Harmonium

Troubled Galaxy Destroyed Dreams: Chapter 17

Palash Biswas

http://troubledgalaxydetroyeddreams.blogspot.com/

My real life story has become like an old Harmonium with broken
Reeds. The melodies are lost for ever. Only remains the longing for
the stolen rhythm.

My childhood may be symbolised with the family Harmonium which
Meeradi got from his British God Father. The British couple had lost
their only child, a daughter and her face resembled with Meeradi.
They wanted to adopt her.At that time, she was the only child in the
family. simply, the family was not ready to part away with the little
girl. The British couple gifted her the harmonium which stayed with
us until Meeradi was married off.

A Harmonium is a free-standing musical keyboard instrument similar to
a Reed Organ or Pipe Organ. It consists of free reeds and sound is
produced by air being blown through reeds resulting in a sound
similar to that of an accordion. The air is supplied by foot-operated
(or, as with the type of harmonium used in Indian music, hand-
operated) bellows alternately depressed by the player.

The British introduced harmoniums to India during the colonial
period. In North America, the most common pedal-pumped free reed
keyboard instrument is known as the American Reed Organ, (or parlor
organ, pump organ, cabinet organ, cottage organ, etc.) and along with
the earlier Melodee, is operated by a suction bellows where air is
sucked through the reeds to produce the sound. A reed organ with a
pressure bellows, that pushes the air through the reeds, is referred
to as a harmonium.

In much of Europe, the term "harmonium" is used to describe all pedal
pumped keyboard free reed instruments, making no distinction whether
it has a pressure or suction bellows.

The harmonium reminds me of lost days, lost relations, lost fabrics
of festivals and our folk. It was the rare property we possessed in
those days. As our people never accessed to harmonium in east Bengal
Indigenous days . Harmonium was captured by Caste Hindu lower middle
class. The unmarried girls used to do all the home works of Nazrul
Geeti, Rabindra Sangeet and Palli Sangeet with Harmonium. In those
days, while the indigenous SC ST communities were associated with
aboriginal life style, tribal or semi tribal, full of totems and
taboos. We had rarely any culture Heroes to break away with the
supernatural superstitious lifestyle which believed only in Myths,
most of which they created themselves. With Colonial rule, capitalism
entered in British India. With world wars and famines, Imperialism
took over. But our people were associated with the feudal production
system as bonded labour with indigenous social structure.

They were over engaged with indigenous gods and goddesses and their
reincarnations, supernatural powers represented by totems. Taboos
were never broken as they were over engaged with their aboriginal
rituals dedicated to supernatural powers surrounding. They carried
the tradition with Charak, Ashtak Gaan, Banodevi, Panchoo Pencha,
Tennath, Gajan, Gaasi, Doljatra, Manasa, Raksha Kali, Bhasan,
Ramjatra, Kirtan, Baruni,Neem Mahotsav, Jaagar, Jatra, Bhasaan and
Kavigaan.

In East Bengal they had different musical instruments. Indigenous
communities were out casted and were never the part of the
mainstream.

They never cared for anything except food and clothing. They were
deprived of education. They never cared for inflation or price rise
as their purchasing capacity was associated with their labour in a
feudal production system which became quiet systematic with permanent
land settlement.

They depended much on the supernatural element and everything in
their life was mythical or semi mythical. They could not think beyond
their masters mainly the Brahmins and kayastah and sometimes OBC, as
it happened in Raard Bengal across Padma and well portrayed in the
epic works of Tara Shankar Bandopadhyaya.

Thus, harmonium was the musical Instrument possessed by the Ruling
Class. In my childhood, we witnessed daily events of bartering as you
may read in Aranyak by Bibhuti Bhushan Bandopadhyaya. Our people, at
the time of resettlement in Terai, were mostly illiterate as they
were in East Bengal. Some were semi literate . they hardly knew
anything about purchasing or monetary transaction.

Market and commodity values were beyond their aboriginal capacity.
So, they could part with kilos of rice or oil seeds just for a comb
or an ice cream! For the first time, they happened to be the master
of their harvest. it rather encouraged them to enter in the market.
And the markets for the refugees in the Terai of Nainital were the
weekly Hats in Dinesh Pur and Shaktifarm which were hardly did away
with bartering system.

Later, in 1979, having appeared in M.A. final , I had an opportunity
to work for a Hindi Weekly Laghu Bharat, published from Sitarganj in
Terai. It was a good town. Punjabi and Marwari communities with Sikh
businessmen were dominant. But the rural areas were inhibited by the
tribal Tharus. Shaktifarm was about nine KM away.

There was no road link between Shaktifarm. Even in eighties the
Shaktifarm refugees hardly knew any city besides Sitarganj. The area
was also linked with Bareilly and Pilibhit districts. Sitarganj was
the main commodity market and it had one of the biggest Mandies,
market for Cereals. But Sitarganj had not any Highschool for long
time. Nankmatta, a Sikh prominent area surrounded by the Tharus and
Khatema, totally Tharu dominated area had their Inter Colleges
earlier.

I asked Keval Krishna Dhal,`What is the matter?'

He replied,` It is as simple as a solved riddle. We can send our
children away for education and they would never be deprived. The
Tharus can`t afford. If they have an Inter College right here, they
would get educated. The bartering system would be vanished and it
would be rather very hard to capture their land and their harvest.'

I never saw East Bengal.I was born and brought up in Terai. but I got
the essential lesson in Sitarganj to understand the ruling Class
psyche.

Since the most of the Dineshpur refugees belonged to the Matua sect
of Faridpur. Matuas were taught by Guruchand Thakur, the Guru, to do
anything for education. His slogan was : Eat or don`t eat, Send your
children to the School. They established thousands of educational
institutions for the indigenous people in East Bengal. Ishwar chandra
Vidyasagar is well known to have established some educational
institutions only reserved for the High Caste children. He is also
known for woman`s education drive. But the Caste Hindu history of
Bengal never mention the names of Harichand and Guruchand who led
the education and woman`s lib movement in East Bengal.

Our people carried the movement in Terai. The result of 1956 movement
was not limited to rehabilitation and settlement only. they ensured
to get a Junior High School and Industrial Training Institute in
Dineshpur with a Health care unit and a post office. The Junior High
school was up grated to Intermediate college very soon. Thus, our
people changed very soon. The older generation sticked with
supernaturals , taboos and totems. But the younger ones identified
themselves with the mainstream class divided capitalist system. So
much so, that they gave away the aboriginal, indigenous and caste
Identity. It was an eternal slavery, of course. They hardly mentioned
out caste status.

Al though the caste system prevailed with the spontaneous leadership
of Brahmins. But our people found that they were no more out caste or
untouchables. They were very much into the mainstream. Though they
adopted Hindi medium for their education and day to day
communication, they identified themselves with Netaji, Bankim,
Tagore, Sharat and Vivekanand.

As a child, I was somewhat astonished to find high class Bengali
literature in abundance in quite illiterate families. They made the
arrangement for their identity as Bengali. The local communities
digested the new identity and even the leadership of the Bengal
refugees. Thus, my father could be elected as the Vice President of
Terai Vikas Sahkari Sangh unopposed in a Punjabi dominated area.

It happened everywhere. Our people learnt Assamese, Marathi, Tamil,
Telugu, Hindi, Bhojpuri and Maithili, Chhattisgadhi, Oria and every
local language and adopted the relevant language as the medium of
education and communication. They never exposed themselevs as out
caste or lower castes, dalits or tribals. Thus, they never demanded
for constitutional reservation as they felt liberated fro the bonded
slavery of East Bengal based caste system. Rather, my father and his
follower Nityanand Mallick faced stiff resistance as they insisted
for SC ST OBC status for the refugees settled countrywide.

Since, the resettled partition victim refugees identified themselves
with the mainstream Bangla Nationality, everywhere they launched
movements demanding Bengali Medium.

They succeeded in Orissa and Maharashtra.

But in the districts of Kachhar and Hilakandi in Assam, they had to
bleed to sustain Bengali identity. Bhasha Andolan in Assam was
followed by anti Bengali riots in Assam in 1960.

It is not a coincidence that my father Pulin Babu was arrested from
a Bhasha Andolan procession in Dhaka and later, he landed in Assam to
stand with the suffering riot torn Bengali refugees.

In those days of fifties, nearly every Bengali colony managed to run
Bengali medium school. I was among the few students who got admission
in Haridaspur primary pathshala.

After Meeradi and Debaladi, Debala`s sister Kamala, a very beautiful
girl and one or two year senior accompanied me. Later, another girl
Geeta was admitted in Haridashpur.

Rest of the Children were studying in the unrecognised Bengali medium
Basantipur Primary Pathshala.

Aboni Kaka and Atul Kaka were orphans and were adopted by our
family. Atul kaka got rehabilitation with a fake wife named Tulsi
before getting married. He got married in Haridashpur in a Barishal
district family and the aunt was renamed as Tulsi. We and even she
forgot her original name very soon.

Aboni Kaka passed class eight from junior High School Dineshpur. My
father was his declared guardian and Chhoto Kaka helped him in his
homework.Father wanted to continue Aboni kaka`s education and
Chhotokaka supported.

I may visualise the scene of arguments.

Aboni kaka was selected as the teacher of the Bengali school in
Basantipur and wanted the job. While I was reading in class two, Aboni
kaka was married.

Aboni Kaka was married in Anandkhera number two. His in laws
belonged to Barishal.

I was one among the marriage party and fell asleep in the moonlit
night.I was awaken in the dawn as we had to leave the place on
auspicious time.

The new aunt was educated. Say, better educated as she had passed
class six. She was able to replace Aboni Kaka while he used to be
away with his jatra engagement.

Aboni Kaka was very handsome. In fact, in those days of sixties ,
our jtar Party was very popular with artists like Aboni Kaka, kartik
Sana,Hajoo Sana, Mahendra and others. These four young men also tried
for an entry in Bollywood. They were fans of Bollywood star Ranjan.
They learnt Fencing. In all our dramas, the most attractive part was
fencing.

Aboni kaka and the aunt got lots of Novels. I was the keen reader. I
learnt Bengali very soon. I began reading novels besides detective
stories as earlier as in class three. I had to learn English at home.
I got through the treasure of my Chhotokaka.

Very soon I became a fan of Alexander Dumas reading his novels like
Count of Monte Christos and The Man and the Iron Mask. these were not
the editions meant for children which I accessed in Nainital.

I was habitual to read the classics like Good Earth, Mother, War and
Peace, Adventure of Tom Sayer, Lost world, Kidnapped, Forsite Saga,
Growth of the Soil, Hunch Back of Notredam and so on during my
primary schooling. I repent that I did not know Shakespeare or
Charles Dickens in those days.

Well, Bankim with Anandmath, Bish Briksha or Raj Singh or Rajni was
at home.

We were encouraged to read Bankim, Satendra Nath Dutt, Michael
Madhusudan Dutta, Tagore and Nazrul. in fact, we were encouraged to
read them. Tagore and Nazrul were our parts of our daily recitations.
I am surprised to remember being unaware of Jasmuddinn and his
classics like Nakshi Kathar Math and Sojan Badiar Gaht which strongly
depict indigenous life and livelihood.

In fact, our people left behind the geography and history and they
did not want to go back to the roots in their new found Geo Politics.

Thanks to Abonikaka and specially, the new aunt, I was introduced to
Shailajanad Mukhopadhyaa, Falguni Mukhopadhyaya, Prabhawati debi
Saraswati and specially to Sharat Chandra, Bimal Mitra and Samresh
Basu. I read Kari diye Kinlam by Bimal Mitra and all the works of
Sharat Chandra very soon.

The result was inevitable Calf Love.

Just passing Primary in 1967, I was engaged with Calf love as all
kinds of novels pumped me for that.

But, in those days, belonging to the most powerful refugee families,
we have relations in every village as the people made my father their
God father so often.

The tragedy was that the most beautiful girls were from those
families falling in relation.

Basantipur was in itself like a joint family.

I had no other option to pick the heroines for my fertile
imaginations from my classmates, most of which were quite unaware of
my fantasies!

The new aunt was very friendly to my mother as she also belonged to
Barishal. The two ladies would chat in their peculiar Barishal
dialect round the clock.

Aboni kaka did BTC training and when Basantipur became a Hindi medium
Parimari pathshala recognised , he became the first teacher there.

My friends Tekka, Vivek, Panchoo Dhali and Hari used to read there.
While I got Krishna, the son of our President Mandar Mandal with us.
He had been in West Bengal.

Mandar Babu always believed that the Hindi medium schools are
substandard in comparison to West Bengal School.

