Dear all
the below article is absolutely the mindset of WE GARWALI people.
we definitely need to change that just make money in 4 months of the year.
U See the rest part of INDIA people love to go there all over the year and that is only because the places have been equipped with the better tranportations/accomodations etc.
lets come together and teach our own people that we should respect the guest as we r known for our hospitality.
let us join our hands and take the responsibilty to improve this.

u all r welcome to call @9871978822
thanks and regard

Namsakar to all the PG members
Mr Himanshu is narrating a true face of tourism in UK.Its very unforutunate
to say all this but its true. Even I have faced all this.
I went to Auli with my wife and booked GM nigam hotel but the condition of room and
food quality in the hotel was below std. and charges were so high...1500/ - per day.
exculding the meals etc.For meals we had to depend on nearby canteen running by a local there.
Auli is one the world famous tourist place known for its beauty, best skiing slopes and longest / highest roopway.
but condition of rooms and food quality is below std. even in nigam hotel.
After that we went to Joshimath , earlier they were charging Rs 950/- per day from us that was jumped to
1500/- per day on the 1st day of May , saying its now tourist season has started from 1st May so we increase the charges , that for the same rooms. For meals we again had to depend on outside.

so perheps its true that presently tourism is in bad taste in Uttarakhand.

thanks

Dear Sir/Madam,

The shrines of Badri-Kedar alongwith Ganotri-Yumnotri always have been receiving great tourist flock. However, i tell you more than a 1/3 tourist is from Uttarakhand only. And majority from South India and Kolkatta. It has two fold reason: One, the idea of pilgrimage and Two, vacations. In recent times, the tourism overall is down in Uttarakhand. I don't know about Himachal, but yes, here in Uttarakhand it is half percent down than the previous year's figure. Some reasons that i was told are - Exorbitant hike in tarrifs, Bad conditions of road and transporation (read as connectivity) and overly priced food articles that's too bad on taste and hygeine. Infact, you would agree that percentage of foreign tourist even has decreased severely. The tourist though willing to pay a little higher over for things but of course seek comfort (for bedding), quality (of food) and smooth journey (through swift roads). The fact seems very true that tourist are being
cheated and so no tourist then returns back to these places and to the places where they have encountered these petty thieves in the form of shops, hotels and of course the transportation. The goverment has demonstarted its incapability to provide security and comfort to the tourist. Infact very much people of Uttarakhand have suffered these conditions. I have been told by a Hotel owner in Ukhimath last month, that this is season time and these 4 months (May-Aug) we receive heavy rush. He continued that i accomodated a Bengali family in my kitchen and charged a 1000 Rs. all i had served them was tea. This example and many e.gs like this display that this tourist is facing problems of inconvenience, and being cheated. Infact i was told by an Old couple from Kumaon region, that they were denied room in a lodge and then later given to some other tourist. The reason, the Uttarakhandis (locals), they don't pay as much a family from Delhi could
pay. Recently in Nainital, i was told the tourist traffic is much lesser this year than pervious ones due to same problems. No tourist even wants to recommend these places to fellow tourists. Same i have heard in Mukteshwar. GMVN/KMVN they have increased tariffs upto 20 percent but have these improved upon the facilities that they provide. NO! The goverment has no regulations and even if they have its only on papers. So who'll listen to the tourist. Already the Uttarakhand based Nigams are making losses. Look at their food quality and serving timings. I have experienced this personally. The situation is so worse that now most of PWD and Forrest Guest Houses have started denying the tourist which they judge based on tourists appearence and paying capablity (otherwise refuse on the terms that DM permission is necessary). How many of us actually no that a common man seek shelter at PWDs and Forrest houses if its available at a moderate cost which
goes to the state govt. and the caretaker has to give but...

Tourism is in bad taste in Uttarakhand. The goverment is sleeping with eyes open and ears closed. Tourist is suffering with a promise not to return back. Common man has loss of employment. And above all, nobody is bothered.... Well what for... until we have our stomachs filled and morals that have rusted inside us.

Thanks and Regards,

Himalayan shrines among the major attractions for the visitors

Himalayas Calling: The famous Hindu pilgrimage shrine of Badrinath has always been a big draw.
All roads seem to be leading to the higher Himalayan shrines, meadows and valleys these days for tourists rushing up the hills of Uttarakhand. Hotels and dharamshalas in Hardwar and Rishikesh are booked to capacity with local entrepreneurs doing brisk business here and all along the yatra route.
The Kedarnath area alone reported a queue of over 5,000 pilgrims trekking up to the shrine on Monday.
The tourists seem to be lapping up the sweet roasted corn, plums and other hill fruits being sold by enterprising children on the roads near the villages. "We have enjoyed the yatra better this time, and if such enthusiasm continues among the local shopkeepers and young entrepreneurs, Uttarakhand will soon graduate to one of the best destinations in the country," observed Seema and her husband J. Mukherjee from Kolkota.
Similar sentiments were aired by Ramaswamy from Bangalore and Santokh Singh from Amritsar.
"According to official estimates, about one lakh visitors have enjoyed a holiday or pilgrimage at Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yamunotri and Gangotri so far this season and a lot more are expected to do so in the next few weeks," said State Tourism Development Board Joint Director A.K. Dwivedi.
The pilgrims and nature-lovers' rush can also be seen at Govindghat from where one treks through a magnificent landscape either to the Sikh shrine of Hemkunt Sahib or the Valley of Flowers.
"Special arrangements have been made to provide better facilities to the visitors. Chief Minister Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri is briefed on the situation every day," said Mr. Dwivedi.
Mr. Dwivedi urged the travellers to follow the road safety rules and lodge a complaint with the local officials if they get a raw deal anywhere. "We come to the Himalayas to enjoy and appreciate nature and should try to return with the choicest memories and not tragedies," he said.

Uttarakhand bus operators not to raise fare !!

