of the usual food.
Even if you do understand the difference, you could fall into the fat-free
trap, according to Vitetta-Miller. For one thing, she says, it's a proven
fact that people eat more than they should of fat-free foods just because
these items are fat-free. For another, a lot of fat-free foods have a lot of
added sugar.
"Read the ingredient list," she advises, cautioning against choosing
products that substitute sugar for fat. "You don't want a lot of sugar in
your diet."
Manufacturers list total fat and the percentage of saturated fats along with
Trans fatty acids, or Trans fats. Trans fats raise your bad (LDL)
cholesterol levels and lower your good (HDL) cholesterol levels. Eating
Trans fats increases your risk of developing heart disease and stroke.
Experts recommend that you replace saturated and Trans fats in your diet
with mono- and polyunsaturated fats. These fats do not raise LDL (or "bad")
cholesterol levels and have health benefits when eaten in moderation.
"You may need to do detective work and look for hydrogenated oils,"
Vitetta-Miller says. Hydrogenated oils, which are Trans-fatty acids, are
often found in margarine, prepared baked goods such as muffins, cakes, pie
crusts and microwave popcorn.
One more word of advice as you scan food labels: Your box of fortified
cereal may promise 100 percent of the daily vitamins you need, but if you
don't drink all the cereal milk, those vitamins could wind up in the bottom
of the bowl. The reason? Vitamins are water soluble, Vitetta-Miller says.
What do the claims mean?
Below is a list of some other common claims seen on food packaging and what
these claims mean, according to the FDA regulations:
Calorie-free: fewer than five calories per serving (which is specified on
packaging)
Low sodium: less than 140 mg of salt per serving
Low calorie: less than 40 calories per serving
Low cholesterol: less than 20 mg of cholesterol and 2 grams of fat per
serving
Reduced: 25 percent less of the specified nutrient or calories than the
usual product
Good source of: provides at least 10 percent of the daily value of a
particular vitamin or nutrient per serving
High fiber: five or more grams of fiber per serving
Lean: (meat, poultry, seafood): 10 grams of fat or less, 4and one-half grams
of saturated fat and less than 95 mg of cholesterol per 3-and-one-half-ounce
serving
Light: one-third fewer calories or one-half the fat of the usual food

elephant story

Posted by: "Basuanand Gauridatt Kandpal" basukandpal@gmail.com

Tue Jul 22, 2008 8:47 pm (PDT)

Dear all,

This is a true story from Nothern region of Thiland

As I was passing the elephants, I suddenly stopped, confused by the fact
that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their
front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at
anytime, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.

I saw a trainer near by and asked why these beautiful, magnificent animals
just stood there and made no attempt to get away. "Well," he said, "when
they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them
and, at that age, it's enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are
conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can
still hold them, so they never try to break free."

I was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds
but because they believed they couldn't, they were stuck right where they
were.

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief
that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before?

Thank you for the invitation.   I would like to share this reply with the Dhumakot Sangliya International Group which is considering Dhumakot Sangliya as an experiment taking Uttarakhand as a laboratory.  Uttarakhand is a small state with five loksabha and three Rajya Sabha members.  The NRIs belonging to Uttarakhand  are part of the NRI community.

There is Gopio America.  The NRI community forms a part of Gopio.  There are many organisations of Indians in America who want to help the land of their origin.  This group knows that the Uttarakhand community  in North America is divided in three groups.

We do not take sides.  First Dr Bhandari  wanted to remove his name from the Dhumakot Sangliya Group.  I tried to pursuade him to continue.  He insisted.  We did not remove his name.  Some time after I received a mail from Mrs Pant quoting Rajiv Rawat's advice to us.
We had not seen the orginal mail.  Rajiv Rawat controls his group and sensors our mail.  This we  had noted from long.  Then came a series of requests from people like Prabhu Negi, Deepak Nautiyal etc.  We sensed some problem between UANA and Dhumakot Sangliya International Group.  We were trying to find what was this problem, then came a news item from Raju Gusain.  Finally we received a note from the Bhandari UANA charging us taking sides.

The whole issue was discussed in Gumod Parikrama which I write daily in Hindi and Dev Singh Rawat publishes it as column Phatte ki Sarkar in his Newspaper Pyara Uttarakhand.  In one of the issues I compared the taking over of UANA by a part as coup in Pakistan.

Raju Gusain had warned Khanduriji about the problem he was going to face when he participates in the function you are organising.  Mrs Khanduri is really unwell.  I had a talk with her recently on telephone.
His cancellation of the visit may or may not be a diplomacy.  But Dhumakot Sangliya International Group is  an open platform.

I have included Dr Bhandari in this list again.  He had changed his id when we did not stop sending him the messages.

We wish you and the remaining two groups of NRIs of Uttarakhand origin in North America.