Krishna was sent away to Shyam Nagar in 24 Parganas, now a busy
suburb of Metro kolkata.

But in intense days of Food Movement and Kallol days in West Bengal,
Krishna returned to Basantipur with Club Culture, until unknown to us
and foot ball.

Krishna was senior to me. But he spent two years in Bengali school
in West Bengal. He was admitted in Haridashpur school in class three
while I was reading in class four.

Rabindra was in class five. He was also addicted of story books as I
was.

Two of us were very friendly until he wrote something very slang
against Aboni kaka on the interior wall with left chalk. I dictated
and ultimately Abonikaka detected the culprit.

I was very annoyed with Rabindra`s digestion.

But I could not discard him as he had a good stock of story books.

In the same way, I befriended with Deepti Sundar Mallick of
Panchananpur and the most popular child artist in Jatra and ashtak
gaan in Terai in those days. While I got admission in class six, he
was a student of class seven.

Parhlad Bairagi from Chittaranjan pur and Hare Krishna Dhali from
Sunderpur were his classmates.

The common factor in these three senor students was their love for
music.

Hare Krishna pursued Music in Graduation later. He was also a very
popular child artist in Terai in sixties.

Prahlad was a singer. We called him Mohmmad Rafi. He could present
musical film dramas with awesome accuracy. He was most popular in our
days. Prahlad had lost his one eye while travelling in a train led by
Coal fed Engine. but he seemed very attractive with his musical
skills. I preferred him for his story telling skill.

My Thamma was also a very good story teller. but she always dealt
with myths, superstitions and fairy tales. I was grown so earlier
that these stories full of unnatural characters hardly attract me.

Thus,in post modern times I pity those children being fond of Harry
Potter. We left Thakumar Jhooli so soon and got over all the trashes
of detective stories. In my Junior School days I was a keen reader of
novels and political theories also.

But it was me who diverted my school route while returning from
Dinesh pur via Panchanan Pur and Chittaranjanpur crossing at least
three rivers for the company of Deepti and Prahlad.

In Haridaspur Primary Pathsahla, I had been the most favourite
student of the Head master, Pitambar Pant.

I was made Monitor of the school in class five but I led the
children while I was reading in class three.

Even I could challenge the examination results and often expressed my
dissatisfaction while my friends failed. For this I always invited
quite a good thrashing at home as well as in the school.

There had been a Bengali assistant teacher all the time, but I always
neglected his presence.Later, in Dineshpur High school, Govt. Inter
mediate college of Nainital and also in DSB college

I never spared any teacher or lecturer failing to convince me.

For them, I had been alwasy a terrifying trouble which they hardly
could avoid.

Only Pitambar Pant in haridaspur and JC Pant in GIC Nainital could
tame me.

I was particularly very harsh against teachers and lecturers from
Hindi and English departments as I was never satisfied with their
knowledge.

But at the same time , I was most popular in the departments like
Economics, History, Sociology, Botany, Political science, Chemistry,
Physics and Mathemetics and I often befriended with lecturers and
professors there.

Now I understand that my addiction with books diviated me from being
tamed, subordinate and disciplined. I was always habitual to question
anything.

This questioning made me quite outstanding in every level of my
education.

Unfortunately I could not give up the character and face the unwanted
consequences.

Two Brahmin boys, Pagla and Sunu from the Chakrabarti family had been
my best friend in my childhood.

But I never accepted their superiority in caste status.

When they got their sacred thread Janeu, the Paita, enabling them to
perform our rituals, I never cared to bow before them on any occasion.

Pagla was very clever and Sunu very innocent.

But I was able to horrify both of them as they boast of their
sanctity as Brahmin.I blasted the Myth with practical jokes like
invoking spirits.

Both of them had to face my terrible wrath whenever they dared to
pose superior to me. It could be a real torture or simply a good
thrashing. I was punished for this crime for so many times.

But the two brothers always remained my friends.

They gave up their studies in the Primary school as they had to help
their father to perform rituals.

In Terai, there was a very small percentage of Bengali Brahmins
as most of the Brahmins had been accommodated in west Bengal.

Only the poorest lot of them, particularly who were despised by the
elite Brahmins for performing rituals for the outcasts and lower
castes.

Though we had Chatterjee, Mukherjee, Chkarabrti titles amongst the
refugees, but they were no better than us.

This convinced me most that ultimately, economy is the deciding
factor and the class affiliation is more important then caste
identity. it worked throughout my life until I landed in west Bengal
and faced the bitter most caste discrimination nearly finishing me
and closing all avenues for me!

Kamala di was married soon.

They were six or seven sisters in the family. By caste they were
barber.

In Terai,Barbers, Brahmins, Kayastha, Mahishya, Sadgope were very
rare. They had to marry away the daughters and they could not afford
to maintain any relation in Bengal. The best solution was arrangement
of marriage at spot anytime whenever they got a suitable bachelor.

Abala and Haridasi were the younger sisters. They also joined
Haridashpur school. but they also got married very soon before
passing primary.

I had Ranjeet in my class from Basantipur.

My Thamma and his Didima(mother`s mother) were very friendly.

This family was the only other family which belonged to our ancestral
village. His mother was treated as a sister of my father and uncles.

Ranjeet`s father committed suicide while we were infants. I only
remember my Uncle Chhotokaa, the only medical practicenor rushing to
Ranjeets home, His mother`s mourning and the death procession. It was
not a police case.

Basantipur people never allowed police in their community life.

The village Panchayat would settle everything. The tradition continues
even today.

Ranjeet was never a good student. I became his spontaneous guide. our
family looked after their cultivation in the beginning.

Then a Purbia, Vikram landed in the family to look after them.

Ranjeet had two sisters, Parul and Charu.

The name of Parul is quite rhythmic with may name Palash. Prafulla
dadababu, the husband of Debaladi who stayed with his in laws as he
was doing his ITI training in Dineshpur as a fitter, often would sing
aloud: Palash Parul tora soan..

The children were my legitimate playmates.

I spent most of the summer noons with either Pagla and Sunu or with
Ranjeet and his sisters.

But the villagers were annoyed with the presence of Vikram and they
objected.

For them, it was the cause of bad name as the Hindustani, as we used
to call the Hindi speaking people was staying with a widow after all.

Later, I realised my family was also fed up with my affection with
the family. They could have doubted the seeds of some romance in
Parul.

I never did smell anything wrong.

With the sisters, I was quite normal as a child playmate.I never
imagined anyone from the village and around to be my lover at any
level.

I was looking very high from the beginning.

But I am afraid to say that Basantipur people thought otherwise ans
my family was also scared of.

They arranged earlier marriage for the poor beautiful girl. I never
loved the girl. But she was my playmate.

It was a shock for me that she was married to a boy most
unsuitable.

The family was well off them.

The villagers expected that they would be able to drive away Vikram.
it did not happen.

Within six months, Parul was an estranged woman.

I lost my dearest playmates immediately.

Parul lost normal life.

She was second time married to Rampur.

But she could not settle there. Her life was tarns formed in a short
story of displacement and estrangement combined, the following days
were more horrifying.

Vikram was made to leave the village.

Rajnjeet was attacked by unknown visitors, he got broken his one leg
and became a lame permanently.

I was made to watch all this from outside.

I am sorry that I could not revolt at that stage of my childhood as I
was Reading only in class three.

The tragedy continued until Ranjeet became adult and took over
family affairs. By the time his Didma and mother expired.

Charu also followed disastrous married life.

I saw all these tragedies to happen in my village from Nainital but I
was not in a position to resist.

Later, I am happy to say that both the sisters have established
themselves with their families and children and are happy.

Only the two sisters got older very soon and never could overcome the
childhood tragedies caused by community life.

Whenever I Mention Basantipur as a model of community life, I feel a
thorn penetrating my heart.

Before Aboni kaka, there was another Aboni, landed in our family as
our teacher from West Bengal. He was a very handsome guy.Suddenly he
left.

Later, my Chhoto Pisi, youngest sister of my father, Sarala eloped
with a cutivation Help, Balai. She was a widow. Our family never
considered for her remarriage. She went to our fields near Aamrpur
carrying the Lunch and never returned.

No one remembered her.

Later in ninties, when I settled in West Bengal, our elder Pisi
enquired about her lost sister whether I knew anything about them.

I never knew.

The Older Aboni Kaka left our village abruptly. One day, looking for
some literature, I struck with a long love letter addressed to Aboni
Kaka and written by his girl friend from West Bengal.

I was so addicted with literature that it was a continuous search for
books. I could not change the habit even now. It was a real trouble
in my childhood. I managed a duplicate key and whenever, Aboni Kaka
and aunt stayed away, I used to break into their home and got some
book without failure.

I had to read the book in time and keep it in its place before the
couple returned. I had been safe always as Atul Kaka lived in the
fields.

Shaktifarm was established late. In 1960.

They had not any school.

My elder aunt Jethima was the only child of her parents and my mother
never revisited her father away in Orissa.

Boys from Shktifarm would always land in our family and were
accepted as Jethima`s brothers.

Jeeban Mama was the first one. He was followed by Radhika Mistry.

Jeeban mama is no more.

I saw his beautiful daughter succumbing in a Bareilly Hospital before
I reached Kolkata.

I never knew whereabouts of Radhika Mistry.

I remeber him as an artist illuminating our house on every
Janmashtami and creating artificial landscapes with hillocks and
springs.

Aboni Kaka is died of TB while I was working as a journalist in
Dhanbad in earlier eigties. His eldest son Pratap, a gradute replaced
him as a teacher. His younger brother Tapan is looking after
cultivation.

The New Aunt is old lady now and lost her vison. She may not read
anything. But she is always energitic while I seldom visit her. i
return to the days of my child hodd with the rhythm of broken reeds!

History

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harmonium

The harmonium was invented in Paris in 1842 by Alexandre Debain,
though there was concurrent development of similar instruments.
Christian Gottlieb Kratzenstein (1723-1795), Professor of Physiology
at Copenhagen, was credited with the first free reed to be made in
the western world after winning the annual prize in 1780 from the
Imperial Academy of St.Petersburg. [1]

Harmoniums reached the height of their popularity in the West in the
late 19th- and early-20th centuries. They were especially popular in
small churches and chapels where a pipe organ would be too large or
too expensive. Harmoniums generally weigh less than similarly-sized
pianos and are not as easily damaged in transport, thus they were
also popular throughout the colonies of the European powers in this
period- not only because it was easier to ship the instrument out to
where it was needed, but it was also easier to transport overland in
areas where good-quality roads and railways may have been non-
existent. An added attraction of the harmonium in tropical regions
was that the instrument held its tune regardless of heat and
humidity, unlike the piano. This 'export' market was sufficiently
lucrative for manufacturers to produce harmoniums with cases
impregnated with chemicals to prevent woodworm and other damaging
organisms found in the tropics.

At the peak of the instruments' popularity around 1900, a wide
variety of styles of harmoniums were being produced. These ranged
from simple models with plain cases and only 4 or 5 stops (if any at
all), up to large instruments with ornate cases, up to a dozen stops
and other mechanisms such as couplers. Expensive harmoniums were
often built to resemble pipe organs, with ranks of fake pipes
attached to the top of the instrument. Small numbers of harmoniums
were built with two manuals (keyboards). Some were even built with
pedal keyboards, which required the use of an assistant to run the
bellows or, for some of the later models, an electrical pump. These
larger instruments were mainly intended for home use, such as
allowing organists to practise on an instrument on the scale of a
pipe organ, but without the physical size or volume of such an
instrument. For missionaries, chaplains in the armed forces,
travelling evangelists, and the like, reed organs that folded up into
a container the size of a very large suitcase or small trunk were
made; these had a short keyboard and few stops, but they were more
than adequate for keeping hymn-singers more-or-less on pitch.

The invention of the electronic organ in the mid-1930s spelt the end
of the harmonium's success (although its popularity as a household
instrument declined in the 1920s as musical tastes changed). The
Hammond organ could imitate the tonal quality and range of a pipe
organ whilst retaining the compact dimensions and cost-effectiveness
of the harmonium whilst reducing maintenance needs and allowing a
greater number of stops and other features. By this time harmoniums
had reached high levels of mechanical complexity- not only through
the need to provide instruments with a greater tonal range, but
(especially in North America) due to patent laws. It was common for
manufacturers to patent the action mechanism used on their
instruments, thus requiring any new manufacturer to develop their own
version- as the number of manufacturers grew this led to some
instruments having hugely complex arrays of levers, cranks, rods and
shafts which made replacement with an electronic instrument even more
attractive.