Posted by: "KSRAWAT" sooni_ksr00@hotmail.com

Fri Jun 6, 2008 8:46 pm (PDT)

There is good news for the large number of pilgrims coming for darshan to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath in the Uttarakhand hills. The Joint Rotation Transport System Committee, an association of bus operators, has decided not to raise bus fares despite the latest increase in fuel prices by the Centre.Committee president Gambhir Singh Bhandari on Friday said the transporters had decided to bear the losses on account of the fuel price hike themselves so that the pilgrims were not penalised. "This is Dev Bhoomi and we believe in Atithi Devo Bhavo and would like to make the yatra as safe and comfortable for everyone," Mr Bhandari said.
"The gesture is also aimed at attracting a larger number of pilgrims so that the local economy thrives," he added.

Meanwhile, BJP workers burnt effigies of the UPA Government at Vikas Nagar, Roorkee, Haldwani and Almora to protest against the fuel price hike.

BJP CMs reluctant to cut taxes

The steep hike in the prices of petroleum products may have provided a potent political weapon to the BJP, but chief ministers (CMs) of party-ruled states do not seem too eager to slash sales tax on these products to give respite to the people. This despite an appeal by BJP president Rajnath Singh.

Uttarakhand CM BC Khanduri has fired the first salvo, ruling out any sales tax cut on petroleum products. He wants the Centre to first drastically reduce central taxes.

"We have already reduced VAT in Uttarakhand from 12 to 4%. More reduction in taxes will paralyse the state's economy," Khanduri said.

Just for info pls.

I also truely feel after going through these mails , that it is better to communicate in Pahari or Hindi , rather than writing wrong english as well as mispellings and that too, when Spell Check programs are loaded into the computers.

Dear All

While Our Gps gives us their plateform for free flow debates concerning development of our sacred land, I wish to suggest a few of points .

Email is a media to convey and exchange the inner guestures. The mails therefore, should have to be
always touchy ones

I suggest our mail should commence with the words usually spoken in Uttaranchal while writing letters..

like Shri ..Priya ... Bhaiji or Adarneeya Deedi ji in place of "hi "

Similarly in closing Apaka Apna or otherwise Aapaa ku Apnu Hi Bhula ..... or any other touchy feeling ...

2ndly the mail sud be a specific one and not deviating one from subject..... .The arguments should be coarsing swiftly and softly, politely with an aim to induce reader that there was no intention to hurt any one....

in fact it wud be more better if the mail is written in 3rd person.

3rdly we must always post the noticeable development in the area of each of us for the information of others. so that everyone can be aware with the social , economical and public welfare development .

Coz it seems many of our ppl are not un aware about the development happening in the UA and have Still grief image. It boosts the morale of other fellow readers

This wud be form a part of transperencey and at the same time wud boost morale of our ppl.

In case any mail discharging a little of heat shud be always addressed to Mod of group and not the Gp or any individual itslef. The Moderator would check for the heat if any and may edit or re-word before release...

The dilects, phrases (aukhaan) of Uttaranchali in the local dialect can play a vital rol in furnishing the mail..

As Gps emerging as a common platform to exchange our views, so we all sud share our perspective on the current economical , social and educational but never political, Cast Creed..

Let us always neglect the debates like a rift between Shri N.D.Tiwari and Shri Naraneder Singh Negi ,

There is no harm if our mail shows full address of uttaranchal ....this is going to be again touchy... and leaving a impact ..

If these things are taken care of..I am sure that we will find our Uttaranchal a heavenly Abode on earth .

Plant BirthDay Tree: Save Environment and Hills

Posted by: "Deepak Dhyani" deepakdhyani@yahoo.com deepakdhyani

Thu Jun 5, 2008 9:27 am (PDT)

Dear All,

Today is world environment day. Our "Paryavaran" is the only thing which makes this planet (Earth) so special and only planet where life is possible. "Environment Day" reminds us to preserve the same and pass a healthy environment to our next generation.

And in this regard the 1st thing comes to our mind is Trees….. Plant new one and save existing one…. In this regard I remember one old concept given by Arun and Vishu… Plant Birth Day Tree…. Idea was about planting Few number of trees on the occasion of ones own BirthDay and then taking care of them….

I am sure we all want to plant trees and willing to support the cause but main problem is our busy schedule…. Most of us may not find the time to plant tree or may not find the place to plant it and in case we are able to plant few in some location then we might not be able to take care of the plant…. And that's very practical and understandable…. We all are professional and damm busy…

So we have a solution…. As you know we are working as a Platform for all of them who wanna contribute for social cause… so we can use our platform for this cause also…. We have an Inter Collage and a Village…. there we have lots of Kids…. And we all know most of our Hills are without Trees….. to stop them from more degradation and to preserve Watar/Soil we need to plant Trees…. "Banjh" / "Akhroot" tree would be the best for this Cause…. So when ever anyone has his BDay and wanna plant few trees… He/She may give the cost for Trees and Plantation…. And Some Yearly amount to Students for watering and taking care of those Tree… we will assign one kid from the village or School to plant trees and take care of them… he/she will send you yearly report about those trees… and due to all activity will be at common place so when ever we will visit the place we will bring snaps for u…

One can go for Banjh Tree or Fruit trees…. So lemme know who all are interested and revert back if you have any query or comments or suggestions…

Namaskar,

The thought is upto the point and next time we ( atleast I will take care
of it).

But than I humbly ask you a question why did you start the letter with
"dear all" rather "mere Uttrakhandi Bhula aur bhuli" etc. when you are
saying "
*I suggest our mail should commence with the words usually spoken
in Uttaranchal while writing letters.. *
**
*like Shri ..Priya ... Bhaiji or Adarneeya Deedi ji in place of "hi " *
**
*coz this "hi" word is neither ours nor does it conform our
Sanskrity(strong culture)
*

*Similarly in closing Apaka Apna or otherwise Aapaa ku Apnu Hi Bhula * "

If I am wrong please do correct me.