Safety tips for women-Please read and forward

Posted by: "atul pant" pantatul@yahoo.com   pantatul

Mon Jul 21, 2008 11:31 am (PDT)

In daylight hours, refresh yourself of these things to do in an emergency situation...
This is for you, and for you to share with your spouse, your children, everyone you know.
After reading these 9 crucial tips , forward them to someone you care about. It never hurts to be careful in this crazy world we live in.

1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do :
The elbow is the strongest point on your body.
If you are close enough to use it, do!

2. Learned this from a tourist guide in New Orleans
If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse,
DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM .
Toss it away from you....
chances are that he is more interested
in your wallet and/or purse than you,
and he will go for the wallet/purse.
RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!
3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car,
kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole
and start waving like crazy.
The driver won't see you, but everybody else will.
This has saved lives.

4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars
after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit
(doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc.
DON'T DO THIS!)
The predator will be watching you, and this
is the perfect opportunity for him to get in
on the passenger side, put a gun to your head,
and tell you where to go.
AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR ,
LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.

If someone
is in the car
with a gun
to your head
DO NOT DRIVEOFF,
repeat:
DO NOT DRIVEOFF!
Instead gun the engine
and speed into anything, wrecking the car.
Your Air Bag will save you.
If the person is in the back seat
they will get the worst of it .
As soon as the car crashes
bail out and run.
It is better than having them find your body
in a remote location.

5. A few notes about getting
into your car in a parking lot,
or parking garage:
A.) Be aware:
look around you,
look into your car,
at the passenger side floor ,
and in the back seat
B.) If you are parked next to a big van,
enter your car from the passenger door .
Most serial killers attack their victims
by pulling them into their vans while the women
are attempting to get into their cars.
C.) Look at the car
parked on the driver's side of your vehicle,
and the passenger side.. If a male is sitting alone
in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back
into the mall, or work, and get a
guard/policeman to walk you back out.
IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)

6. ALWAYS take the elevator
instead of the stairs.
(Stairwells are horrible places to be alone
and the perfect crime spot.
This is especially true at NIGHT!)

7. If the predator has a gun
and you are not under his control,
ALWAYS RUN!
The predator will only hit you (a running target)
4 in 100 times; And even then,
it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ.
RUN, Preferably in a zig -zag pattern!

8. As women, we are always trying
to be sympathetic:
STOP
It may get you raped, or killed.
Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking,
well educated man, who ALWAYS played
on the sympathies of unsuspecting women.
He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often
asked "for help" into his vehicle or with his vehicle,
which is when he abducted
his next victim.

9. Another Safety Point:
Someone just told me that her friend heard
a crying baby on her porch the night before last,
and she called the police because it was late
and she thought it was weird. The police told her
"Whatever you do, DO NOT
open the door."
The lady then said that it sounded like the baby
had crawled near a window, and she was worried
that it would crawl to the street and get run over.
The policeman said, "We already have a unit on the way,
whatever you do, DO NOT open the door."
He told her that they think a serial killer
has a baby's cry recorded and uses it to coax
women out of their homes thinking that someone
dropped off a baby He said they have not verified it,
but have had several calls by women saying that
they hear baby's cries outside their doors
when they're home alone at night.

Please pass this on and DO NOT open the door
for a crying baby ----
This e-mail should probably be taken seriously because
the Crying Baby theory was mentioned on
America 's Most Wanted this past Saturday when they profiled
the serial killer in Louisiana

I'd like you to forward this to all the women you know.
It may save a life. A candle is not dimmed by lighting another candle.
I was going to send this to the ladies only,
but guys, if you love your mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, etc.,
you may want to pass it onto them, as well.

Send this to any woman you know that may need
to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it
and it's better to be safe than sorry..
Everyone should take 5 minutes to read this. It may save your life or love one's life!

Don't we all ???

Posted by: "atul pant" pantatul@yahoo.com   pantatul

Mon Jul 21, 2008 11:34 am (PDT)

I was parked in front of the mall wiping off my car. I had just come from the car wash and was waiting for my wife to get out of work. Coming my way from across the parking lot was what society would consider a bum.
From the looks of him, he had no car, no home, no clean clothes, and no
money. There are times when you feel generous but there are other times that you just don't want to be bothered. This was one of those "don't want to be bothered times."
"I hope he doesn't ask me for any money," I thought. He didn't.
He came and sat on the curb in front of the bus stop but he didn't look
like he could have enough money to even ride the bus.
After a few minutes he spoke. "That's a very pretty car," he said.