The last mass-producer of harmoniums in the West was the Estey
company, which ceased manufacture in the mid-1950s. As the existing
stock of instruments aged and spare parts became hard to find, more
and more were either scrapped or sold. It was not uncommon for
harmoniums to be 'modernised' by having electric blowers fitted,
often very unsympathetically. The majority of harmoniums today are in
the hands of enthusiasts.

A relatively modern example of the use of a harmonium can be found in
The Beatles' hits "We Can Work It Out" and "Real Love".

[edit] Construction

Harmoniums consist of banks of brass reeds (metal tongues which
vibrate when air flows over them), a pumping apparatus, stops for
drones (some models feature a stop which causes a form of vibrato),
and a keyboard. The harmonium's timbre, despite its similarity to the
accordion's, is actually produced in a critically different way.
Instead of the bellows causing a direct flow of air over the reeds,
an external feeder bellows inflates an internal reservoir bellows
inside the harmonium from which air escapes to vibrate the reeds.
This design is similar to bagpipes as it allows the harmonium to
create a continuously sustained sound. (Some better-class harmoniums
of the 19th and early 20th centuries incorporated an "expression
stop" which bypassed the reservoir, allowing a skilled player to
regulate the strength of the air-flow directly from the pedal-
operated bellows and so to achieve a certain amount of direct control
over dynamics.) If a harmonium has two sets of reeds, it's possible
that the second set of reeds (either tuned unison or an octave lower)
can be activated by a stop, which means each key pressed will play
two reeds. Professional harmoniums feature a third set of reeds,
either tuned an octave higher or in unison to the middle reed. This
overall makes the sound fuller. In addition, many harmoniums feature
an octave coupler, a mechanical linkage that opens a valve for a note
an octave above or below the note being played, and a scale changing
mechanism, which allows one to play in various keys while fingering
the keys of one scale.

Harmoniums are made with 1, 2, 3 and occasionally 4 sets of reeds.
Classical instrumentalists usually use 1-reed harmoniums, while a
musician who plays for a qawaali (Islamic devotional singing) usually
uses a 3-reed harmonium.

[edit] The harmonium in India

Man playing a harmonium. He is pumping the bellows of the harmonium
with one hand and playing the keys with the other.
During the mid-19th century missionaries brought French-made hand-
pumped harmoniums to India. The instrument quickly became popular
there: it was portable, reliable and easy to learn. Its popularity
has stayed intact to the present day, and the harmonium remains an
important instrument in many genres of Indian music. It is commonly
found in Indian homes. Though derived from the designs developed in
France, the harmonium was developed further in India in unique ways,
such as the addition of drone stops and a scale changing mechanism.

In Kolkata, Dwarkanath Ghose of the renowned Dwarkin was adept in
modifying musical instruments as per individual needs of users and is
particularly remembered for modifying the imported harmony flute and
producing the hand held harmonium, which has subsequently become an
integral part of the Indian music scenario.[1] Dwijendranath Tagore
is credited with having used the imported instrument in 1860 in his
private theatre, but it was probably a pedalled instrument which was
cumbersome, or it was possibly some variation of the reed organ.
Initially, it aroused curiosity but gradually people started playing
it[2] and Ghose took the initiative to modify it.[1] It was in
response to the Indian needs that the hand-held harmonium was
introduced. All Indian musical instruments are played with the
musician sitting on the floor or on a stage, behind the instrument or
holding it in his hands. In that era, Indian homes did not use tables
and chairs.[1]

The harmonium is essentially an alien instrument to the Indian
tradition, as it cannot mimic the voice, which is considered the
basis of all Indian music. Meend (glissando), an integral part of any
classical recitation is not possible on the harmonium, and as such,
one cannot faithfully reproduce the subtle nuances of a raga on this
instrument. The harmonium is thus despised by many connoisseurs of
Indian music, who prefer the more authentic yet more technical
sarangi, in accompanying khyal singing.

A popular usage is by followers of various Hindu and Sikh faiths, who
use it in the devotional singing of prayers, called bhajan or kirtan.
There will be at least one harmonium in any mandir (Hindu temple) or
gurdwara (Sikh temple) around the world. The harmonium is also
commonly accompanied by the tabla as well as a dholak. To Sikhs the
harmonium is known as the vaja/baja. It is also referred to as
a "Peti" ( A loose reference to a "Box") in some parts of North India
and Maharashtra.

It also forms an integral part of the Qawwali repertoire, as many
Qawwals use a harmonium when performing Qawwalis. It has received
international fame as the genre of Qawwali music has been popularized
by renowned Pakistani musicians such as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and
Aziz Mian.

The harmonium is also used in Middle Eastern music in certain parts
of the Middle East.

There is some discussion of Indian harmonium-makers producing
reproductions of Western-style reed organs for the export trade.

[edit] Samvadini

Samvadini - a modified version of harmonium to perform solo on the
instrument.
In Indian music, the harmonium is considered to be one of the least
versatile instruments. It is usually used as an accompanying
instrument for vocalists. However, some musicians have begun playing
the harmonium as a solo instrument. Pandit Bhishmadev Vedi, Pandit
Muneshwar Dayal, Pandit Montu Banerjee, and Pamabhusan JnanPrakash
Ghosh were among those personalities who popularized the harmonium
for solo performance. Later Pt. Manohar Chimote [2] gave a completely
new dimension to the harmonium as instrument and unique style of
playing solo on the instrument. He added the "Swarmandel" (Harp) on
top of the reed board and made some significant changes into the
tuning of Harmonium. With all the modification, he renamed the
traditional harmonium to "Samvadini". With this beautiful and
appropriate name, Samvadini is making its mark in the field of Music.
Students of Pt. Manohar Chimote likePt.Rajendra
Vaishampayan,Pt.Jitendra Gore of Mumbai, India are making their mark
in the musical horizon. Pandit Tulsidas Borkar of Mumbai, Pandit Appa
Jalgaonkar, Shri Purushottam Walavalkar, Pt. Rambhau Bijapure of
Belgaum, and Pt. Datta Jogdande of Mumbai have created their own
names in the field of harmonium playing. More recently, Dr. Arawind
Thatte from Pune has sought to create a separate identity for the
harmonium as a solo instrument. More and more music students are
learning in this fashion.

and "The Word".
Paul McCartney, for instance on "This One" from Flowers In The Dirt.
The Penguin Cafe Orchestra's Music for a Found Harmonium (not
surprisingly) features a harmonium. They used the instrument on
several other tracks as well, including "Cutting Branches For a
Temporary Shelter".
Focus has a part for the Harmonium in their song "Hocus Pocus"
The movie Punch Drunk Love features a harmonium as a major plot
device.

have anything to do with the instrument though. Carlton explains the
album title as being the result of playing with the word 'harmony'.

accompaniment throughout his works.
The current Broadway Musical Spring Awakening is one of the only

Re: SAVE GANGA : Open Letter to CM...!!

Posted by: "Himanshu" himanshudutt@gmail.com

Fri Jul 4, 2008 3:53 am (PDT)

Dear All,

I beg to differ with others and would completely support Mr. Vimal and his
constructive criticism about Save Ganga Project. Lets not compare things
with Himachal. It is all together a different situation there. We got
independance late and the pace of progress naturally would be slow.

The fact about Dam is it is said to be producing electricity but we already
have seen the example where Tehri Dam project had few faults. The number of
Megawatts of electricity that it was suppose to produced is manifold lower
than what it is supplying today leave apart the problems that locals faced;
loseing their everything behind. Moreover, we are selling some proportions
of electricity to U.P which means U.P is being given the light from Tehri
project, when it cannot produce enough for Uttarakhand alone. Now think of
various Dam projects at many places on Ganga that had reduced the
water levels to inches. Make a visit to Allahabad and you'll understand.
What about the acqatic life suffering and with ever reducing water level...
with all this would we able to promote tourism. No!

Now answer this, how many employment opportunities dam-making creates... it
only creates labour opportunities. Contrary i think SEZs are a better option
although these are also not free from cancer of things but still better if
you talk of employment.

Bhagirathi glaceirs have already been decreasing from their present size and
as this global warming things heats up more, we shall see there would be
some rivers who would extinct soon. I already see Ramganga and Kosi in bad
shapes. Almost all people of Hills advocating for progress and welfare of
Uttarakhand i say, would never want any such progress that tampers our
serenity. I do not want electricity at the cost of losing the grace of my
hills. Save Ganga, otherwise our generations would only hear the stories
about it.

Does anybody here think that a Professor from IIT(kanpur) heading the
department is a fool to be an activist on this issue. I am not saying he has
no personal interest but at the same time someone outside our community
comes forward for the cause which we violently reject... it makes no sense.
I condem such actions.

Vimal Ji, you are doing your best so lead yourself. May you need any
assistance from my side Iet me know. Also please try greenpeace activitist
who are also happened to be working on this project too. Recently they have
started a campaign to save Turtles at the port of Orissa by writing and
demonstrating against Ratan Tata... i remember even the school children have
been writing to him to appeal to save the Shrimps and Turtels in Orissa.

Lets not develop so much in the name of development that we start running
away from it.... every thing has a purpose and pro's and con's... lets not
always take but give also to mother nature. Now is the time... please do
it!!!

Regards,

Himanshu

Hi! Atul,

Its indeed a gr8 effort. Sure Delhi based Team will take up from here. But I still Favors the idea of testing the soil in Delhi not in Uttaranchal because of Its easy for us to take soil from fields during our visits and bring it to Delhi as team and our office is in Delhi, so coordination in Delhi will be easy. Taking that soil to Uttaranchal based institute will add cost, time and efforts.

Dear Foundation Members,

Here is a another example of contribution even from distance, Mr. Atul is in France and from there he found and coordinated with a institute which can test soil sample we collected during recent visit. Hope other will learn....

Now we need your support as we are not aware which tests are required in soil testing and which test would give us what.... so please if someone from Agriculture background can help us in identifying the required tests and their benefits... as a Raw person our requirement is to know what all we can grow in that soil and follow which pattern with what productivity level.... so that we can plan profitable farming with exact calculation for long term....

When after forty years of licence-permit- raj India opened up its markets and took its first tentative steps in the global economy, no one could have imagined that in less than two decades Indian companies would be in a position to shape the global marketplace. With a sea change in their capabilities, beliefs and aspirations, Indian companies today come across as confident, aggressive and world class as they self-assuredly take over multinational giants like Corus. The closest analogy would be to Japanese companies of the early 1970s, and their potential impact on the world of business in coming decades could be as much, if not more. For this, Indian companies need to evolve original approaches, rather than depend on borrowed ideas, to engender inimitable and sustainable advantages in the global marketplace.

Rajnish Karki, with over ten years' experience in research and advisory work on the strategic management of Indian organizations, has evolved strategic management approaches for Indian companies, which are original and are grounded in the Indian economic and sociocultural context. In this book he shows how breakthrough strategic management results from seeing the big picture and aspiring high, conceiving well-aligned business and organizational components, and moving on with clarity, commitment and conviction.

Competing with the Best bridges the theory and the practice of strategic management, focusing on under-explored yet globally significant aspects of Indian companies. Using the narrow-angle of eight case studies and the wide-angle of patterns and trends at aggregate level, it identifies four viable and effective configurations for Indian companies and describes the process of transformational and incremental changes. Competing with the Best is perhaps the first world-class book on the strategic management of Indian companies—an important constituent of emerging markets—and will prove indispensable for senior and top corporate executives, as well as researchers and students of management

Very true.

Nimulid is actually Nimesulide and available with names like Nise or similar
sounding names.

All docs prescribe this in high fever in India, but dont ever give it to
small children as it may cause brain injuries.

Thanks

Dear Vimal Bhai jee
I agree with u in many aspects but not all as height is not issue if we govt. or Dam Autority following environmental measures to build dam. But main issue is that these dams are not giving relife to Uttrakhand people as electic problem is common as earlier. People are suffering from electic problem as earlier In many villages near to town are is electic problem like poor cabling, low voltage or high voltage, power cut down, many things. If Uttrakhand is becoming Electic Pradesh then first of all we have to give electricity and job to our people then move forward.
But if u see Our Uttraknadi people is responcible for many cause If u look on HIMACHAL PRADESH there is lot of dams in it. And this Small State is developing then us. As u know the topography of HP is much weaker then Uttrakhand but they build dam and developing. Their tourism is also much developed then us as there Roads are better then Uttrakhand etc. If u look on many Issuse we r talking about enviromental Issue but As earlier Bhugana ji make many protest against Tehri dam, people make songs on that issue but they never think of its benifit and all. After all protest and all it built and in production. Then wht the mean of Protest its only WATE OF TIME AND MONEY OF GOVT. AND PEOPLE.