The other points are also to the point as hardly think of them , good
thoughts.

regards

Meenakshi

Experience varies from person to person. Two years back I visited Kedar-Badri along with my friends. We got very good accomodation and food at reasonable rates.
However it is true that we are not professional in our approach towards visitors and even the behaviour in general is not good. Food quality is questionable at many places. We got best food at badrinath and the hotel was run by a Punjabi.

One of the reason could be the tourism is for short period and people have tendency to recover as much as possible which is deterimental in long term. We should not look towards govt. for improvement, when evry where the talk is for privatisation. It is basically the understanding of business, and we lack in this. How many places you have seen the rates are fixed and not negotiable. The professional people have to enter into this field and make things right.

One answer to problem could be round the year tourism flow and making some places worth for visit in off season also and not only for pligrimage but for general purpose. Here govt. can plan to develop some places by giving tax holidays, investing in infrastructure etc.

Lets hope for good results. Wishing happy journey and comfortable stay to visitors.

Namsakar to all the PG membersMr Himanshu is narrating a true face of tourism in UK.Its very unforutunateto say all this but its true. Even I have faced all this.I went to Auli with my wife and booked GM nigam hotel but the condition of room and food quality in the hotel was below std. and charges were so high...1500/- per day.exculding the meals etc.For meals we had to depend on nearby canteen running by a local there.Auli is one the world famous tourist place known for its beauty, best skiing slopes and longest / highest roopway.but condition of rooms and food quality is below std. even in nigam hotel. After that we went to Joshimath , earlier they were charging Rs 950/- per day from us that was jumped to1500/- per day on the 1st day of May , saying its now tourist season has started from 1st May so we increase the charges , that for the same rooms. For meals we again had to depend on outside.so perheps its true that presently tourism is in bad taste in Uttarakhand.thanksAnil Rawat

The fact seems very true that tourist are being cheated and so no tourist then returns back to these places and to the places where they have encountered these petty thieves in the form of shops, hotels and of course the transportation. The reason, the Uttarakhandis (locals), they don't pay as much a family from Delhi could pay. How many of us actually no that a common man seek shelter at PWDs and Forrest houses if its available at a moderate cost which goes to the state govt. and the caretaker has to give but...

Dear Himanshu:

There is no doubt that the Government is sleeping over many

crucial issues concerning our people but have we not seen that all

successive Govts in the past or rather entire Bureaucratic Machinery

of the State Governments have always been found sleeping over the

issues of public interest for past over 6 decades now?.

We cannot expect a miracle from Khanduriji's govt either. True

to their habits, our bureaucratic machinery moves like a slow old

elephant. Hundreds of problems can be solved in quick time if the

State Govt wakes up to some action, but Alas No ! they are not

even even aware perhaps what needs to be done. Government is

to become an unbearable libility for the people of the state in the

near future, if we do not bring in some drastic changes in our systems.

But there is a lot that can be done by the people of Uttarakhand

themselves weather or not Government is willing to help. Even in

the Tourism Sector there is tremendous potential yet to be tapped

which can bring ABUNDANCE in the lives of our people who, in one

way or the other, are related to Tourism Industry.

In wake of new problems touching our Uttarakhand, it is we the

people of Uttarakhand, who have to take command and stay in-

charge of improving the plight of our people.

Adopting a Co-operative approach we can do a lot..! We need a

few commited people to come forward..!

Hi! All,

A Gentle reminder!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apart from office space and stuff we need following things:

1) Can some teach our guys about basic usages of computer (MS Office, Internet)? Guy will come to you as and when you will call him... (For NCR members only)

2) Can some one help us taking care of office communication from his/her home itself by replying mails and sending mails to members in per-specified format along with some data entry work? (For all members)

3) Can some one give permission to use his/her computer to our office guy for few hours during any 2days of the week (in their presence) to send communication to us and type office docs? (For NCR members only)

Namaskar,

The thought is upto the point and next time we ( atleast I will take care of it).

But than I humbly ask you a question why did you start the letter with "dear all" rather "mere Uttrakhandi Bhula aur bhuli" etc. when you are saying "
I suggest our mail should commence with the words usually spoken in Uttaranchal while writing letters..

like Shri ..Priya ... Bhaiji or Adarneeya Deedi ji in place of "hi "

coz this "hi" word is neither ours nor does it conform our Sanskrity (strong culture)

Similarly in closing Apaka Apna or otherwise Aapaa ku Apnu Hi Bhula "

If I am wrong please do correct me.

The other points are also to the point as hardly think of them , good thoughts.

regards

Meenakshi

Email is a media to convey and exchange the inner guestures. The mails therefore, should have to be
always touchy ones

I suggest our mail should commence with the words usually spoken in Uttaranchal while writing letters..

like Shri ..Priya ... Bhaiji or Adarneeya Deedi ji in place of "hi "

Tourists flock to Uttarakhand

Posted by: "KSRAWAT" sooni_ksr00@hotmail.com

Tue Jun 3, 2008 4:27 am (PDT)

Re: Tourists flock to Uttarakhand

Posted by: "Himanshu" himanshudutt@gmail.com

Tue Jun 3, 2008 11:05 pm (PDT)