He was ragged but he had an air of dignity around him. His scraggly
blond beard keep more than his face warm.
I said, "thanks," and continued wiping off my car.
He sat there quietly as I worked. The expected plea for money never
came.
As the silence between us widened something inside said, "ask him if
he needs any help." I was sure that he would say "yes" but I held true
to the inner voice.
"Do you need any help?" I asked.
He answered in three simple but profound words that I shall never forget.
We often look for wisdom in great men and women. We expect it from
those of higher learning and accomplishments.
I expected nothing but an outstretched grimy hand. He spoke the three words that shook me. "Don't we all?" he said.
I was feeling high and mighty, successful and important, above a bum
in the street, until those three words hit me like a twelve gauge
shotgun. Don't we all?
I needed help. Maybe not for bus fare or a place to sleep, but I
needed help. I reached in my wallet and gave him not only enough for bus fare, but enough to get a warm meal and shelter for the day. Those
three little words still ring true. No matter how much you have, no matter how much you have accomplished, you need help too. No matter how little you have, no matter how loaded you are with problems, even without money or a place to sleep, you can give help.
Even if it's just a compliment, you can give that.
You never know when you may see someone that appears to have it all.
They are waiting on you to give them what they don't have. A different
perspective on life, a glimpse at something beautiful, a respite from
daily chaos, that only you through a torn world can see.
Maybe the man was just a homeless stranger wandering the streets. Maybe he was more than that.
Maybe he was sent by a power that is great and wise, to minister to a soul too comfortable in themselves.
Maybe God looked down, called an Angel, dressed him like a bum, then said, "go minister to that man cleaning the car, that man needs help."

Don't we all?

ONE OF THE BEST STORIES .

Posted by: "atul pant" pantatul@yahoo.com   pantatul

Mon Jul 21, 2008 11:40 am (PDT)

..

ONE OF THE BEST STORIES . . .

As she stood in front of her 5th grade class on the very first
day of school, she told the children an untruth. Like most teachers, she looked
at her students and said that she loved them all the same. However, that
was impossible, because there in the front row, slumped in his seat, was a
little boy named Teddy Stoddard

Mrs.. Thompson had watched Teddy the year before and noticed
that he did not play well with the other children, that his clothes were
messy and that he constantly needed a bath. In addition, Teddy could be
unpleasant. It got to the point where Mrs. Thompson would actually take
delight in marking his papers with a broad red pen, making bold X's and
then putting a big 'F' at the top of his papers.

At the school where Mrs. Thompson taught, she was required to
review each child's past records and she put Teddy's off until last.
However, when she reviewed his file, she was in for a surprise.

Teddy's first grade teacher wrote, 'Teddy is a bright
child with a ready laugh. He does his work neatly and has good manners...
he is a joy to be around..'

His second grade teacher wrote, 'Teddy is an excellent
student, well liked by his classmates, but he is troubled because his
mother has a terminal illness and life at home must be a struggle.'

His third grade teacher wrote, 'His mother's death has
been hard on him. He tries to do his best, but his father doesn't show much
interest, and his home life will soon affect him if some steps aren't
taken.'

Teddy's fourth grade teacher wrote, 'Teddy is withdrawn
and doesn't show much interest in school. He doesn't have many friends and
he sometimes sleeps in class.'

By now, Mrs. Thompson realized the problem and she was ashamed
of herself. She felt even worse when her students brought her Christmas
presents, wrapped in beautiful ribbons and bright paper, except f or
Teddy's. His present was clumsily wrapped in the heavy, brown paper that he
got from a grocery bag.. Mrs. Thompson took pains to open it in the middle
of the other presents. Some of the children started to laugh when she found
a rhinestone bracelet with some of the stones missing, and a bottle that
was one-quarter full of perfume. But she stifled the children's laughter
when she exclaimed how pretty the bracelet was, putting it on, and dabbing
some of the perfume on her wrist. Teddy Stoddard stayed after school that
day just long enough to say, 'Mrs. Thompson, today you smelled just
like my Mom used to.'

After the children left, she cried for at least an hour. On
that very day, she quit teaching, reading, writing and arithmetic. Instead,
she began to teach children. Mrs. Thompson paid particular attention to Teddy.
As she worked with him, his mind seemed to come alive. The more she
encouraged him, the faster he responded. By the end of the year, Teddy had
become one of the smartest children in the class and, despite her lie that
she would love all the children the same, Teddy became one of her
'teacher's pets..'

A year later, she found a note under her door, from Teddy,
telling her that she was the best teacher he ever had in his whole life.

Six years went by before she got another note from Teddy. He
then wrote that he had finished high school, third in his class, and she
was still the best teacher he ever had in life.

Four years after that, she got another letter, saying that
while things had been tough at times, he'd stayed in school, had stuck with
it, and would soon graduate from college with the highest of honours. He
assured Mrs. Thompson that she was still the best and favourite teacher he
had ever had in his whole life.

Then four more years passed and yet another letter came. This time
he explained that after he got his bachelor's degree, he decided to go a
little further. The letter explained that she was still the best and
favourite teacher he ever had.. But now his name was a little longer.... The
letter was signed, Theodore F. Stoddard, MD.