There are lot of things to discuss the that of Dam height
WE PEOPLE ONLY TALK ON STOP THINGS NOT LOOK ON FUTURE
LIKE DEVELOPMENT.
U BETTER KNOW ALL THOSE THINGS

Yes I'm agree with Sh. Jaiveer Rana and only thing I want to discuss that these type of projects are providing relief in employment and parallel developing economic growth of Uttarakhand.

Some people want to be highlighted by showing themselves as they are true helper of Uttarakhand but unfortunately this is not true.
if we want to get everything its fact we have to loose something resulted we live our desired life.

Welcome for any comment

Re: Eligibility for MBA

Hi Gita,

There are many universities and institutions that are offering MBA courses (some in form of Diploma and some as Degree), e.g. IMT-Ghaziabad, SMU, Symbiosis, Anamalai, and some more. The minimum qualification is graduation. IMT-Ghaziabad's forms are available now a days and can be obtained from any of the study center (list of study center can be found on their web site). SMU will be starting their session from December.

I think the 4 years of your work experience will be of no use as they count work experience after graduation, but still u can check with the university u want to join.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact.

Respected Sir,

I don't know whether this will help and whether I am the right person to give you advice because I am not mature enough(24 years old). But I want to share my experience with you. Because I showed the same symptoms as you've told. But the difference is I started talking at 3 and schooling around 5. I was also hyper active though. But from 1st to 10 I was topper of my class. I secured 97% in maths in 12th. After 12th I did engineering and currently working in Bangalore. I am telling you all this to ensure that such symptoms does not signify anything regarding what your child will turn in to. So I think the doctors are right that everything is OK. But you'll have to take care of your child as in my case my parents then gave me special attention.

First, my father started me teaching words by himself. In the same time he also encouraged me to write in vicinity of my brothers. So my education started by drawing irregular line on copy. And he also started teaching me drawing patterns on papers. He the gave those patters a shape which later I realized were alphabets. Although most of my relative thought I'll not be good at studies but with my parents constant help and God's grace I proved all of them wrong.:)...

So don't worry. Give your child as much time as you can and keep consulting doctors. Because only they can tell what actually is going on.:)

Thanks and regards,
Atul Rawat

Respected Members,
I have a three and half year old son. He speaks very few words. Since childhood, his development was slow. At 15 months he used to crawl and by 2 years he has all teeth. Now I am very disturbed as most children of his age are speaking fluently.

I have already shown my son to paediatric doctor and as per various reports, the Doctor said child is normal and Doctor said that some child speaks late by 5-6 years. He has referred to speech therapist.

I have also shown my child to speech therapist. According to him, the child doesnt require speech therapist. He said my son is hyper active. According to him, this problem is known as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder . His tongue, hearing etc. is absolutely ok.

He suggested to modify our behaviour towards son. According to speech therapist, he emphasised for eye to eye contact/concentrati on and encouraging child to speak a lot.

If any one of you have any suggestion, please write me at my email id: mkkandpal@yahoo. co.uk

Whom to blame?

Posted by: "atul pant" pantatul@yahoo.com   pantatul

Thu Jul 3, 2008 12:11 am (PDT)

Whom to blame?

A boy was born to a couple after eleven years of marriage. They were a loving couple and the boy was the gem of their eyes. When the boy was around two years old, one morning the husband saw a medicine bottle open.

He was late for office so he asked his wife to cap the bottle and keep it in the cupboard. His wife, preoccupied in the kitchen, totally forgot the matter.

The boy saw the bottle and playfully went to the bottle fascinated by its colour and drank it all. It happened to be a poisonous medicine meant for adults in small dosages. When the child collapsed the mother hurried him to the hospital, where he died. The mother was stunned. She was terrified how to face her husband.

When the distraught father came to the hospital and saw the dead child, he looked at his wife and uttered just five words.

QUESTIONS:
1. What were the five words?
2. What is the implication of this story?

ANSWER:
The husband just said, "I am with you Darling."

The husband ' s totally unexpected reaction is a proactive behavior. The child is dead. He can never be brought back to life. There is no point in finding fault with the mother. Besides, if only he had taken time to keep the bottle away, this would not have happened.

No one is to be blamed. She had also lost her only child. What she needed at that moment was consolation and sympathy from the husband. That is what he gave her.

If everyone can look at life with this kind of perspective, there would be much fewer problems in the world. "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." Take off all your envies, jealousies, unforgiveness, selfishness, and fears. And you will find things are actually not as difficult as you think.

MORAL OF THE STORY
Sometimes we spend time in asking who is responsible or whom to blame, whether in a relationship, in a job or with the people we know. By this way we miss out some warmth in human relationship.

Our inner strengths, experiences, and truths cannot be lost, destroyed, or taken away. Every person has an inborn worth and can contribute to the human community. We all can treat one another with dignity and respect, provide opportunities to grow toward our fullest lives and help one another discover and develop our unique gifts. We each deserve this and we all can extend it to others.

Reality Hazards, Crime and Iconised Economy

Troubled Galaxy Destroyed Dreams: Chapter 16

Palash Biswas

http://troubledgalaxydetroyeddreams.blogspot.com/

We are habitual to celebrate the rat race amongst the Generation Next
lost in virtual Reality in an Era of Sovereign Market run by the Post
Modern Manusmriti Apartheid White Zionist Hindu Galaxy Order of
corporate Imperialism.Young people are being tragically corrupted by
a seductive new form of popular entertainment. Oddly enough, this
seems to happen in every generation.

Columbus happens to be the Post Modern Manu Maharaj. The icon of
Hindu Zionist white Galaxy Imperialism Columbus happens to be
Corporate now. The Phenomenon of Genocide is corporate. It is
ultimate silencer as the indigenous people, always deprived of
knowledge, is defeated in a war of Information. The History of
Genocide repeats itself in every part of this Globe.

The Genocide is Iconised! It is Open Market. It is neoliberalism. It
is fashion. It is Reality Show. It is TV clipping, Print Media,
Net,Mobile,Fashion,Ramp,Style,Brand and Vogue ultimate.

Our ancestors could not resist , neither we may!

Bishop Fred Henry exposes the moral bankruptcy of his brand of
Catholicism with his statement on the cervical cancer vaccine. That
he would prefer to risk anyone having this terrible disease over
possibly appearing to condone early sexual behaviour is clearly a
sign of his deeply skewed priorities. Young people are going to have
sex. Shaking your finger at them doesn't help, nor does exposing them
to additional risks from the practice by not preparing them with
proper education and health-care precautions. The same attitude in
Africa was a huge contributor to the spread of the AIDS virus, as
Catholic priests taught people there that condoms did not work. If
you believe this behaviour is wrong, then teach your children that,
but don't make the hazards of sexual behaviour greater just to prove
that you disapprove of it.

Today newspapers in India are full of news of murder committed by
teenagers like Vishal or Chandra. The National Crime Research Bureau
(NCRB) says that 83.7 per cent crimes committed by juveniles in 2006
came under the Indian Penal Code. While Maharashtra reported the
highest number of IPC crimes among juveniles in 2006, Madhya Pradesh
registered the highest number of crimes such as murder, rape,
kidnapping and abduction. The news of teenagers being used to smuggle
marijuana makes almost regular headlines in the dailies.

Sometimes the teenager is a drug addict who is being sent to a mental
hospital. Sometimes it is one accused of murdering his alcoholic
father. At other times it is a teenager committing suicide after
fighting with his parents.

Merit lists are published every year. Photos create symphony of
Iconisation. Interviews are live casted. But we never try to locate
the toppers in different exams during the year followed. What happens
to them?

One of them, Indrajeet Chatterjee from Kolkata surfaced this time to
open our eyes, if we have twosome! Indrajeet was published to have
stood Seventh in the Higher Secondary Exams in 1982, but later
enquiries proved the claims to be false. But Kolkata media
highlighted this so called standing.

In fact, Generation Next is engaged in super rat race. nothing is
enough less than ninety percent in any exams. Toppers often get Full
marks minus two or three.Bulk of candidates get Star. The appear in
different competitive exams. Some of them happen to be lucky to get
admission in IIT or IIM. Many of them get admission in Medical and
engineering Colleges. But thousands of Star students are not lucky
enough to follow up with their earlier success. Liberalisation,
Privatisation and Globalisation have killed the Natural Resources,
Natural Livelihood and Indigenous production system. Job is never
available in Open Market. Reservation wo'nt do any help either.
Campus recruitment is a solution who get admission in suitable
institution with a meat of Donation in lacs. MBAs do work as boys in
five star hotels. engineers struggle to get job.

Graduation, Post Graduation and Research students may have better
knowledge, but have very little scope in job market. Only job
available is marketing. Some bright students get very high salary.
Some get high. Some go abroad. But the rest have to satisfy with
substandard jobs and working conditions.

What option is there for the Rest?

But the Consumer Culture makes them habitual with hi-fie hazardous
lifestyle which they may not afford in along run of time.IT industry
with some spoken English and technical diploma or degree opens doors
of outsourcing. The long working hours and tough schedule create an
environment of depression. The temporary Hire Fire jobs with Hi FIE
salary stays very little. But the style and brand remain. Cyber crimes
are not surprising in India nowadays. The Bollywood films have
innovated ways of perfect crime. They have the lead. And the result,
we know very well.

In the last 12 months, some 10 Indian government ministry websites
have been targets of cyber attacks. Recently, security experts with
Boston-based Core Security Technologies said such attackers
could "gain control of countries' water treatment plants, natural gas
pipelines and other critical utilities".

At the same time, a number of online privacy concerns have surfaced.
Mediadefender, a system designed to spot and prevent copyright
infringement, has come under fire for crippling networks for alleged
piracy. In August 2007, Comcast, the second largest Internet service
provider, or ISP, in the US had drawn flak from advocacy groups
for "actively interfering with Internet traffic", choking bandwidth
to file-sharing networks such as Bittorent. In a phone interview,
Howard Schmidt, an information networks expert and a senior cyber-
security adviser in the Bush administration, talks about the growing
concern over surveillance and monitoring on the Internet.

The Apple iPhone has not officially hit Indian shores, yet spammers
have launched a malicious email spam campaign that employs social-
engineering tactics. Visitors who click on an embedded link
for `presentation' or for `more information,' on the iPhone, could
end up downloading a trojan — malware that transmits a computer
virus, opening up the computer system to fraudsters.

Previously, a similar attack designed around iPhone was discovered by
Sunbelt Software. Windows-run computers were infected by the malware,
triggered by visiting legitimate sites such as yahoo.com or
google.com where an embedded link prompted users to visit
iPhone.com.

Users were redirected to a pseudo site under the control of
fraudsters. Victims were then asked to send payment for their Apple
iPhone through Western Union or Moneygram rather than via a credit
card.

These scams, say experts, are part of a criminal-to-criminal (C2C)
business model. A Finjan (web security solutions provider), report
states: "Owners of malicious sites share their victims with other
site owners in order to leverage the strength of one site and provide
business to the other." Trojan 2.0 attacks use regular Web 2.0
technology and websites to exploit legitimate web services, said
Finjan, which has monitored such attacks through its Malicious Code
Research Centre (MCRC).

Just create Icons! And then, escalate the killingfields! The infinite
Hunting ground! This is Vogue today. Consumer culture needs a Killing
Instict and thus, you don`t feel anything when uprooted! It is
precise surgical operation. Man made calamities play havoc while you
indulge yourselves in Carnivals infinite with Virtual Icons created
to destroy you! Thus, the Zionist Hindu Manusmriti Order has not to
face any resistance and the Brahminical hegemony remains intact. You
are spellbound by the Icons and never feel the pain to react in
revolt!

Iconised economy demands fresh Icons to boost the market. Brand is
the last word. So shining India is a Brand and brand happens to be
the Capitalist Marxist Chief Minister of Left Ruled West Bengal.
Sensex India gets a new set of Icons to boost Sensex india. West
Bengal is facing a rough weather and All local TV Channels focused on
either Indian Idol or Twenty 20 World cup. Wacthing Indian TV
Channels you have to stumble on either Laughter channel, Soft porn
covered crime stories or reality shows. All realities are so
subverted and you have no Chance to get a news update. So it is the
same case with the Print Media which press for more skin, more ramps,
more sensation, more scandals, more crime, more style, eat outs, life
style and Icons. News always overplayed or underplayed!

The established Icons are also engaged in hazardous life style
leading to crime.