Dear Sir/Madam,

The shrines of Badri-Kedar alongwith Ganotri-Yumnotri always have been
receiving great tourist flock. However, i tell you more than a 1/3 tourist
is from Uttarakhand only. And majority from South India and Kolkatta. It has
two fold reason: One, the idea of pilgrimage and Two, vacations. In recent
times, the tourism overall is down in Uttarakhand. I don't know about
Himachal, but yes, here in Uttarakhand it is half percent down than the
previous year's figure. Some reasons that i was told are - Exorbitant hike
in tarrifs, Bad conditions of road and transporation (read as connectivity)
and overly priced food articles that's too bad on taste and hygeine. Infact,
you would agree that percentage of foreign tourist even has decreased
severely. The tourist though willing to pay a little higher over for things
but of course seek comfort (for bedding), quality (of food) and smooth
journey (through swift roads). The fact seems very true that tourist are
being cheated and so no tourist then returns back to these places and to the
places where they have encountered these petty thieves in the form of shops,
hotels and of course the transportation. The goverment has demonstarted its
incapability to provide security and comfort to the tourist. Infact very
much people of Uttarakhand have suffered these conditions. I have been told
by a Hotel owner in Ukhimath last month, that this is season time and
these 4 months (May-Aug) we receive heavy rush. He continued that i
accomodated a Bengali family in my kitchen and charged a 1000 Rs. all i had
served them was tea. This example and many e.gs like this display that this
tourist is facing problems of inconvenience, and being cheated. Infact i was
told by an Old couple from Kumaon region, that they were denied room in a
lodge and then later given to some other tourist. The reason, the
Uttarakhandis (locals), they don't pay as much a family from Delhi could
pay. Recently in Nainital, i was told the tourist traffic is much lesser
this year than pervious ones due to same problems. No tourist even wants to
recommend these places to fellow tourists. Same i have heard in Mukteshwar.
GMVN/KMVN they have increased tariffs upto 20 percent but have these
improved upon the facilities that they provide. NO! The goverment has no
regulations and even if they have its only on papers. So who'll listen to
the tourist. Already the Uttarakhand based Nigams are making losses. Look at
their food quality and serving timings. I have experienced this
personally. The situation is so worse that now most of PWD and Forrest Guest
Houses have started denying the tourist which they judge based on tourists
appearence and paying capablity (otherwise refuse on the terms that DM
permission is necessary). How many of us actually no that a common man seek
shelter at PWDs and Forrest houses if its available at a moderate cost which
goes to the state govt. and the caretaker has to give but...

Tourism is in bad taste in Uttarakhand. The goverment is sleeping with eyes
open and ears closed. Tourist is suffering with a promise not to return
back. Common man has loss of employment. And above all, nobody is
bothered.... Well what for... until we have our stomachs filled and morals
that have rusted inside us.

Thanks and Regards,

Himanshu Dutt Jakhmola

Re: Tourists flock to Uttarakhand

Namsakar to all the PG members
Mr Himanshu is narrating a true face of tourism in UK.Its very unforutunate
to say all this but its true. Even I have faced all this.
I went to Auli with my wife and booked GM nigam hotel but the condition of
room and
food quality in the hotel was below std. and charges were so high...1500/-
per day.
exculding the meals etc.For meals we had to depend on nearby canteen
running by a local there.
Auli is one the world famous tourist place known for its beauty, best
skiing slopes and longest / highest roopway.
but condition of rooms and food quality is below std. even in nigam hotel.
After that we went to Joshimath , earlier they were charging Rs 950/- per
day from us that was jumped to
1500/- per day on the 1st day of May , saying its now tourist season has
started from 1st May so we increase the charges , that for the same
rooms. For meals we again had to depend on outside.

so perheps its true that presently tourism is in bad taste in Uttarakhand.

Hi,

Yes, Ujad Hote Pahad ke Gaon, indeed reflects a great social concern but i
agree with the constraints that a common man living on Pahad faces. Neeraj
Joshi has very well pointed out the facts about umemployment which is
prevailing at large. I completely agree with the author and feel sorry for
such a state of Hills...

Thanks Ved Ji, for the article.

To: foundation_shurwaat@yahoogroups.com

Dear Deepak,

This idea came to my mind from a similar project run by the Dept of
Sci and tech with help of an NGO in some villages of Almora a few yrs
ago. In other countries they start the project for children of class
3 with-'know ur class room. Each child prepares a plan (map) of the
classroom. It shows the location of the blackboard, teacher's chair,
seating arrangement etc. Children are given simple ideas of
proportion. For ex the largest object in the class is a black board,
compared to tht the teacher's pen will not be visible in the map bec
of the scale.
The next stage is 'know ur school' for students of class VI. They
show location of various trees, water tap, naula, entrance to school
etc. In other words this makes them aware of their surroundings.
Further skills are developed wen kids start with 'know ur village'
maps-class IX onwards. To do this one needs a hand held GPS and a
laptop for full efficiency. Without them one can do it with
approximation (no harm in tht) but recording data becomes easier with
a lap top. But to begin with a field notebook can be given to kids.
Each one of them notes in his note book and at the end of the work
one with best hand writing records all the inofrmation in the field
note book.
The record runs as under:
date.
traverse from: Mohan's house to naula east of village-distance
(.....paces) . Pacing shud be done preferably by one boy/gal only.
His/her pace can be measured on a known distance on a flat ground.
Average pace of a child is around 70 cm. Thus if he/she walks and
counts 100 paces the approximate horizontal distance can be found.
Sense of direction has to be developed with ref to Sun.
Students will record each and every detail-like dump of garbage in
front of pooran chandras house, corner of Kahti's field being used as
shit ground, drain choked in front of lala's res etc.
These details u will find after a few months are of amazing help. Bec
if the village has a large num of trees, lots of shrubs and grass-it
means theres no dearth of water there. If the village is surrounded
by pine trees then water is there but at a depth. If there are lots
of oak trees and buransh then water is definitely there and the like..
U r doing a wonderful job, wat I wanted to tell u was tht it is
better to know ur adversary before u tackle him. Thus know ur
class/school/ home/village/ block programme will go a long way. This is
a continuous process and data keeps pouring-later information can be
formulated out of it.
School kids are ideal work force for tht. Use them only wen they are
free and never use the for more than an hour or so. Make it a playful
thing for them. reward them for gud work and encourage the shirkers.
Due to my personal committments am unable to come else I wud have
gone to one of the villages, camped there for a month and taught them.
Reg rain water harvesting I suggest pl read a series of articles I
have published in boloji.com. Link is given in my orkut home page. I
have covered RWH in hills in tha and also past practices. RWH is not
simply drilling a hole and allowing rain water to go in. It is much
more. One shud use simpler and cheaper methods. One can make a
surface tank where the water with help of drains can be diverted fr
village houses. The tank can then be covered with large polythene.
Tank can be of masonry too. Some enterprising people have purchased
old hosues in Kasardevi area in Almora. They havent changed the
architecture of the house. Instead just connected the roof water
drains to a masonry tank. Those tanks serve for their needs of
growing veg and flowers round the yr plus they use it in the flush
too. One can even attach a filtration plant and use it for drinking.