The story does not end there. You see, there was yet another
letter that spring. Teddy said he had met this girl and was going to be
married. He explained that his father had died a couple of years ago and he
was wondering if Mrs. Thompson might agree to sit at the wedding in the
place that was usually reserved for the mother of the groom.. Of course,
Mrs. Thompson did. And guess what? She wore that bracelet, the one with
several rhinestones missing. Moreover, she made sure she was wearing the
perfume that Teddy remembered his mother wearing on their last Christmas
together.

They hugged each other, and Dr Stoddard whispered in Mrs. Thompson's ear, 'Thank you
Mrs. Thompson for believing in me. Thank you so much for making me feel
important and showing me that I could make a difference.'

Mrs. Thompson, with tears in her eyes, whispered back. She
said, 'Teddy, you have it all wrong. You were the one who taught me
that I could make a difference. I didn't know how to teach until I met
you.'

(For you that don't know, Teddy Stoddard is the Dr. at Iowa Methodist in
Des Moines that has the Stoddard Cancer Wing.)

Warm someone's heart today. . pass this along. I love this
story so very much, I cry every time I read it. Just try to make a difference
in someone's life today? tomorrow? just 'do it'.

Random acts of kindness, I think they call it!

'Believe in Angels, then return the favour'

Hello Ramprasadji!
How are you doing? I have read this email. This mentions Dr. Bhakuni's name. He happens to be my maternal uncle. He was here in May visiting us. I think he and his wife are doing a fabulous job in running their "Gyan Project" for poor village kids. He has helped his other relatives as well. He regularly joins the functions of uttaranchal group . I don't know what do you mean by saying that he has not been active in north america. I am forwarding this message to him as well. Let's see what he thinks about this.
Thanks

Subject: [Uttaranchal.ws] NRIs of Uttarakhand and development of the state

To

Uttarakhand Groups on Internet

Dhumakot Sangliya groups on internet are devoted exclusively to a single project that has been there for forty years.  Approach is global and the focus is local.

The NRIs from Uttarakhand are as important people are as important in North America  as from any other Indian State.  Dr Bhakuni rose to a very important position in Good Year.  He has invested his earnings on the Gyan Project in Uttarakhand.  Dr NS Kapany is a Dehra Dun boy who is recognised as the inventor of fibre optics and these fibres were used in his work by Dr Basant Tariyal to rise to a very high position in communication field.  He is the Chief of the Ekal Vidyalaya Sangthan which works in all parts of the World.  Dr Kailash Joshi is known in the Silicon valley as organiser of TIE which is spread world over.

But these people eccept Dr Tariyal have not been active in activities of of Indian organisations in North America.  They have concentrate on local activities related to Uttarakhand.  Uttarakhand Association of North America was organised in 1998 while the Gopio which is the global representative of NRIs had started work from 1989.

Today the UANA stands divided in to threee groups.  The Canadian Uttarakhandis had a separate organisation for quite some time and only a few months back UANA has divided itself into to UANAs.  One is the Uttarakhand Association of North America and the other continues with the old name.

Dhumakot Sangliya International Group has been active for a few years.  It is working for removing the hurdles that came in the way of the lens project in Uttarakhand that was initiated forty years ago.  For this purpose we are taking Dhumakot Sangliya project as an experiment in the laboratory of Uttarakhand.  This is being discussed in all forums world over.  This project insists that the rural poverty cannot be tackled by the industrial approach or eBusiness alone.  It requires iBusiness and the Uttarakhand project is a pioneering technological nursery.    Unfortunately most of Uttarakhandis in UANA do not take the matter seriously.  They even tried to block the mails just as Uttarayani organisation of Uttarakhandi officers is doing currently.

Kindly let us know your views about the division among NRIs belonging to Uttarakhand in North America.

Ram Prasad

Hi
This is ridiculous & I appreciate that you bring this point in loop !!!
there are several incidents which have been occured in past & situation is going on...
We can not do any thing at that fatal point. All these bunch of crooks stand overthere and if any one want to raise the question against this stupidity then these innocent peoples are beated by them...

I don't know why the roadways govt. is not taking any action regarding this !!!

Friends lot to mention when we talk about public transport facility in our very own UK.

I keep traveling to my hometown as my parents are there. However, everytime I feel like going home something stops me is just because of poor transport facility. Lack of good systematic approach by transport department in UK. I would not like to take too much time of yours. Just to site an example where Govt roadways drives have been asked to stop their buses to those poor 'Dhabas' where they just loot and don't provide good meals/snacks at all and charges are extreme high. Although this initiative will curb on the special settings which some bad ppl in transport department have done with dhaba owners, but prime concern should have been good quality food and not this initiative which will again lead to normal loot. The difference now is that it is official to loot now.

See this attached picture.