Breaking News! Putting all rumors and speculations into rest, the
Noida police finally arrested Arushi Talwar's father Dr. Rajesh
Talwar. Arushi's mother Nupur Talwar and Dr. Rajesh's friend and
assistant Dr. Anita Durrani is also under scanner. The police
confirmed that they have been arrested on charges of murder of Arushi
and Hemraj. The Noida SSP had yesterday hinted at the possible angle
of honour killing.

14-day remand won, CBI expects help's help to seize Arushi, Hemraj's
phones, murder weapon

After getting Durani family help Rajkumar's custody for 14 days in
the Noida double murder case, CBI officials on Saturday said the
suspect has promised help in recovery of crucial evidence, including
Arushi Talwar's mobile phone.

The prosecution submitted Rajkumar's confessional statement, made
under Section 161 of CrPC, in the court of special judicial
magistrate Sapna Mishra Tripathi along with the case diary. The case
diary says Rajkumar has confessed that he had first switched off
Arushi's mobile phone and later allegedly broke it and hid it. The
case diary also says he has "agreed to help the investigation agency
in finding Hemraj's mobile and khukri" used in the crime.

The CBI had arrested Rajkumar on Friday as third suspect in the May
15 murders —Arushi's father Dr Rajesh Talwar and his compounder
Krishna are in judicial custody. In court today, Rajkumar wore a
relaxed look, at times even cracking a smile.

Next Battlefield is the space and you have an Icon to prepare for
that.Cricket Carnival goes on with Reality Shows and Parliamentary
soap opera!

Whatever may be the case, Shinjini is an example of parental
ambitiousness and illusions. Great expectations of parents have
resulted in disasters. Nowadays, from toddlers to teenagers, children
are subjected to tremendous pressure. The media makes things worse.
Even after the publication of Madhyamik or CBSE results, we find the
TV channels arranging interviews with the rank holders, thus rousing
such expectations in the mind of parents of other children. It is
true that Shinjini's family is under great stress. But the family
cannot avoid all responsibilities regarding their daughter's illness.
They should have taken due precaution about Shinjini's sickness
before they engaged her in the reality show.

Only the other day, we got to know the horrid story of little
Biswajit, who was killed with a bat by his own father as he wanted
his son to be the best tennis player. Parents, today, run after the
illusion of money and fame. They make their children the scapegoats
without taking care of their weaknesses and drawbacks.

A city court Tuesday remanded Bengali film producer Indrajit
Chatterjee, arrested for alleged Rs.150 million bank fraud, in police
custody till July 5. Chatterjee's bail plea was rejected by the Chief
Metropolitan Magistrate's court Tuesday. He was arrested Monday from
Howrah district's Kona Expressway.

The police Tuesday arrested Amit Sen, an associate of Chatterjee,
from the Entally area in the central part of the city.

"We have got some important documents regarding the fraud from him.
Another partner-in-crime, Dipankar Chatterjee, was nabbed Monday late
night," city police deputy commissioner (detective department) Jawed
Shamim told IANS.

Chatterjee took loans from several banks against a single property in
2006 and even produced a Bengali film before going undercover. He
defrauded the banks of about Rs.150 million, a police official said.

"Even CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) had filed two cases
against Chatterjee for similar crimes," the official said.

Ban on cellphone in classroom cannot be interpreted as a restraint on
the rights of the learners. Excessive use of cellphones is an
interference into the rights of others in the classroom. It is a huge
distraction. The implementation of the ban is a smart decision.. The
society should have its own disciplines. The academic institutions
expect this kind of restrain from the teachers and the taught.
Schools may have intercom systems and people to search and reach out
to the students in an emergency. Schools are for education, not for
talking/messaging/downloading with a cellphone. Cellphones are a
luxury convenience, not a necessity.

Cell phones and iPods play a big part in a learners life, in the post
graduate and research classes, especially in science subjects. But at
the same time we should not forget that students need motivation to
do work in class. For example, if they have a quiet time, they might
find it easier to complete their work if they listen to music. But it
should not be at the cost of disturbing others.

OF LATE, the Toronto school board has banned cellphones in the
classrooms. Now, in India cellphones must be switched off in schools
and colleges of the North East. In the only autonomous college of
West Bengal, St Xaviers, cellphones have to be kept off in
classrooms. Even in the corridors, the students are not allowed to
use cellphones as it is regarded disruptive to the learning
environment. To be hanging around a cellphone in front of a teacher
is to show disrespect to the teachers.

The family of 16-year-old Shinjini Sengupta landed in Bangalore from
Kolkata on Friday, pinning its hopes on the National Institute of
Mental Health and Neuro-sciences (NIMHANS). While doctors are yet to
arrive at a final diagnosis, they surmise that depression could be a
likely cause.

SHINJINI SENGUPTA, a 16-year old class XI student of a reputed
Kolkata school, participated in a popular dance contest, which is
aired Monday - Wednesday on ETV Bangla channel. During the shooting
of the reality show, Shinjini was rebuked for her lackadaisical
performance by the judges. The incident made Shinjini psychologically
and biologically vulnerable. She was traumatised over being scolded
and suffered a paralytic attack. She slipped into depression and then
lost her speech and finally could not even use her limbs. She is now
seriously ill and has been admitted to the state-run National
Institute of Mental Health and Sciences (NIMHANS).

Shinjini couldn't cope with the "public humiliation" by judges. She
has slipped into depression, has stopped speaking and can't even move
her limbs. She was brought to Bangalore after doctors in Kolkata
couldn't zero in on the exact cause of her condition.

Psychiatrists feel that Shinjini might have been a victim of extreme
form of depression. General physicians ascribed the serious illness
to her biological vulnerability and disorder in the spinal chord. The
neurological disorder led to severe weakness and numbness for
Shinjini. The doctors are not sure if Shinjini will at all be fully
cured. This is simply unfortunate that a talented girl like Shinjini
has become a victim of such incurable sickness. Shinjini has been
subjected to tremendous pressure. The parents as well as the judges
are responsible for the girl's sad state to a large extent.

Days after 16-year-old girl from Kolkata went into coma after being
rebuked on a reality show, opinion is divided over who is to be
blamed for her plight -- her parents or the judges on the show.

In what was a dramatic moment on a reality show, the judgest decided
to oust a young teenage girl from the show, which left her in tears.
However, for 16-year-old Shinjini Sengupta, the rebuke proved to be
devastating. The oust affected her to an extent that she went into
depression.

Within days, she lost her speech and was unable to even move her
limbs. Shinjini is now admitted in a hospital in Bangalore, where she
is under psychatric care. Devastated at what has happened to his
daughter, Shinjini's father said that the line has to be drawn
somewhere. He said, "I am fighting for my daughter's life and death.
So this should not take place for other father's as well. Such kind
of programme's should be stopped."

However, the judges said that it is not their fault, but that of
parents who push their kids too far. Ringo -- one of the judges
said, "It is ridiculous that we are being targeted. Unfortunately
parents push their kids too far, which eventually leads to such an
emotional outburst and trauma."

Shinjini's plight has raised questions on how far televison reality
shows should go in the race for ratings. Well known singer Sonu Nigam
and judge of popular reality shows said, "It is unfair to treat
anyone like this. Just because one can sing well or dance well, it
does not mean that they have to compare themselves to someone in
front of them and not if that person is a child."

Calling such reality shows as a catalyst for channel viewership,
Sonia Mehta a renowned Psychologist said, "This suddent emotional
outburst and over reaction adds to the TRP's and increases the
channel's viewership."

On the other hand, the Union Women and Child Development Minsiter --
Renuka Chaudhary blamed the parents and said, "Why do parents put so
much pressure on their kids?"

Shinjini Sengupta, like any typical teenager loved singing and
dancing, but life on reality television is not all fun and laughter -
a truth that the 16-year-old had to find out the hard way.

Shinjini Sengupta is better than when she was flown in to Bangalore
for treatment, her mother said Sunday.

"Shinjini's condition is much better than what it was before she was
admitted to this hospital late Friday. It was worse earlier. Some
more tests were conducted till afternoon. A medical team is
monitoring her health parametres," her mother Sibani Sengupta told
IANS Sunday at the neuro-centre of the state-run National Institute
of Mental and Health Sciences (Nimhans).

Though Shinjini managed to sleep for longer time during the last 36
hours, investigations were being done to ascertain the main cause of
her paralytic condition and prescribe medication accordingly.

"Doctors and nurses are first trying to improve her response to
liquid food through intravenous (IV) system. They say it will take
another day or two to study the various tests and decide the course
of treatment. Even we (my husband D.K. Sengupta and I) are not
allowed to meet or be with Shinjini when tests and diagnoses are
under way," Sibani said, trying to hide her anguish over the trauma
her daughter was going through.

Doctors on duty declined to comment or give any information on
Shinjini's condition. They are trying to locate and identify the
neurotic order that paralysed her vocal chords and limbs movement -
whether it was due to nervous breakdown, blood clot or deep
depression - a couple of weeks after the reality show performance in
Kolkata.

The much-awaited medical bulletin of the hospital on Shinjini was
neither prepared nor released to the waiting media despite such an
assurance by the hospital resident medical officer (RMO) on Saturday.

"We are hoping for the best with prayers and god's blessing. It is
too early to say when Shinjini will be able to recover fully. Our
priority is to first stabilise her condition. Make her take food and
come out of the depression she appears to have gone into after the
tragic incident at the reality show," Sibani noted.

Shinjini's father could not be contacted as he was inside the special
ward attending to her after a CEG test and where visitors, especially
mediapersons, are barred from entry.

"Two MRIs have been done and more tests will be done on Tuesday.
Doctors suspect it could be due to psychological pressure. Basically,
my daughter is a very shy person and would suppress her emotions.
This could be the cause for her condition and NIMHANS is our last
hope," said her father D K Sengupta.

NIMHANS medical superintendent Dr B N Gangadar said doctors were
still examining the girl and trying to figure out why she slipped
into depression and what could be the consequences. Alluding to the
case indirectly, Dr Gangadar said: "Depression is a disorder of the
mind that can biologically impair patients. Patients stop sleeping,
eating and consequently lose appetite. If untreated, patients with
depression are prone to committing suicide."

When asked whether Sengupta's loss of speech and limb movement was a
result of her psychological condition or depression, Dr Gangadar
said, "We can say at this juncture that she could be suffering from
depression. Depression does not lead to permanent loss of speech or
physical disability. We are diagnosing why that has happened. There
could be complex neurological factors leading to such conditions."

That Sengupta was affected so seriously is shocking considering she
is a highly talented girl. She is a good dancer, has acted in
teleserials and appeared in a Bengali film. Sengupta was affected
when she was rebuked by judges during a dance competition on a
Bengali channel on May 19.

She was taken to Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratishthan for diagnosis
who then referred her to a psychiatrist.

Children breaking down during such shows because they couldn't win or
because judges didn't say good things about them are a common sight
on TV.

It is not that only one Shinjini has suffered in one reality show.
There are thousands of Shinjinis all around us in this society. The
commodified society measures men and women in terms of money and
material achievement. The stress factor and cut-throat Other Articles
by Dr. Ratan Bhattacharjee

We should remember that without adequate precaution, such rat race
for money and fame can prove to be disastrous. Well, talents are to
be nourished and not to be exploited. Danseuse Tanushree Shankar,
another judge in the reality show said, "Shinjini was a great dancer,
but unfortunately she was eliminated because of her performance on
that particular day. We always want to see her back on stage. We also
pray for Shinjini and other such unfortunate girls that they are able
to recollect their usual self."

Young people are being tragically corrupted by a seductive new form
of popular entertainment. Oddly enough, this seems to happen in every
generation.

In his 1883 book, Traps for the Young, U.S. postal inspector Anthony
Comstock warned of the sinful hazards of reading dime novels. In his
1954 book, Seduction of the Innocent, child psychiatrist Fredric
Wertham warned of the psychosexual perils of poring over comic books.
In their 2008 book, Grand Theft Childhood, Harvard Medical School
psychiatrists Lawrence Kutner and Cheryl Olson warn about video
games.

The gist of their warning: Don't jump to conclusions.

Video games have a dual reputation as harmlessly exciting fun and as
home training systems for mass murderers. Kutner and Olson's book
shows that neither characterization is true across the board,
although one of them is much closer to the truth than the other.

Using a 1.5 million dollars grant from the Office of Juvenile Justice
and Delinquency Prevention, part of the U.S. Justice Department,
Kutner and Olson set out to explore what kinds of video games
children aged 12 to 14 play, how they play them, why they play them,
and what relationships there might be between game habits and other
behavior.

The two researchers, who are also the married parents of a video game-
playing teenage son, surveyed more than 1,200 middle school students
in Pennsylvania and South Carolina, along with 500 parents of those
children. They also conducted focus groups of middle school boys and
(separately) their parents in the Boston area.