Hi! Anamika/All,

Its our mistake... We shd ve mentioned it earlier.

Actually there are 2 set of Students:

1) Who are not going to School (Age 3-8 Years)
2) Who are going to school but lacking due to English, Personality and Maths (5 to 15 Years)

Now , For the first set of Students we are teaching them thru regular methods.. so nothing required for them.

Now For 2nd Type students Age and Class doesn't matter... as they all are at same stage for English, Calculations, Personality and Moral Education.

So you all can help us in designing course for very basic level, assuming Kids of Class 1st.... and same will be applicable for first Year at least.....

We need to create Monthly module.... and start with very basic level but interesting. ... we need to cover that gap between Village School and City Schools... in term of Basic level Personality and confidence.. ..

type of books u mentioned"Practical and Spoken English through Poems and usual words/sentences. ... Calculation thru nice stories and Quiz... Moral edu to tell them whats gud and wats bad since childhood'' are already there in the market and many schools have these in their syllabus....

i want to know the age group and class of kids attending our school.depending on their age we can look for the books and then design syllabus.fun learning books in easy language both hindi and eng are also available for quick maths, science ,gk etc.
we can get a set of these books and give it to village teacher

Dear Deepak jee,

We can use few magazines or books for moral stories...and iam very much positive that stories from these books and magazines will improve there knowledge, moral, cultural values...
childrens can learn many things from these but keep in mind as childrens in village schools generally poor in reading and understanding (good hindi) and thus reluctant... so it is a advise to have some teacher for them to do this for them....

also we should emphases on hindi books for stories as it is too much to expect from them to understand english and this make them reluctant... ...

above is my experience.. ..

- chandamama --- 175/- approx yearly subscription. .
- amar chitr katha....
- Jatak katha, panchatantra, betal pacheesee etc....there are many publishers
any body can sponser magazines... .

Dear All...

Would like to explain u the purpose of Village School... (other than Kulanikhal Inter Collage)...

We are not Running that school as normal school.... we wanna teach kids those portions which they are not getting in their regular school... Like Practical and Spoken English through Poems and usual words/sentences. ... Calculation thru nice stories and Quiz... Moral edu to tell them whats gud and wats bad since childhood... Games to improve personality and analytical power.... and same can't be found in any one book.. we need to design this course keeping kids mentality in mind..

Dear all, most of them from you ve asked me this question that what can we do remotely... this is the task you can do remotely... Kindly help us in designing course and contents with regular updates...

U are already aware that foundation shuruwaat is working for upliftment of rural people from Kaaligaad and that we are running a kids school there to teach them what they are not getting in regular School. As per our objectives we are now planning to design a new syllabus for Moral Education and personality development of village children so that rural kids may gain confidence and can compete with urban kids at same level.
To achieve our objective inputs are required from all the members of our team.

I would like to have suggestions and ideas from u all on what should be included in syllabus.
I am listing the subjects which will be incorporated in the course
1. Basic useful English with its meaning like Poems/Text/Grammer
2. Quick maths with Example and interesting Facts and Tricks
3. Moral stories and Songs
4. GK and Personility Development Lessons

Hoping to get positive response from all the members.

LIVE CHAT WITH MULTI-SKILLED PERSONALITY – SHREE ASHOK MALL
JI

Dosto,

It gives me great pleasure to inform you that we are going to
conduct LIVE CHAT with a multi-skilled personality, Actor,
Director, Producer of Uttarakhandi Movies Shree Ashok Mall Ji on
merapahad.com on 04 June 08 at 1100 hrs onwards..

I am sure you must be knowing this great personality of
Uttarakhand Cinema. However, I would like give a brief
introduction about Ashok Mall Ji. Shree Ashok Mall Ji hails from
Pithoragarh District of Uttarakhand. He is in this field since
1980 and is presently based in Mumbai. In initial days of his
career, he came in touch with Charan Singh Chauhan. In fact, he
was the first person who dreamt for Uttarakhandi Movie. Later
with Parasar Gaur, they made "Jagwal' which is perhaps
the first Uttarakhandi Movie. During these more than 20 yrs in
this field, he has worked in enumerable films / videos. Kindly
have a look on his career major films :-

- First Movie Jagwal..
- Worked on 'Kabhi Sukh Kabhi Dukh'
produced by B.K.Naudiyal (Sharma) in which Mukesh Dhasmana was in
lead role.
- Third movie was 'Ghar Jawai'
which proved to be a milestone in the uttarakhandi films produced
by late B.D.Nautiyal ,film was brought in the floor by late
Charan Singh Chauhan(also called as Pitamah Bhism) due to some
circumstances behind the screen Chauhan ji left the film and his
chief assistance Mr.TaranTaaran Dhasmana became Director. Till
this point he was working behind the screen with Chauhan ji
as assistant.
- Then Chauhan ji planned to make
film 'kautheeg' in which he played a Lead Role
- At same time first Kumauni movie
'Megha Aa' came in to existence where he played the main villain
as 'Ganga Singh' .
- After that Video films started to
come on the floor and his other big screen movies were 'Batwaru
,Chakrachaal, Meri ganga holi ta main ma aali' etc
- In addition to this, he has also
worked in hindi movies like " Kshma Kar Do" etc.

Presently, he has started producing and directing hiws own movies
under his own banner of ''Raj films and culture like film
'Pithe ki Laaj','Hari Darshan', already released and album 'Cho
cham chaka cham' and have many films videos are the on floor.
It will not be exaggeration, if we say Ashok Mall Ji, one of the
founders of Uttarkhandi Movies. One of the interesting facts is
that Shree Ashok Mall Ji is fluent in Kumoani, Garwali and
Jaunsari languages of Uttarakhand. Apart from this, he has also
been doing " Marathi Natak". One more that, I would
like to share with you about Ashok Mall JI is that Mr Mall
never takes a single coin of any Pahadi Play which he performs.