Their survey did not directly address serious criminal behavior, in
part to avoid asking kids to incriminate themselves, but their book
uses statistics published by the Justice Department to conclude
that "Video game popularity and real-world youth violence have been
moving in opposite directions. Violent juvenile crime in the United
States reached a peak in 1993 and has been declining ever since."

Mass shootings at schools are the ultimate juvenile crime nightmare,
but Grand Theft Childhood (Simon and Schuster, 260 pp, 25 dollars)
cites a U.S. Secret Service study concluding that only "one in eight
school shooters showed any interest in violent video games."

The couple recently discussed their own study with The Daily Yomiuri
in a telephone interview from their home office in Boston. "What we
were really looking at was the issue of violence and the typical
child. That's something where we don't see evidence of any sort of
worrisome connection," Kutner said. "At least not the big scary
stuff, the going out and shooting or stabbing someone," Olson added.

However, they did find that kids who listed M-rated games among the
ones they had played "a lot" in the previous six months were
significantly likelier to have problems of a less dramatic nature,
such as getting into fights with other kids, getting into trouble at
school or shoplifting.

"It's true, but it needs to be put into perspective, in that the
majority of kids who play them still do not get into trouble," Kutner
said.

A game rated M, or mature, by the Entertainment Software Ratings
Board (ESRB), a U.S. industry group, is suggested for players aged 17
and older. (In Japan, games thought suitable for the same age range
are rated D by the Computer Entertainment Ratings Organization, or
CERO.)

"Different groups are cherry-picking our results. There are a lot of
avid gamers who are saying that we proved there was no relationship,
and that's not true. We actually found that there was some
correlation among normal problematic behaviors and the amount of
gameplay and type of gameplay," Kutner said. "And at the same time,
people on the other side, saying games are evil, were saying: 'Look!
They're showing this.' Back when Grand Theft Auto IV was released [in
early May], we did a lot of interviews, and there were several
stations in Boston that interviewed Cheryl [Olson]. And she told them
essentially the same thing in the individual interviews.

"And that evening one of them set up the story saying, 'Experts say
there's nothing to worry about,' which isn't what we say. And they
showed her quote. And another station said, 'Experts say there's a
lot to worry about,' and they showed the same quote."

"Pretty much the same quote," Olson said.

"There are times when people will not let information interfere with
their preconceived notions," Kutner concluded.

Their survey was conducted at the end of 2004, not long after Grand
Theft Auto: San Andreas was released. It was no surprise that the GTA
games collectively ranked No. 1 in the titles most frequently played
by boys. But they were surprised to see the famously violent game
series come in second on the girls' list (after The Sims, which
didn't even make the boys' top 10).

"Anecdotally, it sounds like [girls] play it a little bit differently
than the boys do," Kutner said.

"We had a couple of young college student research assistants who
were telling us about how they played it," Olson explained. "And they
would drive around and go to the mall and shop for clothes and
things. But I'm sure there must be some girls who are also playing it
to get their anger out, though, and that's what our 'reasons for
play' questions suggested. Many boys are using violent games to
manage their emotions and get their anger out and so on, but there's
a substantial number of girls who may be doing that as well."

Boys who vent their frustrations by shooting monsters are not likely
to do the same with people because they have a better grasp of the
distinction between fantasy and reality than adults sometimes give
them credit for. One finding pointing at this idea is that kissing
and swearing were the two things that boys mentioned most often when
describing why they thought their younger siblings should not be
allowed to play certain games.

Olson said that "swearing and kissing...are things that they or their
little siblings can do in real life. That really struck us as great
evidence of how good they were at distinguishing fantasy versus
reality, if they were zeroing in on the two things that were possible
to do in the real world."

"You know," she joked, "girls are much scarier than zombies, because
girls are real."

Discussing boy-girl relations in a more serious vein, Olson described
a game called Def Jam Vendetta, which features "rappers that are
wrestling or fighting each other. And as you get higher in the
levels, you start to win women as trophies. The sexism is something
that I think Larry [Kutner] and both strongly object to. Were our son
13 or 14 today, I would have much more concern with him playing a
title that glorifies sexism and [shows] women as objects to be won
than a game that has him blasting away at some aliens."

An intriguing sidelight in Grand Theft Childhood is that for boys
(although not yet for girls), playing games together, talking about
games and sharing game techniques has become such a mainstream method
of socializing that it is the kids who don't play who are now de
facto abnormal. Olson cautioned that no real conclusions could be
drawn about this group in the study because their numbers were too
small for statistically significant findings.

But as for the overall results, Kutner mentioned one excellent reason
to have confidence that the kids had reported accurately on the role
of video games in their lives: "Unlike a lot of research that is done
on students, this was something they were interested in."

Juvenile crimes

ONCE MORE the country is concerned over juvenile crimes. There are
not just one Vishal or one Chandra who can be put to prison so that
all juvenile criminals are silenced.

Juvenile crime is the burning question of the day. The number of
juvenile crimes is increasing everyday. In India juvenile crime
occurs chiefly because of parental neglect, narcotic addiction,
boredom, unemployment, the evil influence of Bollywood and Hollywood
potboilers, love- revenges, poverty and the abundance of alcohol.

Juvenile crime has a global dimension. Only a few days earlier Se ung-
Hui Cho's Virginia Tech killings have raised a plethora of questions.
Teenage violence and creative writing have become synonymous. Seung-
Hui Cho in his creative writing classes wrote two dreadful plays.
Teenage sex crime victims are shown fantasizing about killing their
molesters. In Mr. Brownstone, three 17-year-old high school students
sneak into a casino to escape a teacher who they say has sodomized
them. "I wanna kill him," says a character named John. "If he's a
leech, we'll be able to yank it off and squash him beneath our
boots," adds Joe. Jane follows shortly with: "I wanna watch him bleed
like the way he made us kids bleed." Richard McBeef is his second
play in which a teenager is seen accusing his new stepfather of
molesting him and murdering his father.

Some surveys have measured correlation between adolescent crime and
family problems. Ten times as many juvenile delinquents come from an
atmosphere of vulgarity or heavy drinking as from a normal
environment.

Sometimes classrooms turn the teenagers to criminals. In the
classrooms most teachers do not want to pay attention to any comment
from students they have named as `bad'. They treat them like
untouchables in the class. This kind of unequal treatment is often at
the root of all troubles. At times it is seen that the dropouts of
the schools fall prey to drug addiction. The world of drugs is a
lonely world of mental frustration, false happiness and sickness. One
time smoking of marijuana may get one hooked on heroin forever. But
how can these be remedied? Certainly not by punishment. In Imphal
sometimes the feet of the young boys are cut to bleed as a punishment
for smoking hash. But later these boys go astray and they really
become the garbage and spoil the society.

Adolescents in their search of more affection and satisfaction are
often abused by drugs. Some again engage themselves in violence.
Today's youths search more affection and satisfaction than the youth
in the past and the questions remain unanswered. Generation conflict
is not the only answer. The future of the country, nay the whole
world is in the hands of the youth. But if they are not empowered
today, time will take them slowly and quietly and with much anguish
and bewilderment, to a confused society. So the need of the hour is
to love the youths, nurture, develop and give them strength before it
is too late.

While natural calamities do not come so frequently and are anyway
beyond our control it is the man made calamities we must be beware
of! Warning that outer space may become the "battlefield of the
future," India on Monday proposed a "robust" international mechanism
for protection of space assets since they were "vulnerable to
attacks". Whie they come in all forms and intensity – earthquakes,
hurricanes, floods, drought, tornados; even man-made calamities.
Hinduja TMT Ltd, which is being renamed as Hinduja Ventures, and its
joint venture partner UAE's DP World will invest Rs 100 crore each to
enter the healthcare sector.

The superstitious among Indonesia's 200m people could be forgiven for
thinking that the gods must be irate. By almost any standard, 1997
has been a very bad year, bringing drought, forest fires, air
crashes, a currency collapse, stock exchange slump, and riots. But
much of the calamity has been man-made, and it has tarnished the
reputation of President Suharto's regime, at a critical moment for
the ageing president and his supporters.

India will launch its maiden moon mission 'Chandrayaan I' early next
year, Indian Space Research Organisation Chairman G Madhavan Nair
said today. On the other hand, Amid confusion, the visit of a 19-
member British group to Lucknow to commemorate the 150th anniversary
of the first war of Independence in 1857 starts today despite
opposition by the BJP, Samajwadi Party and some Muslim religious
leaders and intellectuals.

Columbus returns. Columbus has the single point agenda to kill the
indigenous people worldwide as he killed some five hundred years back.

Millions of indigenous people lived in the Americas when the 1492
voyage of Christopher Columbus began a historical period of large-
scale European contact with the Americas. European contact with what
they called the "New World" led to the European colonization of the
Americas, with millions of emigrants (willing and unwilling) from
the "Old World" eventually resettling in the Americas.. While the
population of Old World peoples in the Americas steadily grew in the
centuries after Columbus, the population of the American indigenous
peoples plummeted. The extent and causes of this population decline
have long been the subject of controversy and debate. The 500th
anniversary of Columbus's famous voyage, in 1992, drew renewed
attention to claims that indigenous peoples of the Americas had been
the victims of ethnocides (i.e. the destruction of a culture).

Columbus started from Atlantic Coast to get India. He got America.
The rulers established that he was the man who invented America.
Though America existed with high level Maya and Inca and red Indian
civilisations. Columbus destroyed everything without any weapon of
Mass destruction. He exercised genocides without any missile, without
any atom bomb!
Now the Columbus has got full control on World affairs. It is total
dominance in the space. Nature raped and Humanity annihilated. He
robbed natural resources. Now they rob everything we have!

Our ancestors did not welcome Columbus. Though they could not resist
the destiny of eternal slavery.

We welcome Columbus everywhere. Latin America resists. Latin America
which was the killing field , a free hunting ground for Sovereign
Columbus. Our Civil Society is a committed ally of the Sovereign
Columbus now. We have surrounded political borders, cultural roots,
mother languages, national identity, production system, economy,
sovereignty, freedom, democracy, humanity, human and civil rights!

Case Study: Indrajeet Chatterjee

The Detective Department of the Kolkata police arrested Indrajit
Chatterjee from Howrah on Monday for committing fraud against various
banks. He was also wanted by the Central Bureau of Investigation. The
police are on the lookout for his wife Rashika, who was a part of the
racket.

Another accused in the case, Amit Sen was arrested from Entally on
Tuesday. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Detective Department, Jawed
Shamim said several tracing papers and duplicate stamps of the state
government were recovered from him. "He is an accomplice of

Chatterjee and had helped him in forging various documents," added
DC.

With four persons arrested earlier, seven arrests have been made so
far in the case, the police said. "Chatterjee seems to be the kingpin
of a forgery gang," said a senior officer of the anti-bank fraud
section of the Detective Department. Sources said that he was
arrested by the Kolkata police on charges of forgery nearly four
years ago.

The economic offence wing of the CBI was hunting for him, as he had
been duping various banks since 2006. "Chatterjee had cheated UCO
bank and Canara bank with crores of Rupees," said a CBI source. The
Kolkata police had received a complaint to this effect from the
Karnataka bank in last December. "To catch him, we conducted raids at
several places throughout the country," said Shamim.

"He deposited the papers of a flat in the Sayeed Amir Ali Avenue as
security and took huge loans from several banks," added DC.

Rashika was the owner of Ma Karunamoyee Films Ltd, that produced
films and serials, said the police. Chatterjee was the promoter of a
company, Amtech Universal. The duo had recently produced a Bengali
film, Greftar.

Police are now investigating more cases of his fraud. "On Tuesday
morning, a person called us that Chatterjee had duped him. We have
asked him to file a complaint," Shamim added.

Mobile Phones

Mobile phones in classroom cause distraction and kids are unable to
concentrate on learning. Nowadays in colleges, students misuse
cellphones by sending SMS and MMS. Only the other day, newspaper
headlines screamed with the report of obscene picture messages sent
through cellphone by a student. However, he was nabbed later.

But besides cellphones, the pampered children of wealthy families are
gradually getting used to other luxurious ways of life. Air
conditioned cars, costly school bags, pens, watches or shoes are
their regular requirements. This not only creates differences in the
mind of the students but also a kind of complex, which makes the
children lonely and even depressed.

The Meghalaya government has already announced a ban on cellphones in
the classroom and cars outside to prevent the students from being
engaged in too much luxury and show-off. Parents are asked not to
drop their children in cars. In school buses, children develop
community sense. The luxurious ways of life make the children
selfish. This is going on in other states. Use of cellphone by
parents, especially at the time of driving can cause accidents.

Schools are for learning. It is high time that the states step in to
ban the high-tech gadgets, which cause distraction, especially when a
class is in progress. If their parents need to contact them regarding
rides or appointments, they can leave a voice mail and the student
can pick it up later.

Cybercrime threatens Internet economy

Government ministers from across the world have issued a call for
greater vigilance against cybercrime at the close of meeting on the
future of the Internet economy, says Computing.co.uk.

The Seoul Declaration came at the end of a two-day ministerial
conference on the future of the Web in the South Korean capital
hosted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development
(OECD).

OECD member countries, the European Community and ministers from
Chile, Egypt, Estonia, India, Indonesia, Israel, Latvia, Senegal and
Slovenia affirmed the declaration.

Turkish hacker tips Photobucket

Photobucket, the popular photo sharing Web site, became the target of
a DNS hack on Tuesday, reports The Register.

As a result of the attack, some (but not all) surfers hoping to check
out pictures were involuntarily redirected to a greeting from hacker
NetDeliz and a message in Turkish.

A post to Photobucket's user forum blamed the problem on "an error in
our DNS hosting services". It stressed that users' personal
information was not affected by the redirection.

Verizon speeds up fibre-optic Internet

Verizon Communications is boosting the speed of its FiOS fibre-optic
Internet service in 10 states, says The Associated Press.

The FiOS service areas of California, Delaware, Indiana, Maryland,
Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Washington
will see new plans that nearly double Internet speeds, Chief
operating officer Denny Strigl said in remarks to be delivered at a
conference Wednesday.

The faster speeds were already available in New York, New Jersey and
Connecticut, where competition from cable is particularly fierce, and
in Florida, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Data glitch stops Mars lander

The Phoenix lander stopped digging soil near Mars' north pole
Wednesday as engineers on Earth worked to fix a glitch that caused
the loss of a day's worth of photos, reports The Associated Press.

The problem was discovered late Tuesday after the spacecraft dug a
trench inside a polygon-shaped surface feature that was likely caused
by seasonal expansion and shrinking of ice.

The lander beamed back pictures of the trench, but an overload of
data prevented it from saving images of the landscape and atmosphere
in its flash memory.

Crimeware developers now supply "crimeware toolkits" to other
fraudsters. These packages guide users to sneak into a system and
then retrieve data for financial gain. But criminals can also go the
old-fashioned way — purchasing data collected by trojans, keyloggers
and other types of crimeware.

SophosLabs, which had intercepted emails with subject lines such
as `Million dead in Chinese quake' linking victims to websites on
a .cn domain, agrees on the increasing complexity of trojans.

Sophos experts predict, "Using the highly-anticipated Olympic Games
due to take place in Beijing in August, cyber thieves would be on
prowl to launch many more trojans that could sneak into systems and
silently track a victim's system and data stream."

The term indigenous peoples has no universal, standard or fixed
definition, but can be used about any ethnic group who inhabit the
geographic region with which they have the earliest historical
connection. However, several widely-accepted formulations, which
define the term "Indigenous peoples" in stricter terms, have been put
forward by prominent and internationally-recognised organizations,
such as the United Nations, the International Labour Organization and
the World Bank. Indigenous peoples in this article is used in such a
narrower sense.

Drawing on these, a contemporary working definition of "indigenous
peoples" for certain purposes has criteria which would seek to
include cultural groups (and their descendants) who have an
historical continuity or association with a given region, or parts of
a region, and who formerly or currently inhabit the region either:

before its subsequent colonization or annexation; or
alongside other cultural groups during the formation of a nation-
state; or
independently or largely isolated from the influence of the claimed
governance by a nation-state,
And who furthermore:

have maintained at least in part their distinct linguistic, cultural
and social / organizational characteristics, and in doing so remain
differentiated in some degree from the surrounding populations and
dominant culture of the nation-state.
To the above, a criterion is usually added to also include:

peoples who are self-identified as indigenous, and/or those
recognised as such by other groups.
Note that even if all the above criteria are fulfilled, some people
may either not consider themselves as indigenous or may not be
considered as indigenous by governments, organizations or scholars.

Other related terms for indigenous peoples include aborigines,
aboriginal peoples, native peoples, first peoples, first nations and
autochthonous (this last term having a derivation from Greek,
meaning "sprung from the earth"). Indigenous peoples may often be
used in preference to these or other terms, as a neutral replacement
where these terms may have taken on negative or pejorative
connotations by their prior association and use. It is the preferred
term in use by the United Nations and its subsidiary organizations.

India's dirty laundry: The murder tearing Indian society apart

The murder of a teenage girl in Delhi, unjustly blamed on a domestic
servant, has heightened hatred and suspicion at the heart of Asia's
most class-riven society. Andrew Buncombe reports

Monday, 16 June 2008

When 14-year-old Aarushi Talwar was found murdered the police made no
effort to examine the crime scene and assumed the killer was the
family's servant, Hemraj (below left). A day later it was found that
Hemraj had also been murdered. Aarushi's father, Rajesh Talwar
(circled), is now a suspect. Bottom left is Aarushi's mother.

For police in the eastern suburbs of Delhi it seemed like an open
and shut case.

When the body of 14-year-old Aarushi Talwar was discovered in a pool
of blood, her throat cut and the family's domestic servant nowhere to
be found, detectives had only one suspect. Senior officers said they
even had clues as to where the 45-year-old Nepali servant might be
hiding and said that a team of officers was being dispatched to Nepal
to track him down. The police saw no reason to bring in sniffer dogs,
photograph the crime scene or even force open a locked door that led
to a terrace despite the presence of drops of blood on the steps.

An immediate media frenzy erupted. The TV channels and newspapers
were full of lurid details and unquestioningly blamed Yam Prasad
Banjade, also known as Hemraj, the missing servant, for the grisly
killing of the teenager. And then one day later, someone opened the
terrace door and discovered Hemraj's decomposing body lying on the
floor. He too had been murdered, in the same way as Aarushi. Police
were forced to reopen the murder mystery.

The authorities' handling of the high-profile case – Aarushi's
father, Rajesh Talwar, a dentist, is currently the police's latest
suspect – resulted in angry demonstrations by Nepali labourers,
outraged that one of their countrymen had been blamed unfairly for
such a horrible crime. But the case has focused fresh attention on
the uneasy relationship between India's middle classes and the
ubiquitous servants who wash, cook, shop, drive, garden and clean for
them. It has highlighted too, the deep anxiety of many Indians who
live in perpetual fear that their servants will rob them, poison them
or worse. A constant source of conversation among Indians who employ
domestic staff, such fear has now even found its way into a popular
new Indian novel that tells the story of a bitter and disenchanted
chauffeur in Delhi who slits his employer's throat.

"We always get our staff verified by the police and we also try and
get people who are recommended to us. Only then do we let them in our
house," said Rosie Kapoor, a businesswoman from south Delhi, who
employs one full-time and two part-time maids. "But even after all
this I am still very careful."

While in the West servants largely belong to an earlier generation,
in India they remain commonplace. Even families with a modest income
will employ one or two maids; however industrious middle-class
Indians may be in other respects, most have a loathing of domestic
chores. In Delhi alone, it is estimated there are at least 60,000
domestic servants, of which perhaps just a third are registered with
the police.

The maids, cleaners, drivers and cooks usually earn pitifully little
and often live in miserable conditions. Often they are migrants from
Nepal or else impoverished Indian states such as Orissa or Bihar. A
full-time maid can earn as little as 2,000 rupees (£24) a month,
supplemented with a meagre diet and perhaps some cheap clothes given
to them by their employer. For this, the servant will usually work 12
to 14 hours a day, perhaps with one day off a week. Usually, servants
will live in a simple one-roof shack or shed, often built on the roof
of the house – swelteringly warm during the long, hot summers and
bone-chilling in northern India's brief but cold winters. Most
servants' bathroom facilities are probably best left undescribed.

And the relationship between domestic staff and the families they
work for can have additional complications above and beyond the
obvious financial disparity. Often staff will be from a lower caste
than their employer, adding to possible mistrust and resentment.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that some employers treat their staff
well, even almost considering them members of the family. On holidays
such as Diwali and Holi, the staff will get a generous bonus or gift,
they will receive their meals and clothes and time off to go back to
their village or town if a family member is ill.

But there are numerous reports of employers treating their staff as
little more than slaves. An 18-year-old who works as the live-in cook
for a businessman in the Safdarjang area of south Delhi said that his
every move was followed by CCTV monitors that his employer had
installed in the house. The cook, Sushil, said that if he was caught
leaving the house during working hours he was punished. He said that
he, and two teenage girls employed as maids, were often beaten.

"If anyone makes a mistake, the boss beats them. He is dangerous,"
said Sushil, who came to Delhi from the Sultanpur district of Uttar
Pradesh. "He hits the girls as well. He is a really bad man."

Sushil said that he earned 4,500 rupees a month but that he had to
pay for his own food and clothes from this. In the three years he had
worked at the house, his employer had never given him a holiday
bonus.

Given the wretched, impoverished conditions in which India's domestic
servants live it would perhaps not be surprising if servants were to
turn to opportunistic crimes. "The class difference of employers and
the employed is so big and that tempted them to commit crimes," a
Delhi police spokesman, Rajan Bhagat, told the Associated Press.

But despite the widespread stories of chauffeurs routinely siphoning
off petrol from their employers' cars, maids rustling through
jewellery boxes when they should be sweeping the floor and newspaper
cartoons showing Nepali servants chasing terrified elderly women, to
what extent is the middle-class fear of their staff justified and how
much of it is urban myth?

"I think it is real and I think we are hearing a lot less than
actually takes place," said an expatriate living in Delhi who employs
domestic staff and asked not to be named. "It's getting worse.
[Domestic servants] can see the light. They know that money will give
them a way out. It's something new. And people have to be careful."

While the media attention devoted to Aarushi's murder was
exceptional, even the family's lawyer believes such servants are
often responsible for crimes. Pinaki Mishra said there were many
factors behind the phenomenon – increasing economic disparity, the
increasing influx of rural people into India's cities and even mafia-
style groups that force domestic servants to steal from their
employers.

"India is an entire society in transformation," he said. "You have a
middle class of up to 300 million people and below that you have an
aspirational class of up to 300 million ... All the values are
breaking down. No one wants to do menial work."

This view was shared by the family of an east Delhi businessman
killed 10 days ago in his home. In this case too, the family's Nepali
servant – employed for less than a year – has gone missing and police
say he is a suspect. The businessman's hands had been tied behind his
back and he had been strangled by a bed-sheet.

"Globalisation is the problem. Everybody wants a television,
everybody wants the luxury. If they cannot get it by hook then they
get it by crook," said the businessman's sister, her eyes red with
tears. "We want to catch the person who did this to stop it happening
again. We know we are not going to get our brother back but we are
not going to lose our humanity."

Yet while such killings made big headlines, official figures suggest
that the problem is not as great as some may believe. Mr Bhagat, the
Delhi police spokesman, said that five people in the city with a
population of more than 16 million had been robbed or killed by their
servants so far this year. Last year the total was six.

Domestic servants say they are often blamed unfairly by their
employers, the first in line to be accused if something goes missing.
In the aftermath of Aarushi's death and the accusations that were
made by police about the alleged guilt of the family's servant,
dozens of other domestic workers gathered outside the local police
station to complain. "We become prime suspects every time there is a
crime in the house or the neighbourhood we work in," Ram Bahadur, a
labourer, told journalists. "We are poor people trying to earn a
living with dignity. Is it fair to suspect us without evidence?"

Sushil, the cook, said that he too was often accused of things, even
though he insisted that thoughts of committing a crime had never
entered his head. He said he was shocked by the murder of the
businessman in east Delhi. "This is not something I think about," he
said. "How can anyone do this sort of thing if he is a servant?"

The family of the murdered businessman said that they will no longer
employ a live-in servant, even if it means they will have to perform
the chores that their domestic help have traditionally carried
out. "The culture can change. People can learn to adapt," said one of
his sons, standing outside his father's store, talking with friends
and relatives who had come to pay their respects. "They will have to
change."

But are other Indians ready to give up their domestic staff and get
down to scrubbing the dishes? Nishant Singh, a lawyer who works in
Gurgaon, Delhi's Westernised satellite city, said the flurry of
recent headlines would certainly encourage more people to think
carefully about the staff they hire, about getting them verified by
police and perhaps opting for part-time help rather than live-in
servants.