Today many people of Uttarakhand are coming in this field. This
is just because of the hard-work, dedication and passion of these
people who gave a foundation to Uttarahandi Movies / Music
Albums. We are sure in coming future, Uttarakhandi Music/ Films
will scale a new heights under the supervision / command of
people like Shree Ashok Mall Ji.

So friends, here is an opportunity for all of us to have live
discussion (chat) with this multi-skilled personality on 04 June
2008 at 1100 hrs onwards. Hope you will grab this opportunity and
can ask a lot of questions related to Uttarakhandi Movies / Music
to Shree Mall Ji and his up-coming projects. Here is the link

Subject: [Kumauni-Garhwali] RUDRAPRAYAG: Mechanic brings light to his village

MAIL TODAY

By Raju Gusain in Khor (Rudraprayag)
http://www.mailtoda y.in/showstory. aspx?queryed= 9&querypage= 12&boxid= 1536490&parentid =6704&eddate= May%2030% 202008%2012: 00AM

NO MOTORABLE road, primary health centre, government-
supplied electricity, post office or telephone! Khor
village in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand, is like other
remote villages in the state. But the successful
experiment of producing electricity through awatermill
(gharat )by a retired Border Roads Organisations (BRO)
senior mechanic, Pushkar Singh Bhandari, make Khor
special. Bhandaris efforts have brought light in the
village where government electricity lines have not
reached so far. He has used his watermill in an
innovative way to light the houses of about 40
families for the past 12 years. Bhandari tapped water
near the village and took it to his watermill through
asmall canal by installing pipes. In 1996, Bhandari
set up awatermill in the village. On Diwali that year,
the villagers lit up their homes with the power supply
provided by Bhandari. The 60- year- old says: "Earlier
villagers used to travel 2km on foot to grind the
grains. After retiring from BRO, Iset up awatermill,
200 metres from my village. Iwas amazed to see that
the mill can grind 30 kg wheat per hour. This made me
believe that Icould generate electricity through my
watermill. I worked as a mechanic and also obtained
knowledge on electricity during my 28 years of
service." Bhandari spent money from his retirement
pension. He bought an alternator from Rishikesh and an
electric load control from Saharanpur. He designed
ahorizontal turbine with 24 blades to produce about
5kilowatt of electricity. He spent Rs 35,000, fixing
electric lines on wooden poles. Bacchi Ram Dhyani, an
80- year- old from the neighbouring Dangi village,
recalling the 1996 Diwali, said: "People from
neighbouring villages came to Khor. Many old people
saw electricity for the first time in their life." As
a token maintenance charge, Bhandari charges each
family Rs 50 per month. He provides electricity for
six hours —from 6pm to midnight and rest of the time
the watermill grinds foodgrains. During wedding
ceremonies, he charges Rs 300 to 500 for three nights,
for supplying electricity. Due to shortage of water
the electric supply remains suspended in summer for
three months. From April to June bright sunshine
prevails and the villagers use solar power instead.
Last year the Alternate Hydro Energy Centre conducted
tested the turbine made by Bhandari. The IIT team
recorded 4.73 kilowatt output. Bhandari is happy to
share his expertise with others. He has helped many
villagers in setting up watermills with micro hydro
centres at places such as Ghinthana, Jakhnayali,
Ghulteer, Raidi, Rodu Sirsoli, Matthyagoan, Bhiri,
Silgoat, Bioghat and Lamgoan. The government has
decided to install electricity poles in Khor. Power is
likely to reach here by 2009

VERY GOOD STORY ABOUT THE KAPHAL

Kaphal, Kafal Pakko, meil ni chakkho (Kaphal has ripened, but I have not
yet tasted the same)

Ye ka phal hai? (What's this fruit?) An interesting story of a tourist
about Kaphal is sometimes narrated by the people: Ye ka phal hai,
enquired a tourist coming from the plains. The Kaphal seller boy said ye
Kaphal hai. (This is Kaphal). He again put the same question, ye ka phal
hai, the reply was again ye kaphal hai. Hot talks between the got
converted in to a squabble. The matter ended when someone intervened and
told the tourist that the name of this fruit is Kaphal and the tourist
and the kaphal boy both started smiling.

Kaphal pakko, meil ni chakkho (Kaphal has ripened, but I have not
yet tasted the same) is the pathetic explanation of a little girl who
died of severe beating by her mother. The story goes that once a Woman
picked up Kaphals from the Kaphal tree. After toiling hard for the whole
day, she could pick up a basket-full of Kaphals. At home she asked her
daughter to look after the Kaphal basket and not to eat Kaphal. The
little girl kept a strict vigil on the basket and slept for a while.
When her mother reached home, she observed that the weight of the basket
had gone down. She suspected that the little girl must have eaten away
the Kaphals. In fact she wanted to sell the Kaphals next day to cater to
the daily needs of the house. But when she felt that the Kaphals were
eaten away by her daughter, she gave her a severe beating. The girl was
continuously crying and was saying that the she had not tasted the
Kaphals. Due to excessive beating the girl died. It was the month of
May. In fact due to the scorching heat of the summer the Kaphals had
dried up, hence the basket full of Kaphals lost weight. But in the
afternoon there was a severe downpour and the Kaphals became juicy once
again. The mother observed that the Kaphal basket had once again
regained weight. Kaphals had become juicy once again due to rains. She
repented, but the little girl had expired. After her death she took
birth as a bird Magpie. After her birth as a Magpie the bird chatters,
Kaphal Pakko, meil ni chakkho. People of the hills instinctively feel
the pathetic message which the bird delivers through her above song and
remember the little girl.

Yet another story says that a young bride says to her mother-in-law:
"O! My mother-in-law Kaphal has ripened. Burdened by the unending cycle
of reaping, winnowing, sowing, weeding, wood cutting and fetching water
from long distance, shall I ever have enough of leisure to taste Kaphals
in the jungle while traversing the trail that leads to my mother's
home?" So sang a Kumaoni bride ages back and trapped in a vicious circle
of hard life when she lost her life untimely, she became a Magpie, a
beautiful bird who, when the Kaphal ripens in Himalayan jungles in the
month of May and June often sings, "Kaphal pakko, meil ni chakkho"
(kaphal has ripened but I couldn't taste it yet).

A small poem on Kaphal reads:

The 'kaphal' fruit is ripe Come dear friend - Let us go to the forest
To eat the fruit of the 'kaphal' bush The leaves of the Oak tree have
turned green There is water in the roots of the Oak Come, quench your
thirst.

Kaphal, Kafal or Kaiphal (Myrica Esculenta) is a sub-temperate
moderate-sized ever green tree varying from 3 to 15 Metre from place to
place is found throughout the mid-Himalayas, between heights of 900
metres to 2,100 metres above sea level. The tree yields a fruit of the
cherry size are reddish or cheese coloured when ripe and is one of the
tastiest wild fruits of the sub-Himalayan region. It is a wonder fruit
with high medicinal value. The fruits are edible. They are considered
pectoral, sedative, stomachic and carminative. They have pleasant
sourish sweet taste and used in preparing refreshing drink. The fruits
are eaten raw not only in India but in China, Japan and Europe as well.
It is a small fruit with a bigger seed than the part that matters. You
can eat it all day long (or till your tongue goes sore) as it does no
harm and actually. Kaphal helps your digestive system.

The bark of Kaphal is said to possess many medicinal properties. It
is heat stimulating and useful in catarrhal fever, cough and in the
affections of the throat. Oil prepared from it is dropped into ears to
stop. The small, seedy fruits are sweet, with a pleasant blend of acid.
They are very attractive. The overall fruit quality is excellent. It
normally yields 15 to 25 Kg. Kaphals per tree depending upon the size of
the tree. The small seedy fruits of Kaphal are very much liked by all for
their taste and juiciness. With the onset of summer, the Kaphal starts
ripening and the villagers start picking the Kaphals from the forests
and sell it in towns. Sometimes they have to face the wrath of the
Forest Guards, who however lets them go in exchange for a pocket full of
Kaphals. In the adjoining towns, the fruits easily sell @ 40 to 50
rupees a kg. Every year the fruit of this tree, worth thousands of
rupees, is sold in towns. It is a good source of extra income for the
villagers, which in peak season fetches 200 to 250 per day or so.The
major problem in the case of this fruit is that the harvesting period is
too long and fruits from a single tree have to be harvested in many
pickings. However, this is the only cost involved in the case of this
fruit, the numerous trees bearing which are growing wild in the forests.
This cost can, therefore, be overlooked. Yet another problem is that the
harvest from the Kaphals tree is not the same every year. It is
dependant upon good rains. If it rains at the time of ripening, the
fruit becomes juicy but if it does not rain the juicy content is lost.
In any case the Kaphal gives some sort of employment to the villagers at
least for sometimes.
The fruits, unfortunately, are not good keepers and their shelf-life
does not exceed 2-3 days. As already mentioned under chemical
composition, these fruits are fairly juicy and the percentage of
extractable juice is about 40 per cent. The juice has a very attractive
sparkling red colour. If the juice of Kaphal is prepared it would be an
additional source of income for the people. Further it has medicinal
properties especially in Ayurveda. Uttarakhand Government should make
efforts to standardize a technique for its utilization.

Mechanic brings light to his village

By Raju Gusain in Khor (Rudraprayag)

NO MOTORABLE road, primary health centre, government- supplied electricity, post office or telephone! Khor village in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand, is like other remote villages in the state. But the successful experiment of producing electricity through awatermill (gharat )by a retired Border Roads Organisation' s (BRO) senior mechanic, Pushkar Singh Bhandari, make Khor special. Bhandari's efforts have brought light in the village where government electricity lines have not reached so far. He has used his watermill in an innovative way to light the houses of about 40 families for the past 12 years. Bhandari tapped water near the village and took it to his watermill through asmall canal by installing pipes. In 1996, Bhandari set up awatermill in the village. On Diwali that year, the villagers lit up their homes with the power supply provided by Bhandari. The 60- year- old says: "Earlier villagers used to travel 2km on foot to grind the grains. After retiring
from BRO, Iset up awatermill, 200 metres from my village. Iwas amazed to see that the mill can grind 30 kg wheat per hour. This made me believe that Icould generate electricity through my watermill. I worked as a mechanic and also obtained knowledge on electricity during my 28 years of service." Bhandari spent money from his retirement pension. He bought an alternator from Rishikesh and an electric load control from Saharanpur . He designed ahorizontal turbine with 24 blades to produce about 5kilowatt of electricity. He spent Rs 35,000, fixing electric lines on wooden poles. Bacchi Ram Dhyani, an 80- year- old from the neighbouring Dangi village, recalling the 1996 Diwali, said: "People from neighbouring villages came to Khor. Many old people saw electricity for the first time in their life." As a token maintenance charge, Bhandari charges each family Rs 50 per month. He provides electricity for six hours —from 6pm to midnight and rest of the time the
watermill grinds foodgrains. During wedding ceremonies, he charges Rs 300 to 500 for three nights, for supplying electricity. Due to shortage of water the electric supply remains suspended in summer for three months. From April to June bright sunshine prevails and the villagers use solar power instead. Last year the Alternate Hydro Energy Centre conducted tested the turbine made by Bhandari. The IIT team recorded 4.73 kilowatt output. Bhandari is happy to share his expertise with others. He has helped many villagers in setting up watermills with micro hydro centres at places such as Ghinthana, Jakhnayali, Ghulteer, Raidi, Rodu Sirsoli, Matthyagoan, Bhiri, Silgoat, Bioghat and Lamgoan. The government has decided to install electricity poles in Khor. Power is likely to reach here by 2009.

Pushkar Singh Bhandari... a real inspiration to us. We salute you Sir. And thanks to Raju Gusain and Mail Today for bringing us the this inspiring tale.