But he doubted that Indians would forgo employing servants
altogether. With the upper part of India's economy booming, more
people had money to spend on help and with increasing numbers of
women entering the workplace there was more demand for people to
carry out the household tasks traditionally performed by
women. "There has long been this concept of having staff," he
said. "It's part of the culture."

View Full Version : increasing teenage crime in dublin...from a

s200030-10-2005, 03:40 PM
I am disappointed to publish this message but I want people to read
my story…..I want people to be more aware of teenager crime in
Dublin. I am from England and a secondary school teacher. I've always
wanted to go Dublin as I hear great things and love Guinness and the
Irish accent. Although we did have a fun time in Dublin, it got
ruined by the "tracksuit" teenagers that loom around the inner city
Dublin streets, causing hassle to vulnerable innocent passer-by.

My story has a sad ending for me but I'm hope things will be positive
from what happened to my friend and I. It was our second and last
night in Dublin as it was short holiday. We have just left a night
club round 1 am to go to another club. As we crossed the traffic
lights on O' Connell Street, two teenage girls, barely 15 yrs old,
snatched my mate's mask as they passed us. (It was Halloween weekend)
We were drunk ourselves; and our natural instinct was to get the mask
back, so I helped my friend to take the masks out of the girl's hand,
which we did.
As we walked away, they swore at us. So we swore back and carried on
walking. When we approached the black statue of Daniel O'Connell,
they followed us, then ran towards us and jumped on my friend. They
started to kick my friend so I shouted them to get her off. Then, one
of the girls pushed me over into the busy road and grabbed my hair
and started kicking me. I tried to fight back but she pulled my hair
tighter and carried on kicking me. I had to roll in a ball as she
would kick me in the stomach. People just stood there and watched us
getting attacked. I felt so embarrassed and helpless. The men who
saved us were this very heroic Asian guy and his Italian friend. They
pulled the girls off us and helped us to cross the bridge to get away
from the girls.
Obviously we were in great shock from the incident. I have never been
attacked or been in any fights before as I always stay away from
trouble. I believe I am an intelligent and sensible person and I
rarely drink. But, naturally, we were enjoying the Guinness too much
and enjoying our holiday in Dublin. We didn't think our long awaited
dream holiday would be ruined by such evil and uneducated people.
It was a blessing in disguise when the girls came back up the bridge
and began to attack me again. She pushed the guy out of the way and
jumped on me, pulling my hair so tight. She was like an animal,
getting pure satisfaction out of causing pain. They had this evil
smile on their face as they approached is again. They even walked
normally across the traffic lights to get to us. It was so surreal.
My friend shouted for people to help me. It took four men to pull her
off me and it felt like it took awhile to do this as she held on to
my hair so hard. Being oriental, I have long black hair but about
fourth of it has been ripped off.
The police arrived very soon after the incident in a big white van.
As the four men held this girl down, My friend told me one Irish guy
told the guys to let her go, not knowing what happened which made my
friend angry. I just wanted to be well away from the situation as I
was so upset and angry. I kept on shouting out "how evil they were".
The police retained the girls. They didn't retaliate. They appeared
to be so calm and emotionless. I was livid. Deep down I wanted them
to suffer the same pain I went through. I just kept shouting at them
and cried. One of the female officers said if I carried on shouting,
I would be put in the van which made me angrier. The police didn't
seem too sympathetic towards us apart from one officer. We were the
ones so distress and in pain. It was so evident in our appearance. My
friend lip was cut; her hair was messed up and cuts on her face. But
I was the one who got attacked twice. I couldn't calm down; I was
just shocked and angry about what just happened. In one way I was
very conscious of the situation as we asked what will happen to the
girls. They told us if it's the first offence, they probably just get
a caution. We were even more livid when we heard this. The trauma and
pain these girls caused us, we felt it was unfair. Two days on and
being back in the safety of my home, my whole body aches and
constantly reminds me of the night. The bruising on my knees prevents
me from even walking now. I have cuts and grazes on my face which
probably will scar. I can't go back to work due to the injuries. But
I know I need to recover mentally as I work with rebellious teenagers
at school. When I see teenagers hang out in groups on the streets, it
does scare me. I reported this incident to the `Irish independent' as
I want public awareness of teenage crime in Dublin.
I found out from the Asian guy who saved our lives that the girls
were under influence of alcohol and one went unconscious in the
hospital afterwards. The first evening, a gang of these tracksuit
teenagers tried to steal my friend's bag. Also, on the night where we
were brutally attacked, this guy in fancy dress had his hat stolen by
these tracksuit teenagers. He tried to get it back and they were just
playing with him.
Its really unfortunate incident that happened to us and I hope no one
else will have to go through the trauma we went through. It was an
unprovoked attack and it made us scared to back to Dublin. I never
walk on my own anywhere, but is it safe to be just in pairs? The
issue I really want to raise is what is the government is trying to
do about these teenagers who loom around the streets in gangs. Too
often we saw them and we were only been there for two days…..

Dear Friends,

Thanks to all those who have shown interest in joining the Project Masi.
However, we are still looking for more participation. We need project
leaders and coordinators too for this Project.

I know most of you want to join our hands for this noble cause but
somehow not coming forward. I feel it's a time when you should come
forward and contribute towards a small step in empowering our own
community. A small drop is always precious and if we all join our hands
together it would become a sea.

For us people/leaders/coordinators are important for driving these
camps, money is secondary.

Thanks.

Best Wishes,

Subject: RE: Fw: [PGG-Regd Trust] PG Group Initiates Annual Sponsorship
Programme

Hi Himanshu,

Thanks for your mail. Let me answer all your raised questions so that
it helps all the members of the PG Group to gain the knowledge about
this awareness cum sponsorship programme -

Role of the Project Leaders & Coordinators - This time PG Group team
would be required to visit three Project Schools (i.e. Puryadaang (Pauri
Garhwal), Gairsain (Chamoli Garhwal) & Masi (Kumaon). We need to have
three different teams headed by Project Leaders for each Project.
Puryadaang is our first Project initiated in year 2006 and the team
would visit to renew the scholarship of the students. Gairsain is our
second Project initiated in Year 2007 and team would visit to renew the
scholarship. Masi is our Third (New) project being initiated this year
in Kumaon Region and on project team would visit there.

The primary responsibility of the Coordinators and Leaders for these
Projects would be to work out the agenda for the awareness camp (must
comprise education awareness session) and coordinate on the process of
identifying/evaluating the renewal of scholarship sponsorship.

Financial Support - There is no minimum amount fixed as contribution
from the interested members. Even an amount of as less as Rs. 100/- as
contribution is appreciated for this noble cause. There is a
provisioning of maintaining a sub account in PG for scholarship
programme. Funds generated for this cause are utilized for this cause.
Upon the completion of Projects, we would share the list of all the
contributors/donors and would also share the list of students sponsored
under the programme.

As part of our scholarship programme, we sponsor the expenses around -
School Fee, Tuition Fee, Books, Stationery, 2 Set of Uniforms, Shoes
etc.

I hope above information clarifies your doubts. If any of you need
further information or clarification, please feel free to revert.

Thanks.

Please describe a little more about the program like the role of these

contribution could be, tax exemption benefits and what foundations and
how
the funds would be allocated towards the child education.

India has become a dumping ground for banned drugs; also the business for production of banned drugs is booming. Plz make sure that u buy drugs only if prescribed by a doctor(Also, ask which company manufactures it, this would help to ensure that u get what is prescribed at the Drug Store) and that also from a reputed drug store. Not many people know about these banned drugs and consume them causing a lot of damage to themselves.

Please Make sure u forward it everyone u know.

DANGEROUS DRUGS HAVE BEEN GLOBALLY DISCARDED BUT ARE AVAILABLE IN INDIA . The most common ones are action 500 & Nimulid.

Dear All,

As you know we are trying to use the rural resources and urban market to
create economic empowerment in rural Hills villages. Before I move forward I
would like to share this Video with you all. Just listen what these real
Heroes say about rural development.

ig-awards-night-with-real-stars.html> http://www.ibnlive. com/videos/
63621/04_ 2 008/rh1904_6a/ real-heroes- special-big- aw ards-night-with-
real-stars. html

Now coming to point... as you know we are working on the model of bring
native uttaranchali products to Delhi,Mumbai and Lucknow markets by creating
co-operatives in Hills and one retail chain in these cities.

As you know we have 16K villages in Rural Uttaranchal and our target is to
connect them with 1600 Cooperatives. One has already been started in
Kaligaad gram sabha with 5 Villages connected to it. Now we seek your help
in making road map for cooperatives. Your comments, suggestion, data and
drafts are invited.

Regarding Retail chain we are preparing a business plan based on the inputs
collected in Trade Fair, and we will share that business plan with investors
or the guys who wanna take responsibility of that business. As per our
estimate that would be 1440 Mn INR business once established completely for
first phase and expected to grow 200% in 5 Years. Let us know if someone is
interested.

30-6-2008

Prof. G.D. Agrawal ended his 18 days long fast,
After getting assurance from Central and state govt.

At 8.30 PM Prof. G.D. Agarwal ended his 18th days old fast, in a meeting
held at Maharana Pratap Bhawan, where he was continuing his fast after
coming from Uttartkashi.

He demanded, in his own word...... *I strongly believe that at least
Bhagirathi upstream of Uttarkashi should be spared of any works that disturb
it's natural flow-regime, ecology, purity or piety and, after brooding over
it for several months, I have decided to oppose such works with all the
might I have.*

Prof.G.D. Agarwal is a distinguished scientist, first Member-Secretary of
the Government of India's Central Pollution Control Board, former Head of
the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at IIT Kanpur and a
PhD from the University of California, Berkeley.

He starts his fast from 13 June, 2008 in Uttarkashi city, at Manikarnika
Ghat on the bank of Bhagirathi. After 4 days of his fast State Govt. of
Uttarakhand has closed down Bhairon-Ghati HEP and Pala-Maneri HEP. Then he
moved to Delhi to continue his fast in front of Central Govt.

Mr. Shyam K. Gupta, the coordinator of Bhaghirathi Bachao Sankalp said in a
press confrence that commitment made by the Govt. of Iindia, due to the kind
& prompt intervention of the Prime Minister's office & the declaration of
the Govt. of Uttarakhand
to ensure perennial environmental flow in the river Bhagirathi. Dr. G.D.
Agrawal agreed to break his 18 day old fast today.

The letter dated June 30, 2008 issued by the Director (Hydro) Minister of
Power, Govt.
of India said....

*.................I am directed to say that the Government of India commits
itself to suitable ensure perennial environmental flow in all stretches of
river Bhagirathi.
I have to inform you that the Chairman and Managing Director, National
Tharmal Power Corporation has been directed to constitute a high level
expert group, including your nominee, to examine the various technical
issues involved in ensuring the required flow in the river alive. The high
level expert group will give its report within three months.
we shall invite you for discussion as soon as the recommendations of this
high-level expert group are received, in order to arrive at a mutually
acceptable solution.
we would request Prof. G.D. Aggarwal to give up his indefinite
fast.................*

He will take only vegetable not grains for the next three months.
He said I will continue my struggle for free flow of Ganga.

Dear Seema,
In response to your mail, I had given your reference to few needy candidates from our uttranchal.
But apparantely you asked them to deposit some fee towards the placement, is it true?
If it is true then it doesn't make sense to use this group's plateform to run collection centre.
In fact, one should strive to help our people.
Thanks & Regards

Dear All,

As you know we are trying to use the rural resources and urban market to create economic empowerment in rural Hills villages. Before I move forward I would like to share this Video with you all. Just listen what these real Heroes say about rural development.

http://www.ibnlive. com/videos/ 63621/04_ 2 008/rh1904_6a/ real-heroes- special-big- aw ards-night-with- real-stars. html

Now coming to point... as you know we are working on the model of bring native uttaranchali products to Delhi,Mumbai and Lucknow markets by creating co-operatives in Hills and one retail chain in these cities.

As you know we have 16K villages in Rural Uttaranchal and our target is to connect them with 1600 Cooperatives. One has already been started in Kaligaad gram sabha with 5 Villages connected to it. Now we seek your help in making road map for cooperatives. Your comments, suggestion, data and drafts are invited.

Regarding Retail chain we are preparing a business plan based on the inputs collected in Trade Fair, and we will share that business plan with investors or the guys who wanna take responsibility of that business. As per our estimate that would be 1440 Mn INR business once established completely for first phase and expected to grow 200% in 5 Years. Let us know if someone is interested.

9) Distributed Oldies pensions and Teachers/Village Staff salaries.

10) Visited Medical case (Subhash Nath) and found that primary checkup of kid has not been conducted so recovered the 500 INR from the guy who was suppose to take kid for first checkup.