Regards,

Himanshu

BALANCING YOUR SUCCESS

Posted by: "Mrs. C K Pandey" ckpandey2005@yahoo.com ckpandey2005

Sun Jun 1, 2008 8:50 pm (PDT)

Most people live their lives like they watch the television. The remote control is in their hands and they have the power to change the channel to any show they can possibly imagine. But they don't. There is opportunity to experience anything they can dream. But they don't do anything. They are content to simply watch whatever is on, rather than choose what they really want.

The most important beginning principle for creating greatness in your life is to recognize and then utilize the principle of personal power and personal accountability. Every person comes with the built in ability to choose their actions and reactions for any given set of circumstances. How we use this ability will ultimately determine all of the outcomes we will experience in our lives. Those who attain the greatest successes in life do so, not because their circumstances have been dramatically different from others, but because their choices have been. It is our personal choices and accountability that have the most significant impact on the kind of lives we will lead.

Many people do not realize that even the so-called little moments can have great impact and it may be easy to justify not giving our attention to them because the consequences may not be immediately apparent. However, an ancient proverb shares this great truth in a different way; "The greatest walls are built with the smallest bricks, " Our lives are the same, and we must begin with the little things.

Now, how will you know which little things really deserve your attention ? There is an easy solution for us in prioritizing all things. Before beginning to sort out life things we need to have a system in place. It's like building a puzzle. In order for the little pieces to be productive and have value we need to understand what the big picture looks like. Our big picture is essentially defining what we want our life to look like, who we want to be and the legacy we want to leave behind.

Many people do not invest the time to answer these important questions. However, if you can do this one step at a time, you will find that all your questions will instantly become clear, and you'll be on your path to success. But what is success ? The definition is different for every individual, and only you can define your view of success. Understand that success is a journey and not a destination. It can never be a spot of permanent completion. Success is akin to continual growth. Success is a matter of finding appropriate balance while you are in motion rather than finding a comfortable resting place to stagnate.

Lasting success is found in the balance of 4 independent elements :

Your feelings about wealth – Success in this area is not based on a specific number on a bank statement. In fact, it has very little to do with money. But it has everything to do with how you feel about what you have. Do you have enough to meet your obligations ? to live the life you choose ? To be free to pursue the things which are meaningful to you ? There are many people who are extremely rich, but not wealth. How do you feel about your currently level of abundance or wealth ?

Your feelings about your health – Success has very little to do with quantity of a given thing or an outside measurement. Instead, it has everything to do with the feelings relating to a certain thing. There are many who suffer from disease, disability and challenge who feel very successful in this area. Your feelings about your own health are the important consideration for this issue.

Your feelings about your relationships – "No success can compensate for failure in the home ". Everything start in the home, but relationships also include everyone you interact with. The fullness of success is only enjoyed when we have the ability to share it with another.

Your feelings about your self achievement, dreams and spirituality – What are your inner most yearnings ? What is your connection to things of the spirit ? How do feel about these things ? Are your needs being met in this area ? In some ways this area is slightly more important than the others. It's really more of a foundation than a pillar. Until you have these elements being met in your life you cannot inspire or lift another to their greatness. Without this, you are a lot like a lifeguard who can't swim. When you know who you are and you are confident you are headed in the right direction, magical things happen for you and those around you.

Take a moment right now and stop what you are doing … invest this time in you. Take a careful look at these four areas in your life and consider how satisfied you feel about them.

electric load control from Saharanpur. He designed
ahorizontal turbine with 24 blades to produce about
5kilowatt of electricity. He spent Rs 35,000, fixing
electric lines on wooden poles. Bacchi Ram Dhyani, an
80- year- old from the neighbouring Dangi village,
recalling the 1996 Diwali, said: "People from
neighbouring villages came to Khor. Many old people
saw electricity for the first time in their life." As
a token maintenance charge, Bhandari charges each
family Rs 50 per month. He provides electricity for
six hours —from 6pm to midnight and rest of the time
the watermill grinds foodgrains. During wedding
ceremonies, he charges Rs 300 to 500 for three nights,
for supplying electricity. Due to shortage of water
the electric supply remains suspended in summer for
three months. From April to June bright sunshine
prevails and the villagers use solar power instead.
Last year the Alternate Hydro Energy Centre conducted
tested the turbine made by Bhandari. The IIT team
recorded 4.73 kilowatt output. Bhandari is happy to
share his expertise with others. He has helped many
villagers in setting up watermills with micro hydro
centres at places such as Ghinthana, Jakhnayali,
Ghulteer, Raidi, Rodu Sirsoli, Matthyagoan, Bhiri,
Silgoat, Bioghat and Lamgoan. The government has
decided to install electricity poles in Khor. Power is
likely to reach here by 2009

*Mechanic brings light to his village*

** ** *NO MOTORABLE road, primary health centre, government- supplied
electricity, post office or telephone! Khor village in Rudraprayag,
Uttarakhand, is like other remote villages in the state. But the successful
experiment of producing electricity through awatermill (gharat )by a retired
Border Roads Organisations (BRO) senior mechanic, Pushkar Singh Bhandari,
make Khor special. *
**
*Bhandaris efforts have brought light in the village where government
electricity lines have not reached so far. He has used his watermill in an
innovative way to light the houses of about 40 families for the past 12
years. Bhandari tapped water near the village and took it to his watermill
through asmall canal by installing pipes. In 1996, Bhandari set up
awatermill in the village. *
**
*On Diwali that year, the villagers lit up their homes with the power supply
provided by Bhandari. The 60- year- old says: "Earlier villagers used to
travel 2km on foot to grind the grains. After retiring from BRO, Iset up
awatermill, 200 metres from my village. Iwas amazed to see that the mill can
grind 30 kg wheat per hour. This made me believe that Icould generate
electricity through my watermill. I worked as a mechanic and also obtained
knowledge on electricity during my 28 years of service." Bhandari spent
money from his retirement pension. *
